My question is about people who come on the forum and down people such as myself because I believe in god. I have in the past gotten negative responses and feedback from people(non believers) who want to down me. I don't go around with my nose in the air acting like I'm better or higher than anyone else.I don't judge you or make negative remarks at you because I believe in god and you don't. I treat everyone the same. Some people believe in heaven and hell. Some people don't believe in anything and that is by choice. What I'm saying is it is not necessary to be mean and make derogatory remarks toward others just because there opinions or views are different from yours!

I guess that is the unfortunate nature of the internet and especially discussion boards. I have noticed a good deal of what I consider both uncharitable and ignorant statements on both sides of this issue and have been doing my best to stay out of those discussion. I suppose the internet tends to make whoever is writing into the expert. Michael Lewis wrote a really interesting book on that subject in the early 2000's. I think it was titled "next." Whatever one believes, you can expect that someone will be slamming your view on the internet and probably only occasionally will it be in a truly honest or intelligent way.

Several invalid assumptions were contained in your 'complaint'. One of them being that your judgemental opinion isn't "judging". It is. Another assumption being made is that pointing out inconsistancies and irrationality is "derogatory", (even if and when it is accurate - which it is in this instance). Such opposition to faith-based empty religious opinions would not occur had the holder of beliefs which lack evidence not posted publically about them. Just as religious adherents are 'free' to believe any self-deluding nonsense they wish, so too are those who are skeptical of such superstitions 'free' to be skeptical of them. Another false assumption inherent in the skewed faith-based, (belief without evidence), stance is that religious evangelizing isn't "rude", (which is a contrary understatement).

Somebody will always criticize you no matter what. No matter what you believe in or don't believe in. Just hold your head high and don't let it bother you.
-
No one has the right to down you on your beliefs. Look, I am not a believer in God, but that is only my feelings and my opinion. You have the right to believe and feel like you do.
-
Dear lady,
I am sorry that you are being criticized for your beliefs. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness, dignity and respect. It saddens me to see anyone being mistreated for any reason.
-
You have faith in whatever you want to have faith in....Everones not going to agree with you BUT thats on them not you. I for one am proud to be a christian and belive in God.
-
I sooooooooooooooo believe in God and NOBODY will EVER convince me otherwise no matter how hard they try to, simple as that, believe what you believe

I have been amazed by some of the news I have seen lately on TV and the interenet and have been thinking "Tolerance" works in two directions -- so many only want tolerance for their view especially if it seems to go agains the "norm" but not give tolerance for the opposite view. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and kindness, doesn't mean you have to agree or even like them.

OH so RIGHT! Your beliefs are just that - YOURS! Doesn't matter what someone else thinks.

I agree. Everyone has a right to their own beliefs. I am a Christian. I grew up believing in God and my dad is a preacher. Others can claim our beliefs are unfounded, but that is their opinion. I have no reason to think my beliefs are unfounded. God is the center of my life and no one is going to change that for me. Other people can criticize me all they want, but I ignore them. Everyone should be be able to believe as they see fit without feeling judged by those who don't believe the same thing. As for the posts from others on this forum, I don't even click on them. If they are in a thread I have participated in, I scroll right on past.

Sounds like your talking about Falcon9 ... LOL either get used to it, just ignore or delete him.
I am with you I believe in God :D

I feel that each person should be allowed to have their own beliefs. I don't necessarily think I am right and you are wrong but rather we have different ways of understanding and coping with the world around us and as long as no one forces their beliefs upon me I can respect their beliefs. I once heard that just because you believe something false doesn't mean that you can't have benefits (well being, community, etc.. ) from that belief. My point is if it make you feel better to believe something you should do it whether it ends up being true or false as long as it doesn't negatively affect others. It doesn't matter who is right but rather how you live.

The "claim" that religious beliefs are not founded upon substantive evidence is accurately supported by evidence and is therefore not merely an "opinion". Since 'faith' is "a belief without evidence", (as defined by language usage, not by a religion), that's the reason it's unfounded in rationality/evidence. Of course, it's entirely possible to hold unreasoned beliefs as shown by there being extant religious followers.
Other people can criticize me all they want, but I ignore them. As for the posts from others on this forum, I don't even click on them. If they are in a thread I have participated in, I scroll right on past.
It's probably best for blind-faithers to ignore reasoning and cling to illogic instead; that's an easier dodge than critical thinking/using reasoning.
Remember; others have the same option to oppose religious blind faith as religious adherents do to adhere to it.

You should not be criticized for your beliefs, because we all have different beliefs just like anything else.

That doesn't make any sense because the conclusion doesn't follow from the premise. Conversely, an uncriticized belief is an unexamined one - is the non-basis of the belief so weak that it cannot withstand the slightest questioning? Unquestioned belief leads directly to mind-blindness.

Everyone has a right to there own opinion and thoughts.

You will always be criticized for your beliefs and actions and even your lack of beliefs and actions. That is life, fair or not. The important thing is how you choose to handle it.
-
Do you believe the Earth is 6,000 years old? If yes, then you SHOULD be criticized for your beliefs.
-
Its not criticism-Its discussions about truths and non truths. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and if you can't discuss it without being hurt, then you shouldnt talk about it at all. :dontknow:

Thats ok lasycasshmere i too believe in GOD . You have to understand falcon9 he is one that thinks he is the only person that counts and is always right. Just take him with a grain of salt and go on believing. If you argue with him it just leads to longer and wilder thoughts. I love provoking him. ( he will catch my misspelled word and let me have it again. GOD Bless.

That's a false statement and constitutes your misconceptions and an outright gossipy lie.

It isn't your mispellings, it's your misapprehensions and religious self-delusions which "provoke" refutation. Although your beliefs blind you to reason, these oppositions appear on a forum where others whose mind's haven't yet been deafened by the religious mind virus which has zombified believers in specious superstitions.

Who actually believes that?

You're right, if you're not arguing with anyone or trying to assert your beliefs over theirs, then there's no reason they should do so. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people with strong beliefs do look down on those who believe differently, and so a lot of people are instantly bristly when someone's beliefs come up. I guess the question is, why do people know about your beliefs to come down on them? Why would FC be a place you decided to talk about god?

Who actually believes that?
You would be surprised how many people in the united states actually believe this.

I suppose I would be if it were more than twenty or thirty (since I can find that many who believe in anything at all). I am not unfamiliar with the claim you are making as I have seen it oft suggested as a belief of some or a teaching of some, only I have never known anyone that admitted to believing it.

There are significantly more than 20 or 30 creationist fundies who believe that the 'bible' is inerrent, (which includes the specious "6 days = 6,000 years" nonsense). When asked for their views on the origin and development of human beings, between 40% and 50% of adults in the United States say they share the beliefs of young Earth creationism, depending on the poll. The percentage of believers decreases as the level of education increases—only 22% of respondents with postgraduate degrees believed compared with 47% of those with a high school education or less. -- wikipedia excerpt

You are right "ladycasshmere" you should not be judged for what you believe, but sadly to say there are people out there who have an opinion and it is the only one that counts. There are people who believe that if you don't believe the way they do then you are nothing. My point is when you are criticized and it will happen again, even though it may be hurtful just let it go. People are cruel and judgmental and as time passes it gets worse. You sound like you may be young. If that is so you have a long road ahead if you let people bother you.

Oddly, your remarks are a judgemental opinion.

This apparently includes xtians being as jugdemental as non-xtians. Everyone who makes decisions, judges.
