Hi,
Iknow how dificult it is to lose weight. I used to have a size dress 10 when I came to live in the USA. But now, there is no way to go bellow a size 16. I feel frustrated many times but I keep hoping it will lose weight one day. Keep trying and hang in there. You will lose the weight with a good diet and exercises.

Look up Leptin Resistance.  It's possible that could be a contributing factor.

I can definitely understand how you may feel. I'm a mother of six, and two years after I gave birth to my sixth child I decided that I needed to take a contraceptive. After a year of taking birth control I went from weighing 132lbs to 185lbs. Loosing weight isn't easy. I have gotten down to 160 lbs by simply changing my eating habits. No fried foods, or sodas. I drink flavored water to help my cravings. Many of us have food addictions that we don't know about. Eating several small meals a day helps your metabolism. You have to incorporate some form of exercise into your daily routine. The more you exercise, the more calories you will burn. The less calories that you take in throughout the day the better your chances are of loosing weight. I have traded in many of my bad eating habits for healthier choices. It's working. YOU CAN DO IT.

I started taking acai berry with a colon cleanse supplement and I started losing weight. Its an all natural supplement that gives you energy. You can find it at walgreens, cvs pharmacy and other health food stores. My problem with losing weight was I was always hungry and got tired alot. I changed my eating habits and started doing turbo fire workout. It is fun. It combines dance and cardio. I enjoy it so much I forget I'm working out. I was 205 when I started and so far I lost 15 lbs. I try to eat at least two veggies a day mainly fresh not the can stuff and lean meat especially ground turkey. Dont get me wrong I still give into a craving every once in awhile but in moderation. I pick a day out the week where I eat what I want but watch portion control. Oh and drink alot of water. It is good for flushing out alot of toxins in the body. Hope this helps you on your journey.

I weighed 160 and I lost 20 pounds earlier this year. I want to lose another 20, so I will do my diet again. This is what I did.

Well, I didn't follow a known diet or meal plan. I just combined all the healthy eating habits I could. Like I ate much smaller portions, I ate more frequently throughout the day (some call it "picking"), I ate healthier food items in general and I was really strict with making sure most everything I ate was: low calories, low carbs, low fat, low sodium, low or no sugar, etc. It was hard reading the labels so much and feeling like I was missing out on the good stuff. But after a week, I was used to it and it was easy to stick with. I didn't really exercise, just an occasional walk or playing active video games on Kinect or Wii. But I did treat myself to something I wanted every few days without it messing up my progress. It seems simple and cliche but it really worked. I lost the weight in about two months.

Everyone is different.  My son who is 32 just lost 30 pounds in 3 months with the Palio Diet and exercise routine. I myself have a hard time to lose the weight. I eat healthy now and need to start an exercise routine myself.  I think exercise is important.

I agree exercise is a key in loosing weight. I have been trying to lose weight myself it is slow coming off but I am loosing it! They always say it is better to lose slowly anyways. I try to drink alot of water and really watch my salt intake because I know that is alot of my problem. I also try to eat fresh salads more often. Good luck with the weight loss!

1 - Eat healthy, well balanced food.
2 - Eat(small portions)every 2 (waking)hours.( If you go many hours between eating your body senses it is starving and stores all available food as fat).
3 - Don't use a weigh scale.  Go by how you see yourself in a mirror and use a measuring tape to see your progress.
4 - exercise in moderation(walking mainly).

I know it's hard to lose weight. You just have to control what you eat and do lots of exercise.

Diet and exercise. There's no quick fix. No equipment or special routine will work without your dedication. My largest was 210 lbs. I changed my diet alone and lost weight. I substituted white rice for brown and white bread for whole wheat. I added some more veggies and I did lose weight. I'm not where I want to be as far as appearance but that requires exercise which I kind of start and stop and start and stop.

Change your diet first (more veggies and whole grains) and stick with it and you'll see a difference. Work 10 minutes of exercise into your day just to get used to it and gradually add more time every so often.

It has to be a lifestyle change. There's no quick fix.

I like the site loseit. They have a calorie counting app or you can use the website many foods you eat everyday, even fast food are listed in the database so you don't have to do a lot of researching every time you eat. I was amazed just how many calories were in some foods and how huge my portions were. It was a great start for getting on track for me since it made me have a better idea of the nutritional and caloric content of food. I have also been swimming and taking martial arts. It helps to be active and do activities that you like so you are better able to stick with it. Good luck.

Losing weight is mainly a matter of reducing calories! And you do not have to exercise. So why are there so many opinions and so many diets. Moderation helps and exercise burns calories, adds to a healthy lifestyle. The cardio I do every day, is done mainly for my brain and heart. Just losing weight with no exercise will mean lose of muscle tissue. When my mother wanted to lose weight with no exercise, just her gardening; I suggested, chair squats, wall pushups and some other chair exercises, that she could do while watching television. Many overweight people want to lose fat, and improve their appearance. Moderation is needed to change lifestyles a little. Most people want a quick fix. They ate incorrectly for six months put on 24 pounds and want to take it off in six days or six weeks. Even six weeks will take some work. Moderation also takes in to consideration that our bodies are different. Some have fast or slow metabolism (although the differences are very slight, a big deal is made of it) or other differences. Not saying much about our mental state and motivation. That is why some people need support groups like Weight Watchers or a gym like Curves.

So how do we reduce the calories, by using many of the aforementioned ideas. One of my favorites, is drink water. It is easier to drink a glass of water then run a mile to burn the calories of a can of soda water. A mentor of mine said we all know what to do. Eat fresh fruit, vegetables and lean protein. ( if you are a VEGAN or vegetarian, correct food combinations for protein) My food journal shows I eat a lot of unhealthy snacks. A good friend of mine, that I used to work out with, has been eating six meals a day since high school. He is a bodybuilder and his waist size and body fat is important to him. And having food in his body keeps his blood sugar at a level; which keeps him from unhealthy snacking. "Sugar" in some form is in much of our processed foods today. (not going to mention all the "salt") As a healthy vegetarian, I could not keep weigh on unless I lifted weights. At that time I ate like a pig, but all those water based vegetables, kept the weight off. (I was watching a tv show that said most people only eat beans once a month, and many get eat few healthy grains.) So remember most people don't lose the weight because they don't take it one day at a time, just the way it went on. Good Luck!

I've lost weight by tracking the calories I eat and what I burn.  I still eat whatever I want but more in moderation. I still have soda and snack cakes all the time yet I've lost 40 pounds since March because I make sure I track it and make it fit in with my food for the day

Many times I have tried to lose weight but it has been so hard I wish this weight would just fall off. Im 5 5 and i weight 170 im tired of this weight help.  :sad1:

I'm 5'4, and in May of 2009 I weighed 172 pounds.
By May of 2010 I was down to 111 pounds.
I found that weight to low, so I healthfully gained until I reached a weight (135) that worked for me.

I can only tell you what worked for me:
#1.  I joined a free online food journal site/community that believes in Balanced Nutrition. Now, they also have a mobile food journal system.
#2.  Get a digital food scale and use it.
#3.  Switch to Diet sodas, calorie free sodas, or calorie free waters, and fat free milk.
#4.  Switch to 100% whole grains in any way you can; cereals, breads, pastas. Remember FIBER is your friend. (*Goal: 2 grams dietary fiber for every 90 calories in a serving).
#5.  Reduce your High Fructose Corn Syrup intake as much as you can. It's in a lot of stuff, but it is do-able.
#6.  Check out alternative sweeteners. I personally like Stevia based sweeteners. Which sweetener is something you'll have to decide.
#7.  Do not starve yourself! Snack on fruits/vegetables, ice cream, chips etc. Look for 100 cal snacks, & only eat 1 serving.
#6.  Go to Library, check out any of these books: "Weight Watcher's All Time Favorites," "Weight Watcher's New Complete Cookbook," "The            Complete Idiot's Guide to Glycemic Index Weight Loss," "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Low-Carb Meals," "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Terrific Diabetic Meals," and any "Hungry Girl" recipe book you like. Find recipes that work for your tastes.

It's not a diet per say, but retraining yourself in balanced nutrition.
I hope this helps you get started.

I am sure you are doing all the usual stuff, watching what you eat, thinking thin, counting calories, but I found that the best way was walking, walking faster than a stroll and for at least a half an hour a day.  Some ways are easy. take the stairs, park at the back of the parking lot, get a dog.

Be sure to burn more calories than you take in.  Avoid junk food.  Things like carrots, celery and broccoli are filling and basically have no calories.  Apples are great for a sweet tooth.

I'm a mother of 6 too.  Usually I'm able to snap back to a size 7 without effort in less than 2 weeks but after my last one I got down to a size 10 and stayed there. I started trying to lose weight when my youngest son was 3 and it took me 2 years to do it.  I've lost 25 pounds this year, I lost 17 last year and gained it all back, which I'm determined not to do this time.  I have a new found love for working out and have just started drinking more water but counting calories is what really helps me to lose.  I'm currently a size 7, I only have 10 more pounds to go til I get to my desired weight, which I aim to achieve b/f the new year.  Good luck!

These are some really good tips! I especially like #7. I read somewhere though that diet sodas are actually more harmful than regular sodas, IDK how true that is b/c there's so much conflicting info about food out there. I kicked soda in 2009 and drink Sam's Club flavored water whenever I need some acid, which is rare.  I think the main thing is to count calories.  When I first started doing so I was amazed at how I would THINK I was eating healthy and really wasn't, like salad dressing for example, with the amount of salad dressing I put on my salads, which really isn't too much, I could've eaten a juicy burger for the same amount of calories.  Lots of people count carbs and fiber and avoid certain foods, I eat whatever I want and try to keep my daily intake under 1,000 calories a day.

"There is no quick fix"- CORRECT!!! That's why I don't do diets and decided not to cut certain things out of my diet that I know I will eventually eat.  Lifestyle changes is what keeps the weight off.  I eat whatever I want and try to keep my calorie intake under 1,000 calories per day.

Eat sensibly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a sensible healthy breakfast every day. Do Not overeat! Watch those calories! Eat lunch a small one. Eat dinner!  Don't eat less than 1500 calories a day. Eat more fruit and vegetables and take some kind a mega multiple vitamin and minerals and exercise. Snack on fruit or veggies when you get hungry. Get a jumprope and jump 100 times in the morning and 100 times at night. Good luck!

In addition to a healthy diet (low fat and high fiber) and exercise (at least 30 minutes for at least 5 days per week) you should also take fiber and drink detox tea to keep yourself regular and clear out waste from your system. An unhealthy system can make it more difficult to lose weight from what I've heard. When I lost weight I was also taking two tablespoons of psyllium husk fiber (similar to metamucil, but not metamucil.) in some water every day, with plenty of water and drinking detox tea several times per week. Occasional fasting and detox helps to clear your system too. My aunt told me you should take half a grapefruit, half an apple, and half a lemon with the skin on (beware it is very bitter) and chop it up in a food processor (to make sure the pieces are small enough to blend), then blend it with water in a blender to make it a juice. Do it in the morning on an empty stomach and drink some water thruout the day with it. It should help to detox your system. Do it from time to time to keep your system clear and free of the waste that builds up.

Also beware of most paid systems that propose to help you detox your system. Only one called Colonix has had any real successful reviews (drnatura.com) and it's up to the person as to whether they would try it or not.

Let me know if this helps  :)

Try cutting back on sweets and meats, eat more veggies and exercise. A detox is great to start out. Eat less amounts of food but do not skip any meals, drink plenty of water all day long.  :peace:

Everyone has to do what works for them. Don't go on a diet!! Just make healthy lifestyle changes.
When you make a meal try to focus on veggies and fruit being your main dish and the meat, potatoes, and rice being your side dishes. Fill your plate with a lot of veggies and add a little of the things that make us fat.
In the morning try to eat things like yogurt and fresh fruit or oatmeal with raisins and apples with a slice of whole grain toast. Stay away from bagels..they are high in carbs. Fruit smoothies are a great way to get energy too. I just buy my favorite frozen fruit (a cherry blend) and then add things like bananas, fresh pineapple, granola, and things you like. My family loves my smoothies. Adding a little honey to make it taste better is great too.
Another good thing to do is make a pitcher of water and add some grapefruit slices, orange slices, and some fresh mint. Drink this all day long. (as much as you can) and it will help burn fat.
When exercising... don't do things you are going to hate or not look forward to. Don't make it something you feel you HAVE to do. Make it something you WANT to do. Put on your favorite music and dance or if you have an ipod or portable music device...walk around the block while listening to something up beat. When watching tv, or waiting for something to load on the computer do some squats or jumping jacks. Always remember that every little bit counts. Even if you do 10 squats it has made a difference.
Don't feel like you can't have an occasional sweat or treat. When you do just make it a small portion and eat it as slow as you can paying close attention to the textures and tastes. Make sure that you make it last long enough for your brain to kick in and acknowledge that you got a treat! LOL this may sound weird but the main thing that makes us fat is over eating. It takes our brains about 10 min to realize that we are full. If we rush through what we are eating we feel like we need more or were cheated out of having what we want.
Most important!!! Try not to stress about things. Stress makes us fat and makes us want to eat more. Find something that will help you to feel content in your life. Love, family, meditations, prayers, puppies. What ever makes you happy that is healthy for you.

Im 5'2 and weight 152 I ws 185 three months ago. I dont know how I did did it, It was very hard. But I drank two 8 ounces of water everytime I eat a meal it can be a snack too. Another inportant tip is to look on the container before you eat to see the measurements of the calories. If you dont like to go to the gym then just take a walk before it gets dark outside, or you can dance to three full songs( I was doing that for a month now I head to the gym every night around 7 pm. good Luck!!!!

You are correct about the need to remove waste from your system. When you remove all the old junk from your body it leaves you feeling purified and makes you think twice about what you put in your mouth. I usually do an enema but at least twice a year I do body gold colon cleanser.  I've always heard about the great reviews from dr natura but have yet to try it.

In addition to a healthy diet (low fat and high fiber) and exercise (at least 30 minutes for at least 5 days per week) you should also take fiber and drink detox tea to keep yourself regular and clear out waste from your system. I have had weight issues since I got sick. A year ago I was told that I have an underactive thyroid and once they stabilize it I will lose weight. They still havent stabilized it and I still havent lossed any weight.

Consult with your nurse/doctor. Watch your diet very carefully, drink plenty of water and walk-and-walk every single day to exercise and burn some extra calories.

I agree with what people before me have said...
It's a lifestyle change.

I started off with counting my calories religiously. I have 2 apps to track them on, and I try and exercise often (though with work and school, both full time, I don't have as much time to work out as I'd like). Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator, park further away from your destination...it all adds up.
Don't cut out treats all together...make sure to give yourself a SMALL treat every so often so you don't crave it so much, and look up healthy alternatives to your favorite junk foods.
My husband and I are making cheeseburgers tonight with turkey meat and low fat mozzarella cheese. Much less fat and calories than going to McDonalds, and I think it's tastier too!

I go to online web sites that let me know what is overweight and what is obese for my gender and height. It will also calculate your BMI. I eat things like pickles which have no calories to help supress me apitite. I also soak cucumbers in white wine or apple cider viniger. The viniger has no calories and a large cucumber has around 15 calories. Your able to eat a  lot this way with very few calories. I avoid food shows and stock up on things that I like, but don't love unless its good for me. Avoid carbohydrates and eat lean meats like fish. I lost 100 pounds after my daughter Ruby was born and now working on losing my baby Alicia's baby weight.

Me too!  Im going to try fruits and vegatables mostly and exercise.  There is no magic pills or potions you could use.  It's good old fashion healthy eating and exercising.  We just have to do it and stay consistant with it and it will come off.  I lost 8 pound so far doing it this way.  I don't believe it luck so I'll say "Good success!"

I am trying to lose weight too, good luck to you. I just ordered some exercise equipment with videos to do so i hope that will help kick start things and now that I start a new job where I'll be sitting all day :/ I need to stay active. i will also be able to bring my own food so that should keep me on better track too. Regular sleep hours and schedule should help too. A good tip is to start small with one small change at a time and stick with it

Hi,
I am doing weight watchers and I have lost 29 pounds. ;D  I have a long way to go but maybe that will help you!!

I do weight watchers as well and have lost 25 Lbs . It has been a rough summer- But I do not want to start
gaining.

Weight loss is work. One trick that worked for me is not to focus on what you cannot eat but what you can eat. It is easy said than done. If you go
on line you can find some awesome lowfat recipes. Eat a variety of food so you do not become bored.  I can not look at Chick fil a grilled chicken salad. I ate it a few too many times for lunch!

I've always been curious about weight watchers, is the program mostly staying under a certain amount of calorie intake per day?  I went onto the site a year or two ago and it told me I should be eating no more than 1200 calories per day.  I see certain foods that have weight waters points on them (like the progresso potato and bacon soup that I LOVE) so maybe it goes by points rather than calories (?)

I think first try not to stress out about it, I notice when I do that I lose less weight. as for really losing it just just cut your calories down and work out that what worked out the best for me.

my wife and i have done the weight watchers point system, and that worked really well. The main thing is to eat less and move more--pretty simple, but easier said than done!!!

I kinda figured it was something like that.  I was looking at a Medifast commercial the other day where they say they'll ship your food and as long as you stick to a menu you'll lose weight.  I think the bottom line behind all of these weight loss programs is just what you said- eat less (and move more).  I try to eat under a certain amount of calories per day. I went over that limit horribly last night so I'm about to work off the excess calories times 2.  Like I was telling a friend yesterday that's been trying to lose weight for years, as long as you do SOMETHING (different) and keep at it you'll eventually see progress.

Well we have started counting our calories again.  We don't stop ourselves from eating anything we just count how much we eat we go by portions.  You can go online and get calories for everything.  So far I have lost 10 lb in 14 days and trust me I still have long way to go.  We also started walking more.  Its easier if you have a buddy to walk with and if they want to lose weight with you also.  back before my husbands parents got sick we were using this system and my hubby lost 92 lbs and I pulled off 75 in about 6 months.  I kept off all but 5 lbs of what I lost.  You can d o it just make up your mind that your tired of living this way and start the fight we have started out our calorie count at 2,000 and so far we have never made it to that amount yet. Closes I been to it was 1797 total .  We have started eating more fruit and mostly eat it at night for dinner and maybe a little something else.

One of the things I've been doing is trying to change my life style rather than having a diet. A diet is something that most people consider temporary and hard to live with. A lifestyle is something that you can live with even after you've lost the weight. I don't really like processed meat, so I through that out the window. I decided to try alternatives to milk such as coconut milk and almond milk. I lost weight and my joints don't hurt as much.

I guess what I am saying is to find out which foods that are healthy is right for you, make sure to have a variety so you don't get tired of them, and have moderation. I don't think that sticking to a completely meat free diet is right for me, but having it rarely is. That might not work for you, you might be better off with more frequent servings of lean meat than is right for me.

I also go on walks. Not as exercise, but as an opportunity to de-stress, use my camera to catch some good pics to share with my friends/family, etc. I go for about an hour. Eventually, I found out that I was covering about 3 miles during that time. I don't put myself on a guilt trip for missing my walks.

First find out what your BMI (Body Mass Index) is and how many calories you can consume each day and lose weight. Then just plan healthy, small meals around that and do a little walking, dancing or any activity you enjoy doing.  This is working for me.  I am 5'1" and weighed 164 (after a week I am now 159 without exercising at all)

It is hard to lose weight!  The main thing is exercise....along with eating healthy.  I cut out alot of carbs....I only eat whole wheat...and I also cut out sugar....That long with at least 30 minutes of exercise 4 times a week will do the trick!!!  After a while all of this becomes a lifestyle and not like a diet plan!
