Title: Is smiling contagious?

It takes more muscles to frown than smile. So smile and make someones day!

Lately I have been coming across the rude ones though. boo! I used to be a cashier so I can understand their frustration, but I always pretended to be having a good day for the customers.

However, if people aren't dealing with any issues like that, then yes, smiling at others tends to cause them to smile.

I think they both are. :)

I have caught laughter from someone else and it did wonders for me. As for smilling my aunt is big on smiling. She doesn't mention it a lot, but does it all the time and when I see her smile it encourages me and makes me want to smile as well. I really enjoy seeing others smile and find that it does put a smile on my face too. ;) :D ;D

For example, yawning is thought to be contagious because if one person yawns, it means that they are tired and it signals that it is time to sleep. In a social setting, this would then get passed through the "tribe" to signal that the tribe should sleep. Likewise if someone smiles, they are probably happy for some reason. If in a group of people, one person smiling probably means that there is a reason for the others to be happy too.

Then again if you just smile at some random person for no reason at all, they'll probably smile back, thinking you're just a little nutty ;D

I believe so. If you walk around smiling at people, they tend to smile back. And smiling makes a person feel good.

Although, I agree about the kind of smile.. something warm, bright, and friendly is bound to catch on versus something creepy, sarcastic, etc. It's nice to receive a pleasant smile when you're out and about, even if you're in a really bad mood it can sometimes make you switch over to a lighter mood which then has the potential to change the rest of your day. :) :wave:
