I come from a large family-1 of 11 kids.  I only have 1 child.  Don't understand why my Mom and Dad never went gaga with all those kids around, but they did a great job. :)

I don't have 5 or 6 kids But i am currently pregnant with my 3rd and hope to at least have one more... My husband and I have a 2 year space between the kids we think this is a good gap not to far away to have one another to play with and not close enough to have them all in diapers and having to change all at once. Good luck with your adventure in 5 or 6 kids you will have your work cut out for you but it is so rewarding  :)

I strongly recommend you to have 1-2 children let them age a few years, then really consider having another child. the time, effort & money they take up, by the time they are 18 the stress will have turned your hair gray and depleted your savings account  :crybaby2:    But .. yes they are wonderful, my favorite period is the question about everything  :dontknow:

Both my parents came from large families.  They each had an average of 10 siblings.  I don't have a large immediate family at least not large to my thinking.  I have one half brother and three half sisters.  They are much older than I am.  I only had a few cousins around my age growing up and the rest are all older than me.  I love going to family reunions on both sides and seeing all my tons of relatives.  I don't have kids myself (not really planning on it).

Back 100 years ago, when the population was small and infant mortality was high, it made sense to have large families. Most people were farmers and needed as much free manual labor as they could get. They also knew that if they had 12 babies, half of them might be dead from TB, diphtheria, polio, or whooping cough, etc. by age 10. NONE of these things are true any more. Besides, housing, food, a decent education, and health care now far more expensive. People with large families are often unable to fully support them, so they burden the rest of us with the expense of their care. Frankly, giving birth to more than than 2 is just selfish...A wonderfully unselfish way to have a large family is to adopt or be foster parents. Then the state may provide some additional services!
