Stephen King joins John Grisham for authors that I enjoy when I go on vacation, need a quick read, and don't want to tax my mind too much. I love F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. I spent all of my college electives on literature classes involving those two authors. Decoding metaphors and similes made the reading so enjoyable. I was kind of bummed that you couldn't make a decent living with a major/bachelor's degree in literature. Voltaire and Shakespeare took it to the next level but make it more difficult to sit down reading for long periods of time.

I have read just about every book Stephen King wrote and I find myself always returning to my old favorite the classic's best of Horor writers Edgar Allan Poe. Come on now, Stephen King isn't even close to Poe! Stephen king's books not only never scared me but aways had at least one grafic sex scene in it. Heck Gerald's game was about a woman handcuffed to the bed thinking about the sex/rape she's had her enitre life. I was one of the few 1million views that watched his (king's) kingdom hospital and even there it focused on either the guys that wanted sex or were having it. I watched it for Andrew McCarthy who was trying to get to the bottom of the haunted hospital and the truly best episode was it's last and that was writen by King's wife. But I guess sex sells which is why he's so big. Me, I'll stay with Poe. Where he lacks in sex he doubles in horor--the way a horror story should.

-
Isaac Asimov and Orson Scott Card. Wow, i'm feeling all old all of a sudden. Especially cause most ppl will have to google these names. Lol.
-
J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter molded me as a child and I can never thank her enough.
I love love Lauren Oliver, Charles Dickens, and J.R.R. Tolkien. My tastes are a bit eclectic.
Also, is everyone listing James Patterson aware that he uses TONS of ghostwriters (small time writers who take jobs writing a portion of a book under another author's name)? His most recent stuff is only partly his original work, which is how he manages to release several novels a year while most authors manage one book every year or two.
