Title: Tattoo or no tattoo
Post by: jtrask on November 20, 2012, 08:06:19 pm
Do you have a tattoo or no tattoo and if you have one what is it?  I don't have one myself and have no plans to.  :female:

I don't have any, either, and like you, won't!  My oldest son and daughter-in-law both do, some of which he's gotten since in the military.  However, my other 2 kids don't want them nor like them.

As an Artist, I can appreciate them as a form of art and expression but I cannot get one.. never. I personally am "the body is a temple" type but they are alright.

I have one that I got when I was 18. Just a little shooting star on the inside of my wrist. I've thought about getting another one but I don't know of what. Took me over a year just to be sure I'd be happy with the star for the rest of my life.

My dad is a saved Christian and has around 40 tatoos. You would never know it though. He hides it under long sleve shirts. He says he get them because he likes them not because he wants anyone to see them. I personally do not know if they are right or not. Because of that I have not gotten one. Not saying it is wrong, but honestly this is one of those questions that I don't know. Of course you shouldn't get a trashy tatoo.

I personally don't have any but find them intriguing.  I don't think I could put something on my body that would be there forever.  A few of my friends decided to get them and they look fine so I don't see any issue with them.  I think some of it depends on why you're getting it and who for.  So many times people do things for others, and then hate it because they didn't really want it in the first place, but wanted to make the other person happy.

If it makes you happy and isn't hurting anyone, I don't see why it can't be done.

My husband and I have matching tattoos, our wedding bands. We have the Irish Claddagh wedding band tattooed. It's my only one currently, but I plan on getting something done for my son in the near future.

Personally yes I like tattoo's, have a small cat licking paw outline near my left shoulder blade. Got it on my honeymoon.
Always been enamored with cat's, it's even a nickname a few friends call me.

Some tattoos are very nicely done. But, I see the problems my son has with h is in working in several places.  Some buildings he cannot work in due to tattoss.  He is now in the process of getting them removed.

I don't have any tattoo's  I don't want to put poision in my body like that besides it hurts and I have enough pain without adding to it to scar up my body.  My husband donesn't have any either his reason is different he doesn't like needles not even if the doctor says it will help me get over his problem at the time.  Like his broncitis they usually like to give you a shot of steroids.  My sister and brother have them thow.  My sisters is of her love for her second husband, and when she got it done she told him the only was she will get another is if her husband screws up and than she sa id she would put in memory of and the tattoo guy said " and I will do that one for free".  I would not get a tattoo and put a mans name there what if it doesn't last (like my sister) you are stuck with it.

No tattoos for me.  I like the looks of many floral ones, but then I stop and think, "how will this look on me when I am 80?"  That's when I buy a kid's temp tattoo, LOL!

I have four tattoos. I waited until I was 28 years old, and then I decided to get 4 tattoos at the same time. I liked them at first, but now I regret getting them. I wish that I could take back my actions. Unfortunately I can't.

I thought about getting at least 2 tattoos, one to remember my dad because he past away when I was a kid. The other one would be some kind of a wolf tattoo since I like wolves. Then again, I think they are too expensive and they may not look very good over the years. So, I plan to stay away from getting myself a tattoo.

I have 2 - 1 between my shoulder blades of the symbol of the Cherokee nation (I am only 1/4 Cherokee, but the more I learn about this part of my cultural background, the more I find I identify with Cherokee values. Maybe I should also note that as a mutt, I'm not more than a 1/4 of anything) and a large one on my lower back (yes, tramp stamp) of 2 horse heads facing one another and forming a heart.

I spent years looking for the design for my first (and smaller) tattoo. I chose my second, large tattoo fairly quickly, but the concept of the image was one I had seen and had in mind for quite a few years (not as a tattoo, just as an image).

For anyone considering a tattoo but concerned about what it will look like as you get older, it is possible (and often recommended) that you get them touched up as you age (think 10+ years down the road, depending on how old you are when you first get it, the amount of sun exposure it gets, etc.). Plus different colors fade/bleed at different rates. Both of mine are done in black, which is the most stable. Red fades the fastest. For other colors, ask a reputable tattoo artist. If they aren't willing to talk to you and answer your questions, you don't want them putting a needle in your skin anyway.

Ultimately, when people thinking about tattoos asks me if they should get one, I tell them find what they want done first. The image should mean something to the individual, and remember that the person you are today isn't the person you'll be in 10 years (not just physically). Consider where you want it. How much will it hurt there? What will happen to it in that location as you age? For example, a tattoo on your belly will stretch/shrink as you gain/lose weight, and it will hurt. For women, if you get pregnant after getting a tattoo on your belly, will you still like it with stretch marks through it? If you find or draw up a tattoo that you like but still aren't sure, set it aside and wait a year. Ask yourself again if you want. Still not sure? Wait another year. If at this point you are certain you want it, go for it! If you're still not sure, chances are that either this isn't the image for you, or maybe tattoos aren't for you.

Tats aren't for everyone, but I got mine for me. I already have my next one planned, and that one has special meaning for me too. I don't see myself ever regretting them, and anyone thinking about it, you don't want to regret it either.

I have a tattoo across my left ankle of hearts that has a sword with my initial in the middle of it that extends to the middle of my foot and I certainly don't regret it.  It symbolizes loving myself through life's inevitable pain.  I'm getting a small butterfly on the inside of my right wrist next year not only as a symbolization of growth but to also match my sisters' tattoos they have of the same butterfly.  I always put mine in places that can easily be covered.

None here on either one of us.  No plans to get one, but if I had one, it would be a Nyan Cat.

Yes I have a small one with my children names in little hearts and i'm going to get one more with my husbands name. I wanted one that means something to me not just anything. My children and husband will always be apart of my life. Even if for some reason my husband and I don't last it doesn't matter we have been together for almost 20 years and has been a big part of my life so I would never regret putting his name on me.

Tatoo's are nothing new but I think the number of people getting them is a little off balance. I find the body beautiful as it is but, there are some who like to decorate it. Who is to say who is right. I just think a person should realize that these body dyes are permanent and a decision you make when you are young may change when you are older. ???

I have a tiny single letter, which is my initial, between my thumb and my index finger. I did it myself when I was about 18 and although I don't regret it, I still think it would have been a better idea to do it in a not-so conspicuous place. However, it's so tiny, people rarely notice it. Having said that, I'm not a big fan on tattoos, but I'm ok with people who is or has many, specially the art ones or very nice designs, or even small ones very well placed. The ones I'm not ok with, are the bad taste in style tattoos, specially in ladies; that big husband's or boyfriend's or child's name in script letters spanning from breast to breast across their chest it is a no-no for me. I understand why they do it, I just personally find it bad tasting. I don't like tattoos in people's faces, or when it's all over their body, without a single blank spot. I know the saying that our body is our own canvas, but you can change canvas and draw something else, you can't change your body.

That's just me, I have friends so enthusiastic about it, they want their whole body inked; that's just not for me.
