Today's the first time I've ever donated blood.
The fact that it's one pint scared me, but I still did it.
But the best part about it, Is that
The first time I"ve ever donated blood would be today.
My Birthday.
MORE Specifically..
MY 18th Birthday :') ;D

I used to give blood all the time. But the last time I gave blood person didn't know what they were doing. They could not find a vein and they poke so much my arm was sore for a week afterwards. So I cleared not give blood anymore!

I donated blood one time a number of years ago at my place of work. I was told that you sit in a really comfortable recliner chair. Was I disappointed.
They had me lay on a hard table on my back, staring at the ceiling. Then I had to open and close my fist throughout the whole procedure. All the time, I was told not to pay attention to the procedure. Yeah right ! Worst of all when I was through, I stood up and I nearly blacked out. I had to sit back down for about 5 minutes. Then to really finish it off, I felt so weak for the next day, that I could barely hold a pen to write. It took quite a number of hours before I really felt back to normal. So, never again did I donate blood. I did not enjoy it.

I've donated blood many times. I usually don't have a problem and I've learned to ask for someone who's experienced. The only time I've ever had a problem was when I donated plasma. That was a completely different story and I'll never do that again.

Even though I haven't donated I have received blood. It'a wonderful thing for people to do. I haven't because I heard if you had certain types of child hood illness you couldn't. I had chicken pox as a child I don't know if i'm eligable. I never thought I would ever need donated blood but I loss a lot of blood during a childbirth procedure and it was necessary. I thank the person who donated the blood I needed.

I also used to give blood but can't anymore because of my medicines i'm on for my heart condition. i'm O+ so i'm very much in need but what can i do. my daughter is also very much saught after, she is B+ and first gave blood last year at school when she was seventeen.

Congratulations. I myself am unable to give blood because my lupus causes me to have a problem with bleeding. If I get even a small cut some times the bleeding just won't stop. The more I bleed the more anemic I become and the bleeding is even harder to stop. I nearly died from a miscarriage because they had a very hard time stopping the bleeding. It was awful.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I've given 66 pints already. My daughter (who is highly fearful of needles) gave her first pint and then promptly fainted. As we walked into the room 3 months later so she could give her 2nd pint, she fainted in the doorway.....! She is now talking herself into giving number 3.....unfortunately I won't be around to see what happens. ;D

I really wanna donate one of these days, but I'm anemic. :( Hopefully one of these days!

I donated for years, but am not able to do it anymore. Doctors said no. But i don't think i will ever be able to repay all of blood donated to me while i was trying to carry a baby to term or at least far enough along for her to be able to live. My thanks to all of the most unselfish people who donate.

I love donating blood! I haven't been able to because I've been pregnant but I just gave birth so I finally can again!
Happy belated birthday!
-
I've tried to give blood several times but my iron is always too low.
My veins also roll so I'm a little weary of donating since most people have issues getting even a small amount of blood from me
-
 great

there is things you can eat to increase your iron level and as for the rolling veins my roll horribly too but my doctor has told me if you dirnk plenty of water before hand they don't roll as bad. but even so i do warn the person who is drawing my blood. there is some places that have techs that speciallize in hard sticks, just ask.

I wish I wasn't such a wimp so I could give blood. My fiance does it regularly. When I have blood drawn for medical purposes, I'm the person they have to strap into the chair because I might faint (I have before) so I really would not be able to manage a pint *shiver*

Ive tried but everytime have been denied for various reasons out of country within a year, headache, blood condition maybe not meant to be i am supposed to help out in another way im dont know

Wish I could, but on way too many pain meds.. Congrats on your 1st time.. It's gotta be a fantastic feeling knowing you are going to help some one else..

That's awesome. Most of the time when I want to donate for a blood drive I'm ineligible (piercings, etc.) or I don't have enough time (I don't think it's considered safe to donate then drive to work just 10 minutes later). Maybe I should start looking around for where I can donate when I schedule it instead of trying to hit a blood drive. Hmmm . . . .

I gave blood once. I have rolling veins, so it was hard to get the needle in. I would like to donate more often, but I didn't like the pain and feeling queasy afterward. I have also thought about selling plasma... but I'm afraid I will have the same results... Anyone have any suggestions to make it less stressful?
-
I've given blood twice.
The first time was smooth and easy, the second time I clotted and it sucked!
-
That was a blessing :angel12:

I have never given blood. Needles are not my friend. I have helped the Red Cross as a volunteer.

anotherlaujgirl Congrats on the donating and Happy belated Birthday :) I try to donate at least once a year. It's been about 12 years now for me. Unlike most people who get a little weak from it I get more energy and feel like bouncing off walls when I donate. I love the cookies too that they offer, mmmm. I know of a lot of people who have needed blood transfusions and I am happy to know that I have tried to do my little part to help. Keep it up, it's a wonderful thing to do and it doesn't take much at all.

The first time I donated blood was a little over 8 years ago. I wasn't really fond of the idea, for several reasons, but a really close friend was also donating. I think that was really the only reason I actually did it, we were right across from each other so that made it a little easier. Another friend was also there and they stood next to me so we could all talk, that definitely helped too.
-
a little late but happy birthday, and congrats on giving blood! dont worry, a pint wont kill you...you'll have plenty left over ;)
-
I donated once but I got sick afterwards....felt really tired and weak. Went over to my friend's house but just slept there for a few hours. So I haven't donated after that.
-
I know I'm late but Happy Belated Birthday and congratulations on donating blood! I'm 19 and I don't think I've done it yet.

Congrats on your 18th and congrats on donating. Unfortunately, since I spent 10 years in Germany, I'm not eligible....

I use to give blood, until I was told that; since my parents was over seas that I couldn't donate any longer.
-
They just started offering a promotion around here that if you donate a pint of blood, you get a pound of Dunkin Donuts coffee. I planned on donating soon anyhow since I want a tattoo in the next few months and won't be able to for a year afterwards.

That's great that you donated blood :) I always feel really happy when I donate. By the way, Happy Birthday! ;D
