action figure collecting is a beloved tradition for many people. Yes some think they are dolls and childs play, but others know better. And others are wise enough to see them as an investment. What do you think?
-
I have a few of them, Emmitt Smith, Ken Griffey Jr. and Jeff Gordon! I like the Mcfarlane action figures.
-
I don't collect them but there are many people that do. It can be rewarding especially if you have action figures from the years past like star wars action figures.
-
I guess it's okay for investment, but some people get really weird with it and take it overboard.

If I still had my TMNT toys from when I was a kid, some of them probably would be worth a lot of money.
-
I had just about every single original hasbro WWF figure when I was a kid. Of course I played with them, but even so if I had them today it would be a goldmine.

I collected some when I was a kid. Have a box of various Star Wars action figures. Unfortunately I wasn't schooled in the art of collecting so none of them are inside their original packaging, but I still have the package backs. I also have several cards from Empire and Jedi, a few from the ANH - but don't have a complete set of any of them. Sometime I think I may want to try to pick up the few I'm missing from my Jedi collection just to have the full set. ;D

I would like to but it just seems like they just take up too much space once you get going.

It all depends on what you collect. If you use logic and reasoning in investing you should always win more often than you loose. Why are old baseball cards highly collectible? Because back then kids bought them for the bubble gum and threw away the cards. Only the occasional kid would collect them and even then massive amounts where thrown away. But now people want these cards and there are very few of them even though a lot where produced. Newer baseball cards are printed in huge amounts and because old ones are valuable they are collecting the new ones thinking they will sell for more in the future. Maybe they will be hundreds of years from now, and only the cards kept in hard plastic under optimum conditions survived. But because so many are collecting now, they won't be worth much in the near future.
On the other hand beanie babies became a big bust. Why? People hoarding huge amounts of them thinking they where going to be worth some. The reprieved future value's where inflated because of "price guides" and although they where hot commodities at the time it was ONLY because of the inflated reprieved value. Much the same cam of the tulip. Anyone buying anything because of some preconceived notion that this "collectors edition" of an item will be worth something is fooling themselves. Items with words like "collectible" on them or items seen as possible collectible for future investment are likely to be hoarded and then sold in massive amounts at a later time (thus their value will go down). The only collectible toys that should be collected are those that are produced in extremely limited amounts. However toys that are seen as junk could very well be worth something if the condition is kept top notch. Because most of these toys will be played with and eventually thrown away. I remember seeing an old stretch toy go for thousands because it was shrink wrapped in hard plastic and kept it optimum temperatures (thus it didn't melt).
There isn't a 100% surefire way of knowing what will be highly collectible, but a little bit of reasoning can help increase your chances. Timing is key with investing into anything.

I had a starwars set, but I finally sold it at a garage sale, i got more out of it, seeing a happy child, then watching it set around and collect dust

I use to have those Marvel action figures when I was younger, but I have since given them away. All I have now are anime/manga PVC figurines, but I only have a handful of them. However, a number of them are pricey.

It can be interesting hobby for people but very costly. So do it wisely if you do collect them.

I've collected Star Wars action figures for years.I recently have built up my super hero action figure collection as well.

I have some Mcfarlane spawn and some comic figures. But i dont think values are what you think. Trying to get rid of mine and they dont sell.

The only Action figures I have are from 1965 (I had to Google to find that out! LOL)
I have Jane and Johnny West dolls by Marxx.
Google showed me they can be purchased for around $20. Accessories can be purchased piece by piece.
Mine are NOT an investment. They are golden memories from my childhood.....PRICELESS!
