DoorBot Lets You Answer Your Door With a Smartphone or Tablet
Wouldn't it be great to answer your front door with a smartphone? That's the promise of Doorbot, a Wi-Fi-enabled doorbell that alerts you whenever someone pushes its button, sending audio and video to your smartphone. from Mashable.com

??? really??? wow

I think this is ridiculous. People today are too dependent on technology and it makes us extremely lazy. I've heard rumors of this doorbell thing and a voice command remote. Really people?
-
Sounds good anyway...

I wouldn't get that. I don't answer the door if I'm not expecting someone as it is. Having my phone tell me someone is at the door as well would just bug me. One of the first things I do when I move into a new house is disconect the doorbell.

My latest cool app is Flashlight. I got to use it today when I had to look for something in my shed that has no lighting. It is really bright too!

Great idea but needs more work

I'm still too cheap to even have a smartphone. I just refuse to spend that much money every month for internet access that I won't use. I have a very limited (and cheaper) internet access plan with my phone. It's just enough to check my email if I really need to (which is rare) and to access Mapquest when I get lost (nope, no GPS either. There's no adventure if you have something telling you where to go.).

I would rather answer the door myself.

Well, that might be cool if it allowed you to know when someone rang the doorbell when you were out of the house. You could say like "I'm not here at the moment." Otherwise, I wouldn't use it a lot unless I lived in a mansion and it would take a while to answer the door. The idea seems pretty cool though. I might just try it out for the heck of it

i dont own or know about this app for smartphone
-
i think I like this idea only to use the cellphone as an alternative to get to my house just in case if I lose my key.
-
I dont have a smartphone, and dont need one. People are becoming more dependent on technology, and one day may find it hard to breathe without machines LOL. :dontknow:
-
I guess I can rely on surveillance cam connected with my smartphone for remote monitoring, but beyond that I will not be doing any automation, such as turning on appliances or even responding a door summon other than seeing who is bugging my family.
-
I have never heard of DoorBot. Sounds like a great app. Must look into it.

All I can say is the security on that app better be through the roof tight. Can you imagine what would happen if you installed the app with minimum security on the app and someone stole your phone? They'd have instant access to your house. :BangHead:
When I first read the description I laughed. Let me tell you about this wonderful invention - when someone pushes a button outside your door, and actual bell rings inside your house alerting you to the presence of someone there. Use some of your 12,000 exercise steps per day to navigate yourself to the door and look through the glass or peephole to visually see who's outside to decide if you will open the door or not...
This "app" is way to gimicky for me...

oh so glad I am not the only one who disconnected the door bell don't you love watching people just pushing away on a button lol!!!
As to the question that is ridiculous way to dependent on technology it has made people so lazy!!!

It is getting beyound ridiculous, the way people have enslaved themselves to technology. It would be very easy for any other country to take over America. All they have to do is take over the technology, and most people would be too helpless to do anything to resist!

You got to be kidding does it flush your toilet as well? And all of the other things I cannot discuss here if you know what I mean. ;D ;D ;D

doesnt sound like something i would use..sounds like a bit much.
