I could see parents considered "lazy" if they named their kids "Boy" and "Girl."
-
I am expecting and my husband and I had a deal ...if it is boy he's the give the name and if its a girl me. We will having boy so he win, he give this kinda weird name for me but I think it will be fine. Our baby will used to it. It is a blend name anyway.
-
I don't think it's laziness at all. I think they just want a unique name for their special children.
-
Don't know but that's their choice.
-
Some parents aren't thinking to far ahead. That child has to grow up with that name they are given, kids in school are known for making fun of other kids with strange names. Then you have those names that you can't pronounce or you can't spell.
Every few years the popular names change. Those parents that named their kid Hitler?? There had to be something wrong with those parents.
-
Parents wanted their child name different from others.
-
To add uniqueness to the "name pool". Sometimes it's a good name, sometimes it's bad.
-
The worst name I've heard so far is: La-a
The story goes, the teacher asked how to say the little girl's name to the mother and the mom said, "It's La dash ah....the dash ain't no silent, Ladasha."
Terrible!

I'm a parent of 3 whom all have unique names. Some traditional but extensive in the sense where it's generational. Another where it's just down right unique. And my 3rd has a Russian name. We wanted the names to stand out and really match our kids personalities...kinda hard to determine that when first laying eyes on them...but as they grow up and ya look at them...there name matches just right.

Some people like to be unique, and what is considered weird is definitely subjective. However, they were having this conversation on the radio a while ago and asked people to call in with unique names they have heard or considered. One person called in talking about a road everyone here passes on the way to Las Vegas, Zzyzzx (?) Road. She, like many people, thought this was a random collection of letters. Turns out, this is an actual word. She called to say that she has wanted to name a kid this one day ever since she found out it was a real word, even though she doesn't know what it means. In my subjective opinion, that's just dumb, not unique.

None of my 3 children have "normal" names. You probably have never heard of two of them. This is not laziness-just my taste. I do consider lack of grammar and proper spelling lazy though.
-
I think, with the popularity of regular names, parents want to name children names that are unique or never heard of. For instance, my name is Fatenia, which has a story to go to it. Two girls (another girl and I) were born on September 3, 1958 in Clarksville, TN. My mother named me Fatenia with an "e" in it and the other lady named her daughter Fatina without the "e". My name is mistaken for Fatima and to be perfectly honest, four babies have been named after me. I formerly worked for a not-for-profit Social Service agency when I lived in Chicago. I registered a child one day and the mother actually named her child Takeelah. I thought that was odd. It sounded like she was named for a drink. :) ;D

Here are some lazy names, Call one "this" and the other one "That" LOL
-
i dont know about weird, but i have a friend named Shona... pronounced shoh-na. She was named after the restaurant Shoney's, because its her parents favorite place to eat. Its unique, thats for sure!
-
A friend of mine called his daughter "Cylindria" because he is really into motorbikes and into BMW's in particular. He named his daughter after the bike's cylinder!!! She kinda grew into the name, but is having a lot of teasing at school about it. He still thinks it's a great name for his daughter!
-
Because they care more about being original than what their kids will actually think about what they are named.
-
I think alot of people start naming their kids after celebraties, and we all know how weird their kids' names are! Me personally, I'm sticking to the normal names. I don't need to be like the famous people.
-
There is a big difference is unique and just plain stupid. ;) I wanted my kids to have names you didn't hear 20 times a day. I wanted them to be able to go to school and when their name was called know it was them the teacher was speaking to and not one of the other dozen Michaels, Jennifers or Adains or Caitlins that were being called. I also wanted to make sure they weren't stupid sounding names that would get them made fun off on a daily basis. I think I did pretty well, my oldest daughter is named Raina, my son is named River and youngest daughter is named Romma. My son did have his name on a spelling test once, he thought that was pretty cool ;D
-
My mom made up my name, which seemed to work out just fine. Just glad that she didn't go completely ghetto on me...like Shinaqualesha or something like that!!! I got lucky.
-
My mother ask the nurse to name me ahahaha the story still makes me laugh. ;D
-
probably because they want the names to be unique and original :o
-
I don't understand why parents name their kids with weird names either. They don't seem to realize that whatever name they give their child remains with them through life.
I do not understand what is wrong with normal typical names like Ryan, David, Daniel, Michael, Robert, Mary, Susan, etc. My feeling is that the parents must be mixed up or
they are trying to be different. Well, if that's their goal, they are definitely successful.
-
Normal / common names has their benefits as they're a little more difficult to find online for privacy reasons. I have seen some creative unique names, but I don't think I could name my children this way either as I'm sure the name teasing will be an issue.
-
I think there's some parents how try to give their kids unique names and unique spellings of traditional names, but as long as it's in the realm of spoken language, I can deal. It's the people who straight up make NONSENSE names for their kids that I don't understand. It's like they're asking for their child not to be taken seriously in the real world!
-
these days the names are very unique. you can almost tell by a persons name the era they were born....
-
I think parents just want their kids to have unique names instead of the every day normal ones that every other person has. My aunt named all 3 of my cousins unique names; Neve, Nolan & Norah, all of which are Gaelic descent.
-
I THINK NAMING A CHILD IS VERY IMPORTANT. NAMES HAS MEANINGS, AND SOME MEANINGS CAN BE DISTURBING.
-
my future mother in law somehow thought gabriel was spelled gaberil. dude, really? it's always been spelled gabriel. look in the bible.
-
Some parents name their kids with weird names, thinking that this would make them unique. God knows, what the kids would say when they grow up, and dislike their names.
-
cause they just dont have no since at all plus they are lazy sumtimes
Usually the parents are weird...lol... :dontknow:
-
Unique names are fine but they have to make sense!! I agree that the parents need to think of how the name sounds and understand that the child might feel out of place if there name is really different.
-
Yeah some people genuinely like the name they give their kids and think it's unique and special. Or maybe they're named after one of their relatives who was very close to the parents. Sometimes I think parent's are either cruel or they thought it was clever at the time which I think is dumb to do.
-
I don't see how it has anything to do with being lazy, but yes sometimes they are a bit much. I like unique names and I can understand parents wanting something different for their children. I'm not a fan of the extremely strange names, but to each his own.
-
Probably a good name for them that's why they pick, but weird to others?!
-
I think parents just want to name there kids something unique. My mother thought my name was so cute and different, but I hated my name growing up because it was never pronounced properly. I've always used my nickname.
-
Maybe they are trying to be original...who knows...they do....
-
It's not laziness, but some do go a lot overboard when naming their child. It's their choice.
-
Because they're trying to be "creative", when really, they just have poor judgement.
-
i always think every weird name is unique, the parents always have reason, not laziness i think.
-
I thought about your question today and had to search for your post in order to give you another perspective. I underwrite loans at one of my jobs. When looking at the pictures in appraisals we have to make sure that the home owners/pictures of the homeowners aren't in the photo because any action taken in deciding the acceptance.declination of the loan could be tainted by whether the perception of a minority or non-minority applicant is involved in receiving/not receiving money from the transaction. I think that having a name that is weird sets a person up for the same kind of prejudicial treatment that the government is trying to avoid by all of the precautions I outlined. Parent's naming their children weird names may just be enforcing their pre-disposition to be held down all of their lives.
-
cause they just dont have no since at all plus they are lazy sumtimes
Lazy I do not think so. It may have a meaning to the Family that you just do not understand. Maybe they wanted to name their child that name because it may have been a family person name back in the day. What makes no sense is a person who sit around a judge another of how they name their child which is really no business of yours at all. I mean really, people keep judging others over things that it is none of their business.
-
I understand that parents want their child to have a unique name but then they shouldn't get upset when people can't figure out how to say their child's name.
