Ooooh, who doesn't like fine china?  I think it's a great thing to pass along to your children or family members.  One of my favorite patterns was Lenox's Rosebud.  Gorgeous little red roses surrounding the dish with a gold edging.  Take a peek at www.Lenox.com.  I don't know too much about their patterns these days, but you never know, you might find something you really like.

Fine China is elegant, and in some parts of the US it is considered almost as a necessity! (Yeah, there are pseudo-aristocracy types still around ;D) Fine China never goes out of style, and though it is certainly not a need for survival, it does maintain its value, some patterns actually appreciate.

Sterling silver flatware has become prohititively expensive for most, so fine china is about the only way to class up a table setting for many.

I bought a very nice set of fine china 33+ years ago before I got married.  It was expensive then and VERY expensive now to replace if I should break a piece.  So, needless-to-say, I don't use it very often.
