It happened this morning.
A 1 ton meteorite smashed into a Russian factory, and injured some like 1000 people.
True story. Weird science.
-
never underestimate mother nature things happen we never know we could wiped out in a blink of an eye
-
Wait until you see the videos. It was streaking across the sky dropping hot burning rocks, that was what caused windows to break in cars, houses, factories and stores. Puts a new meaning to "THE SKY IS FALLING".
I heard that so far most of the people injured were injured by breaking glass.
-
I heard about that!! Did not read the article but, though it very strange!! I guess they said it was in a 1 in 1000 year occurance. I don't know we could be getting someone mad at us!!

Really?

It is so scary!! They weren't expecting it to happen.

How much do you want to bet that in the following days we will be subjected to all those "threats from the skies" movies on television? I believe there is one actually named "Meteor" or "Asteroid" (or maybe one of each).
-
it happens, some lady had one crash through her roof onto her coffee table a while ago.
-
just happy no deaths could have been a lot worse.
-
I was just watching several videos covering the meteorite over on youtube.
WOW!!!
-
I cannot believe that those who could see the other meteor thousands of miles away did not see this one right on our doorstep.
It just sounds 'wrong' to me. Someone had to know about it.
-
i saw it on tv, it looked pretty cool when it was coming down from the sky, the big hole it left with fire in it, it just sucks for people that where hurt cuz of it, really sad.
-
i saw something online/ internet about it.ppl flimed it as it was happening..
-
Yes I saw the video of the Meteorite that crashed in Russia, you never know what may happen next. :icon_rr:

Yes it exploded when it hit the atmosphere, but it was the sound waves that broke so much glass. Many people went to their windows to see it streaking across the sky right before the sound waves took them out. That's why so many got injured.

I am just hearing this for the first time and it sounds scary to me. Hopefully those people that were hurt heal fast and recover soon from this.
-
That was amazing scary. Could you imagine if that would of happened here? ???
-
Strangest part of it to me is that no one knew it was coming. I remember about two weeks ago it was all over the news that one was going to be coming within some many millions of miles of earth and that even though it seemed like a long ways away that in space terms it was pretty close. I heard about it for days. Then this one comes flying right in and hits earth and no one even knew it was coming???? Does that mean if a missle was coming they would not know that either??? I thought we tracked that stuff even when it was happening elsewhere in the world.
-
This is the first I'm hearing of it - I'll have to look up those videos!
Regarding the question on missiles - most of that tracking is done by either ground radar or satellites looking down on the Earth detecting launches, then track the object. They are not pointing into space looking for things falling from the sky. We only have a small fraction of the space outside our orbit monitored for such things.

Those poor people. I wish them the best in the aftermath of dealing with that meteororite.
-
Jesus will return soon..these things are happening now.

Siberia hasn't had much luck with exploding meteorites in the past 100-ish years.
