I planted my first container garden this year since I live in an apartment. We have strawberries, banana peppers, jalapenos, bell peppers, tomatoes and romaine lettuces. I don't do well with keep plants alive. So I need some tips. Also if you know a natural remedy for fighting snails and slugs I could use the tips there as well. I am hoping next year to do a much bigger garden than this year. It was done kind of on a whim just to see if I could produce in hopes for next year.

I love having a garden! I live in KY so the frost period isn't over yet, but I'm starting my potted plants now.
-
I've heard people put beer out for slugs, usually in a small dish level with the ground near the plants they are bothering. I have not tried it myself.

This is my first post to Fusion Cash, so here goes. I love gardening and had a garden every year when I lived in a home. I now live in an Apartment but every year I grow my own wheat grass right in my apartment, on the window sills. I dont even need to use soil to grow this, just water. I order the seeds on line, sprout them in my kitchen and manage to have an ongoing supply of this healthy nutrient all Spring and Summer long, for just pennies..

Oh I wanted to plant a garden this year but we will be moving and I didnt want to try and move even containers with plants in them. :( maybe next year.

your garden sounds wonerful. Don't know what to do about the slugs and stuff. I won't have much in my garden this year. A fruit coctail tree some tomatoes and a citris tree(house plant) I am sending for grapes this year. I hope my elderberries bloom this year.
-
Is it hard to care for a citrus tree for the house? I have always wanted to be able to grow stuff inside since I don't always have a yard.

I live in an apartment but have a patio. I am planning on doing a bigger one next year. I am looking into different containers that would fit the amount of space I have which is not very large. I also don't have many windows except in my bedroom and the my sons bedroom. I would love to branch out into raspberries, black berries and blueberries. Also to have a fresh herb garden. I would like for it to be big enough where I could can some items for the fall and winter. It's all little steps. One at a time.

still to cold to plant here,,the only thing i have planted so far is green onions :dog:

I have mine up and going. Corn, beans, green onions, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, green and red bell peppers, cucumbers, spices and my strawberries are starting to ripen. :D

I save seeds from fruits and vegatables I eat. I put an Orange seed in one of my potted plants and it sprouted! Now I have an orange tree. I planted watermelons(my favorite fruit) they take alot of space. Lady bugs are a natural insect killer. Also plant mums around they help repel bugs also. There are some other natural plants that help repel bugs. But I will save that post.$$$$$$$

I haven't tried planing a garden yet, but this year's goal is to build a raised garden bed and get some compost going for the garden. If everything comes together faster than expected, I may do a late planing for a late summer/fall harvest, but really only planning to get everything setup to plant a garden next year.
-
We're also in an apartment, and I haven't planted much yet. Except onions, since I was curious as to what would happen. I plan to add some herbs.

I've heard that a little beer in a lid works great for slugs. Apparently they get drunk and drown. I don't know if they actually drown but it is easy to remove them from the garden in the lids.
I'm in the process of planting a garden. Good luck with yours.

Even though we had a few days in March that got into the low 80s this year, living in MN means that we can't plant a garden until toward the end of April or even May... And it's good that I haven't planted yet since this weekend our daytime highs will be in the 40s and a chance of sn*w (yes in MN it's a 4-letter word). Still I hope to plant a garden later this spring. I tried to have a year-round herb garden on the window sill in my kitchen, but the window faces north so it didn't get much sunlight and the herbs didn't do so well. I have a small room on the south side of the house that is only a couple of steps away from the kitchen... Right now I'm using it as a computer office, but I'm planning to move the computer stuff into my bedroom (last summer I got a great solid wood desk at a garage sale so now I have a place for my computer in my room) and use this "office" as a walk-in pantry. If I do I may try the herb garden in front of that window instead.
I have a friend that is really outdoing us in the garden department.... For her anniversary present she talked her hubby into getting her a green-house! She hopes in a couple of years to be able to have fresh produce year-round.

Wow that sounds like a great garden! Growing strawberries! I hear that is one of the hardest crops to grow. I hope that when I have my own apartment I am as ambitious as you with my gardening. Goodluck with your gardening efforts!!!

I have never planted a garden but I've started to buy some plants to start growing like a chili pepper plant.
-
I still need to weed, expand, and plant mine. Just not enough time to get into it and it has been a little cold.
-
Not me, but maybe the day when we have our own house!!
-
I haven't done it yet :-
-
i let my workers do it for me im too lazy to plant them myself :p

Don't like planting gardens. When growing up we had 2 big gardens and tending and taking care of them is back breaking work. I hated it although I like fresh food.
-
i would plant one but i have no where to plant it.
-
I have started my garden and have a few things in. We don't put our entire garden in until Kentucky Dery Weekend. That is typically when the frost danger is over. This weekend we will be busy working in the garden since it is derby weekend

I have started planting mine. Where i live in n.m. we are in the high desert so i have tomatoes, mild jalapanos, big jim peppers, my artichokes are up and should produce in about a mont then wil get too hot for them, it is just about time for my squash, cucumbers to be planted and then my gourds ( craft projects) Aleady have sime strawerries ready for picking. waiting for plants to be planted in front yard for the butterflies and hummingbirds. Nex year will be another side of house to be planted. one thing at a time on it. Love to grow things.
-
i am doing moveable planter boxes and that way i can have them all year long
-
We have moved into a condo, so I haven't got the yard space to do a garden anymore. I think I might try to do some container tomatoes to see how that goes, I do miss my garden.
-
I dont have room to plant a garden though I do have spider plants that have been doing very well and need to be re potted very soon, So that is what I will be doing my next day off work...
-
I'm starting to work on mine this weekend. Looking forward to lots of organic goodness.

My dad plants a garden every year. He used to have two the one being mostly only corn but after years of having a bad turn out he finally gave up.
