Title: Rabbit
Post by: Garydh on December 23, 2012, 06:53:31 pm
Has anyone eaten rabbit. My son in law is raising what they call meat rabbits. I understand they are good. Does anyone do that, or know what they taste like?

When I was a kid I spent my summers at my grandma's small farm in northern Florida. We ate pretty much every small rodent type animal you can name, including 'coon, 'possum, muskrat, and, of course, rabbit. It's true what they say..."taste like chicken"! :D

Rabbits make wonderful pets...not meals.  Eating them probably causes terminal illness just as wearing their furs can cause a life-long rash.  :bunny:

I love Rabbit. My grandma raised them and they were so good. And are really good for you.  Once in a while i will splurge for a rabbit in a store, but i also like dear. elk and buffalo. They are so much better for a person to eat, thenthe beef and other meat bought in the store, no hormons and additives in them. Yep raised in the country.

I have not tasted rabbit, but I may be willing to do so. I see survival experts on survival shows eat a rabbit sometimes.

I never have, but I have heard of it being done.  I wouldn't mind trying it if I ever got the chance to do so.

My dad raised rabbits.  We ate alot of rabbits, helped take care of alot of the babies.  We ate more rabbit than we did chicken.  They are good.  The meat is like dark meat of a chicken.  I wouldn't go so far as to say they taste the same, but,  you cook them the same.  Anyway, I like domestic rabbit.  We had New Zealand whites.  Later my Dad had Rex rabbits, which are used primarily for the fur but he wasn't into that so he ate them.  I think he told me the meat from the Rex wasn't as good as the New Zealands.
