Today was rearended pretty badly by a woman who was texting while driving now I have the inconvenience of not having a car for a couple days and dealing with insurance company's for the next week! I wonder if it was worth her text grrr

There are a lot of distracted drivers out there. I have been hit twice while riding in the local bus. Both cases were the automobile driver's fault.

I had several instances where I was almost involved in a head on collision with a driver who was talking on her cell phone, while turning into a Home Depot. She lost control
of her SUV and nearly hit me head on. If I had not stopped and backed up it would have been a very serious accident. Then on top of it all, she backed up and turned her SUV, while still talking on her cell phone. Then while backing up she nearly hit a bicyclist behind her. Unbelievable. And I really hate to say it, but the police are totally ineffective these days
in stopping these people.

I hope you are ok. I know what you mean. My husband crashed 2 months ago.... the day o our wedding.The female in the other car was too busy texting . Then she has the nerve to say," its ok, Its only a scratch"... NO her car was stuck to our truck. she reused to show us her insurance. (that told us everything) good thing a cop was a couple o cars behind us and saw her on the one. WE were OK, our wedding was awesome (even thought it started a bit late) and we know have a better looking truck jeje. BUT STUPID PEOPLE THAT TEXT/DRIVE.

Man, I know. If I absolutely have to text someone while driving, I wait till a red light stops me and then I text it then. How hard is it to wait? Or, you know, call the person they so desperately need to talk to. Not that calling and driving is all that safe, but it's safer than texting.

Glad you are safe first thing. Second thing is people don't think anything will happen to them. Phone do not need to be out when driving. People don't realize how you can kill someone by just texting or talking on a phone, anything that is a hindrance to keeping your eyes on the road should be outlawed. They need to do something about this.

Jeez I'm sorry :( My dad's been in 2 accidents in the past year. He's a courier for a hospital so he constantly sees idiots on the road. I never understood why people text while driving.

yup I agree, they think they can completely focus but that is not true.

We have the same problem here..Too many people texting while driving or having music so loud their cars vibrate.. I have no idea how they could hear a fire truck even with that music so loud.

I see so many just passing my house texting.Naturally not watching where they are going.Our road is off the main road,but we they can still wreck.They are all over the road.Instead of saying whether a person was wearing a seat belt or alcohol involved,they should say if their phone was nearby and check to see what time the last call or text was done.

I drive 55 miles to work each way and I see so many people texting or on the phone, it is out of control. I have seen people crash into dividers and driven off the road, so far they have not hit me.

That's the main reason why I dont text and drive and talk and drive. People still dont realize that they are putting other people lives at stake. Im so sorry to hear about the accident. I'm glad you didnt get hurt. I feel your pain. It's very inconvenient to loose your vehicle for a couple of days for some one else's mishandle. People please stop texting talking and driving. It's not just you on the road.

And some drivers are still talking on their cell phones while driving too. Until they get into a major accident or kill someone, then they'll probably learn their lesson which is too late.

We see it all the time where we live too. They just don't get, that they are putting other lives besides their own in harms way with texting. If it is darn important to get a hold of someone, pull over and do it. I am beginning to think it is almost as bad as drinking and driving. As usual the good drivers have to not only look out for themselves but the stupid drivers that don't have a care in the world except for what they want to do.

Man, the future is so weird. Texting is becoming the new drunk driving. Who knew technology would make people worse drivers.

I know right when I go out with my mom I always see people talking on da phone and I really hate it :BangHead: a text or a call can wait its not like it da end of the world geez please people stop texting or talking while u drive!!!! Is a text or a call worth it or is someone life worth it it ur call people a text or a call can wait it not worth it a life is worth it!!!! So one more time people stop texting while u driving.

Insurance should have to pay some kind on inconvienence (misspelled) compensation to the victim of someone stuck on stupid.

i see lots of people holding the phones talking on them and I am sure they are texting too. If I ever do it it's while I am at a red light and not moving. I don't trust other people enough to take my eyes off the road.

i am with you there, i said before my car was hit by some one talking on her cell phone, had the nerve to ask me if i pulled out in front of her, ugh i was sitting in the road waiting to turn left there was an 18 wheeler coming so i was waiting on it. she came up behind me 55 miles an hour just boom she went, she didnt even pull to the right to get off the road, she went between me and the 18 wheeler, thank god the truck driver stopped told the cops what happened, who would believe somebody was stupid enough to go between me and a truck instead of turning right off the road.

I never even thought about comparing texting to drunk driving but its so true! when your drunk your capability is compromised and when your reading a text your totally not looking at the road even if it is just a few seconds if your on the freeway doing 80 those few seconds can change your life or end it scary thought.

yes unfortuenly this is a big problem these days such a shame how many accidents are caused by this i just think as society we have to learn about giving out brain a break i am not excusing this behavior but ppl are so busy so they think they can multi task or maybe an important text i just think we need to change

Some people shouldn't even be driving but I don't think that the cellular phone is completely to blame. If they are distracted by a conversation than they shouldn't be allowed to have any devices in the car that play music and passengers shouldn't be allowed in the car. Should people have their hair taken away because they are combing/brushing/curling it while driving? Make-up abolished because people apply it while driving? These are some extreme circumstances, and I am sorry that you were put out by an inconsiderate driver, but taking away cellular phones isn't the answer.

Why do people have to text all the time away? Can't they talk to the people whom they are around at the moment. Gee maybe they might make some knew friends.

I think texting should be outlawed and a stiff fine for doing it. I don't know how you can be focused on your driving, when your eyes are searching out the letters. WoW! I guess she couldn't. Sorry for your misfortune!

Omg I seen a reck today like the man was driving texting and didn't pay attention to the light and ran it and hit this old lady walking !!!!!

It takes me so long to text that I could get from New York City to Pittsburgh while I was texting one message which is why I don't do it.

:sad1: So sorry to hear that happened to you. I will be honest I can't stand people who text or talk on the phone while they drive, it is tempting to do at times I will admit but I see people do stupid things all the time even while talking on their cell. Their were a lot of tv ads a while back about people who had loved ones die as a result of texting or reading texts but doesn't stop people apparently. Hope this ordeal is over for you soon.

I agree. People don't value their lives. I see people texting and driving everyday. I have almost been hit by a person attempting to use their phone and make a sharp turn at the same time. I really wish that people would consider the lives of other more often when they are on the road.

So sorry to hear that! Hope everything works out for you. I totally agree....texting while driving is like both suicide and murder. Not only can you kill yourself but you can kill someone else. I think the only way to stop texting while driving is to impose heavier fines. Maybe something like some jail time combined with heavy fines and/or community service. Just a thought.

Something needs to be done about that. It's gotten out of hand. A few years ago here, a teenager was texting and caused a crash that killed a prominent couple. The girl lost one of her arms. Not sure of the outcome, but that is not right!!!

Seriously! People need to realize all the issues that texting while driving could cause.. I haven't had any personal experience with texting drivers, but I've heard too many stories about them and the lives they've ruined. One of my good friends often does it, and I'm constantly reminding her to stop.

I remember the old days where it was drinking and driving people worried about. Now days people eat, talk on phone, text, and read books while driving. It is just rediculious. People who text and drive should spend time in jail. My mom got in a wreck when texting was just becomming popular. The man got out of the vehicle and his girlfreind started yelling at my mom that my mom should have been more aware that he was texting and driving. She was like ya he texts and drives, but its your fualt for not noticing. Even though hes the one that hit her. She was yelling in my moms face and everything. I cant beleive the people of today. It all stems back to disipline and concern for others. People talk about spanking being a abusive, but its really not as long as it is done in a way that does not cause harm. IF these people where raised right these things wouldn't happen so often. Now days no one wants to take responsibility and their problems are always labeled as anyone else's fault.

I'm sick of drivers like this but unfortunately, doesn't matter if I'm sick of it or not driving has become more dangerous! I can't make everyone stop being so stupid but I do nag and insist with my kids and others if I have the chance-- It goes something like this: "PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN AND DRIVE"! I also share news when I find out about someone who has either suffered loss from this.

In a perfect world, I would like phone companies or car manufacturers to come up with a device, that car manufactures will bolt, lock an install inside your car, that you can't have access to or tamper with, and will emit some sort of code or signal, that can only be decipher by a specific phone number and will disable outgoing texting. It should be required by law to install the device when you purchase your vehicle, or when you purchase your phone. Well located sensors as well as every street light will scan vehicles as they pass through and detect if a vehicle does not have such device, and will dial authorities and take pictures so the law can be enforced. The fine should be so big and the car impounded that you wouldn't like to text while driving again. There are many loopholes and workarounds, and it sounds ludacris, I know, but it's just food for thought. Who knows, maybe in 2070 it could be implemented :wave:

I can't stand seeing idiots on the cellphone and/or texting while driving.

Sorry that happened to you. :( It's unfortunate that so many mindless people are roaming this world. People need to learn how to put away the mobile once in a while.

People texting while driving is nothing new here in washington because I see it all the time. I even see people drive right through a stop sign and not bother to stop. None of them was texting when they did it. Sometimes, I feel like I'm the only person who follow the rules or the law of the road.

I don't get it... if you used an iPhone 4s or 5, why not used Siri to read your messages and reply if you need to. Don't understand why you have to used that small keyboard and txt while driving.

Everyday I am behind someone who is texting or talking while driving. Sick of it!!!!!!

Some companies will let you rent a car. I too have been almost in wrecks because of ppeople texting and driving I also hate it when they dont know when its their turn to go .
