It's awful not being able to sleep.  Have you tried to identify the underlying problem?  Are you stressed, anxious, depressed?  Medication is only a short term solution - I hope you can figure out the real problem so you can finally get the sleep you need.  Good luck.   ;)

I had trouble sleeping too and Melatonin seems to work for me.... also a friend pointed out that looking at computer, iPad, etc. screens can deplete your body's natural Melatonin, so I have started shutting off the computer/iPad etc. about an hour before I want to sleep.

So far so good.  Good luck to you.....not being able to sleep is awful!

Reading helps me to fall asleep. Sometimes watching TV will do it as well.

That happens to me in cycles.  Sometimes I could sleep 24/7 and sometimes I can' hardly sleep at all.  Bi-polar is my problem.  I try really hard not to stress about it cause it just makes it worse.  Have you tried Tylenol PM?  I know it is not natural, but it does help me sometimes.

Make sure your room is cool. Block out all light so that your room is completely dark. Make some habits that do every night that help you go to sleep. For example read before you go to sleep or listen to soft music before you go to sleep.

Have you checked with your pharmacist to see if one of the meds themselves has sleep disturbance as a side effect?

I have trouble sleeping as well and I am on lot of medications too.  I will sometimes stay up for two days before I get any sleep. I have a lot of pain in my back and fibromyalgia and restless leg syndrome.  My doctor gives me sleeping pills but sometimes when I take them I feel groggy in the morning so I don't take them all the time. I have tried the things everyone has mentioned and it doesn't work for me.  I just can't get comfortable when I go to bed because I hurt so much and my pain medication keeps me up sometimes so I don't take them usless I just can't take it anymore.

There was another thread about this that I posted on.  Try Melatonin.  You get it at any drug store/ grocery store.  It naturally occurs in your brain, so it is not some foreign substance you are putting into your body.  It allows my brain to rest, without making me tired the next day.  It took me a while to try it after someone recommended it to me and I am sorry I waited!  Every person I have told about it and tried it said they can't believe how well it works.  Seriously try it.  You won't be sorry!!

taking a warm shower or bath is a good way to relax your body before going to bed. Listening to relaxing music is a good way to.

Exercise during the helps me sleep better at night. Also, if I'm wide awake before bed time, hot cocoa helps me relax.

Poor sleep habits, including a poor sleep environment and poor daytime habits, can be the main causes of sleep problems and low-quality sleep in seniors. In many cases, older adults develop these poor sleep habits over a lifetime but find they create more and more problems as they age. Fortunately, these habits are easy to improve. like: Be engaged, Improve your mood, Exercise regularly. (Exercise releases endorphins that can boost mood and reduce stress, depression, and anxiety.) Expose yourself to sunlight, Limit caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine.

Exercise sometimes helps me. Avoid caffeine and chocolate late in the day. Try some relaxing exercise sometime I cant relax and that makes me restless

??? Don't know anything new beyond what suggestions were already posted.  I have a fair amount of difficulty sleeping myself.  I have sleep apnea and I do sleep with a machine that is supposed to help with that but I have had an allergy problem the last few days and I keep waking myself up with a dry hacking cough.  Hope you figure out a fix for your problem though because it stinks not to be able to sleep well.  :dontknow:
