What are your plans for memorial day weekend?
-
I have to work the whole weekend. Friends usually barbecue Memorial day, but I'll probably miss that this year
-
Nothing much. I don't have to work but I'm thinking of picking up a shift because I'd get time and 1/2.

well that is too bad, maybe they can save you a plate!
-
There's a military cemetary nearby, (not Arlington), that I will go alone to just as I do every year. There's no barbeque, maybe a few families of the honored dead spread out among the silent gravestones. Staying clear of those families out of respect for their privacy, my slow walk down the rows will take me across the grass before the names of the fallen. Each and every name that is passed is read and though I cannot remember them all by dusk, they are acknowledged and honored for their service and their sacrifice. Every last one of them. As the sun sets, I'll turn to leave but, not before standing briefly to attention and presenting arms; a silent salute is offered in deepest respect.

Probably a bbq and the parade with the kids...
-
My daughter gets to march in a parade with her pre-school. I am so excited for her!!
-
Well my dad always have a bbq on Memorial day.
-
"Formerly known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War. Southern ladies organizations and southern school children had decorated Confederate graves during the Civil War, but each region had its own date. By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces."
Nothing, however stops anyone from having a barbeque or, just relaxing on a three-day weekend.

Well nothing too big, but I am not sure what my plans will be as of yet; I might not do anything this year for Memorial Day.
-
Its a family tradition to visit the cemetery and have a cookout afterwards. This give everyone an opportunity to catch up on things and to have a good time doing it.
-
We are going up to the cabin. Can't wait.

Just wanted you to know that reading your post touched my heart this morning, thank you for sharing and thank you for your care and honor. It seems to me that not enough people take the time to do so. ;)
-
Well I plan on having family and friends for a real nice BBQ.
-
Just as I do every year - attend the Indy 500!!
-
We are going down to my husband's grandma's cabin. It is on Lake Gaston on the border of Virginia and North Carolina. We go fishing and swimming and just plain relax......well as much relaxing as you can do with 4 kids.
-
Really no big plans. We used to have a nice get together with BBQ when my parents was alive but now I am on my owned.

This is something I'll keep doing every year, for as long as I live. Lest we forget.

Stay home. we live between 2 lakes and a 3rd is only 50 miles away and there is so much drinking around it gets too where you don't want to go to the lakes and they are very crowed, since it seems like half of Texas is there. I don't even want to put the boat in the water. Later will go to a small town and honor my children when it is quite.
-
Grilling out & setting up the pool to swim!
-
Excited to be going camping and most likely swimming and playing basketball all weekend. And of course eating much more than I should.
-
Definitely work and visit family.
-
My family normally has a cookout on Memorial Day. I just started my job a couple weeks ago and I'm not sure if I'll get the day off or not. If I do have to work that day it won't bother me as much as it used to cause I was out of work for over a year.

My plans for memorial day are to spend time with the family and go swimming, cook out and just have fun. :)
-
My hubby and I are going to go over my mom and dad's house to eat. My dad and brother are going to be in charge of grilling.
-
I will call my great uncle who fought in WWII and check in with him. Other than that, I will try to clean and organize... the never ending task.

Good for you! Even if he's like my grandfather, (who enjoys telling the story about how he once defeated an entire German armored divsion with only his knife ...).

don't have any traditions used to along time ago always went to the beach but that side of the family is pretty much pasted away.
-
We will be traveling to my husband's sister's home in Wisconsin to celebrate her son's high school graduation.
When we return, we will do our own family "Birthday Bash". Over the Memorial Day weekend, we get together to celebrate the birthdays of everyone from January to June.
-
Lounging around the house. Being lazy as usual!
-
Well, I hope this is okay to post, but I think it is really touching to be in that moment and remember all of the people who made us who we are today! THANK YOU TO ALL MILITARY PERSONNEL!! You are appreciated, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
DISCOVERED THE VIDEO HER
FATHER SHOT.
Great video of a Spontaneous Victory Parade in Honolulu in 1945. Take
a look at this video-absolutely fabulous! Notice the cars, jeeps, and
youth. The guys in khaki or gray shirts and black ties are Navy
officers or chiefs. The rest are Army or Marine. How young they all
were to do what they did.
This guy really captured a moment in history! (You can listen to Jimmy
Durante singing "I'll be Seeing You" in the background, too) This is a
super video of a time past - we need to remember and be THANKFUL.
Check out the color fidelity. It's not bad for 1945. Nothing will ever
compare with Kodachrome film.

I plan to take it easy and get some rest, as we will be returning from a trip to Virginia. There's nothing like spending a quiet day at home.
-
As a formerly active-duty member of the Armed Forces; thank you for remembering what the holiday is for. That said, enjoy your weekend, BBQ or doing what you do to take some time away from other concerns.

Just work on Sunday.
-
Thank you, falcon9!!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy your weekend, most of all!!
-
We ended up putting out the little American flags on relatives graves. My grandmother used to do this, but is not able any longer. We then got together at a family members lake house and grilled.
-
We usually go to wherever we are invited. This year, we had no invitation so we stayed home and played on the computer...
