i do i get some good deals but i have friends that say they wouldn't be caught dead in a thrift store what do you think i say if i can save money one things i need i will
-
absolutely! i'm asked ALL the time, "where did you get that?"
whether it be clothes, home goods, etc. nobody believes me
most of the time, when i say salvation army or goodwill.
i must be a dirty, poor, bag lady... but you're digging my style!
what does that say? haha.
don't worry, we are the smart ones

Your friend have an 'attitude' problem!! Yeah, I remember gals refusing to wear the Calvin Kline anythings because K-Mart began selling Calvin Kline jeans... just to much pride in some folks!!
I got a lesson on Dollar stores by a niece, who was a college student and really on tight finances. I picked her up once when I was passing through the college town just to treat her to dinner somewhere I knew she would never go to on her own. Anyway, it was a little eary in the day for dinner, so she directed me to a Dollar Tree store... I had never been inside any of the 'dollar stores' before so I thought this was something new for me, a little adventure! I was liteally shocked to discover what this place was all about! Everything in the place was $1, even if it could be had for .50¢ at anyother store, or it was $10 elsewhere. I kind of got 'into' this shopping trip, and I picked up the tab too, $23 in all, and we carried out merchandise she would have had to spend close to $100 for!!
WOW, yes I learned, and I have vistited the Dollar Tree chain store ever sense. I see absolute everythng right about spending as little as necessary to get items you need. For most of the basic things, like bar soap, baby poweder, bleach and hundreds of other items
I think it is silly to pay three times as much as you need too, even if money is not all that important to you!! Gee, keep the savings and give those to a good cause!!
:)

I love, love, LOVE thrift shops! I've never been too proud to wear a hand-me-down or clothes given to me. It definitely saves money~and if you look carefully, you can get some very great things. Some of the things I have gotten the most compliments on have been from thrift shops. To me, you're crazy to go and spend $$$big bucks for one or two new things when you can get tons of stuff for the same price at a thrift shop. Think of all the people who are clean, respectable, nice people that have lost or gained weight and need a new clothes. Love it....have fun and get good deals!!!
-
I love to shop at thrift stores. Occassionally, you are able to find great brand names. I have gotten things at thrift stores and sold them on ebay and doubled and tripled my money.
-
I volunteer at a thrift store, and I also shop there. There are some really neat things there, and alot cheaper than going downtown. I say Yeh for thrift stores, and especially in this economy, I think they are great!
-
I'm all about Thrift stores. I'm a single mother of a 4 year old daughter and I find good deals on clothing for her. I've even found new with tags still on stuff at the Goodwill here. I sell what she can't wear anymore at a consignment shop and use the money I get to buy her new stuff from the same consignment shop.
-
Sometimes I do shop there and other times I don't
-
I don't usually shop in thrift stores, but I have heard that you can find some great deals in some thrift stores. I'm looking forward to saving some money this year.
-
I don't shop at thrift shops, but I do donate to Goodwill. I don't think I'm too good to shop at Goodwill, but I just haven't. I do shop at dollar stores. I find some really good bargains there. My favorite is greeting cards - they are much cheaper there than at other stores.
-
I definitely shop at the Dollar stores and I also love their greeting card prices. My kids go to lots of birthday parties, and I can afford to get lots of birthday cards there and then a nicer gift as opposed to spending $5 on a card.
-
Todays deal, ab roller, I had to put it together and receipt was actually at the bottom of the box, 126.00, I paid 25 cents, a couple weeks ago, my excercise bike 25 cents. yes, my total gym cost 50 cent and looken for more stuff.
-
I love thrift stores. Most of my wardrobe came from thrift stores or rummage sales. I have such a hard time paying full price for most things.
-
I love a good yard sale of a thrift store.....we learn early on how to save money when we shop at these places.....I find good items....
-
With the economy what it is I think you have to shop where you can get the best deals. I'm always looking for someplace that sells things cheaper. We're retired and don't have the extra money to waist on brand named clothing and other items.
-
i do i get some good deals but i have friends that say they wouldn't be caught dead in a thrift store what do you think i say if i can save money one things i need i will
yes i do sometimes i just cant stay to long the smell gets to me and then im outta there but i do find great things in there when i do go :D
-
I love thrift stores. One man's trash is another's treasure! I use to only give to the thrift stores but now I am the bargain seeker.
-
We tend to shop at goodwill alot. Both of the girls are on uniforms for school and the 10 year old is growing taller all the time and goes right through her pants. It's to expensive to go to a regular store when she is out of them in two to three months.
-
thirft stores are a great place to find treasures.
-
yes i do,,i get some good deals there :dog:
-
Hey I love Thrift stores. When you have a kid who plays and clothes get ruined like falling on ground or skidding of the knee. My lil guy plays and falls. I am glad that I did not spend 50 bucks for them jeans. Plus you get nice things and bargains that last till you donate it back(meaning the good items that are not ruined). At the Dollar store he was able to get a bubble blower. He loves bubbles. I am grateful for the people who donate. I just donated 4 bags of things the other day. I am sure someone will appreciate that.
-
I prefer thrift stores for everything I and my family need with the exception of shoes, underwear, socks and hair stuff. I bought a purse from a Goodwill about 3 years ago. $1.99. It recently started to fray and I trimmed all the loose ends. The purse's handle broke when I did that. So I'm out $2. It's time to update anyway. My kids and I have spent hours at a time in thrift stores. Particularly during Halloween.
-
I love thrift stores and im not ashamed to say i shop there to save a dollar!
-
I don't shop at them very often, but I find them very interesting and I've found some exceptional bargains. I like shopping for things I didn't know I needed.
-
i do i get some good deals but i have friends that say they wouldn't be caught dead in a thrift store what do you think i say if i can save money one things i need i will
Yep. You can get some great deals.

We actually got a "high-end" thrift shop that opened up recently... I say "high-end" because they advertise on the radio to bring in your used Abercrombie & Fitch, GAP, and other more expensive clothing boutiques. They are trying to target more of the teens and college-age population that while being very fashion conscious are also the ones that have very little disposable income. I keep wanting to go in and check it out, esp. to see how much of a discount they are selling their items for.
I have shopped at a Goodwill in the past, but that was more for getting a Halloween costume (I cross-dressed as a woman, so wanted to buy actual women's clothing without having to pay full price). Whenever I've actually looked for myself, however, the clothes seem to be not in the best shape. It may just be that guys are just a little more rough on their clothes and / or aren't as worried about their style so hold onto their clothing longer before donating it.
I do like going to thrift shops and *bleep* shops for other items besides clothing, however. I have greatly increased my CD collection by purchasing a bunch of used CDs from these places, usually for only $1 a piece. Just the other week, my jaw dropped by my good fortune, getting several CDs released within the last year: I got Justin Timberlake's 20/20, Christina Aguilera's Lotus, and Ke$ha's Warrior all for 50-cents (there was a sale for 10 CDs for $5)!
-
I love thrift stores and goodwill stores. You can find some great items, sometimes they are even new!
-
DAZ LIKE DA ONLY PLACE I SHOP MAYN. goodstuff. good deals. good quality (a lot of the time). good for the environment....why wouldn't you do it?
I bought a bunch of old-man sweaters for 2-5bucks/a piece. Thanks for my winter wardrobe salvation army/goodwill/small-town thrift shops!
-
I use to think thrift stores were gross but I love them now! You can find brand new stuff for cheap!!
-
" I GOT TWENTY DOLLARS IN MY POCKET" I'LL WEAR YOUR GRANDDADS CLOTHES" LOL
-
I love a good thrift store. I have found some of the most amazing things. Recently, we bought a mortar and pestle that was made in India. It has the OM symbol on it. LOVE IT!
:bunny:

i do i get some good deals but i have friends that say they wouldn't be caught dead in a thrift store what do you think i say if i can save money one things i need i will
i love going to thrift store. the thrift store that i go to have good deals every sunday. All the clearance are 50 cents.
-
I love the thrift stores. I have found some nice jewelry pieces, furniture and collectibles. I don't know if they were intentionally priced so cheap or if the person pricing them didn't know what they had. I am always on the outlook for a treasure-15 cent Navajo handmade silver sand-cast ring-loved it.
-
It's funny - a few days after I wrote here I didn't shop thrift stores, I found one that had just opened and looked through it. I did buy something. I don't have a real reason I don't shop them - just never think of it. Also, I do most of my shopping online because my arthritis keeps me from walking very much. I have never felt I was too good.
-
I enjoy shopping at thrift stores. The one that I shop at the most not only has reasonable prices, nice merchandise, but when I pay they tell me that I have fed so many people at their mission which feels my heart even more to know that I have helped someone else, too.
-
I shop thrift stores and can sometimes find great things but not very often. Thrift stores are great for pants. Thrift stores in nicer areas are good, too. I have no problem wearing someone else's clean clothes if they're still in good shape.
-
Thrift store's are wonderful for people who need things that cant afford to buy. I live right across the street from one, Its small but Its fine becasue not many people go to that one, others are going for the bigger thrift store.
-
I shop in thrift stores for stuff I can use to make new crafts. I love it when I can find a new train case or something that I can revamp into something people want to use rather than throw away.
-
I have a friend that shops thrift stores and will call me when she finds something she knows I would like - to see if I want her to get it for me, but I rarely go to thrift stores. Mostly because of their locations. There aren't any on my normal route, or they are closed when I am out and about.
-
I sometimes shop in those stores. You do find some nice things in them.
-
My daughter and her friends shop at thrift stores. She's gotten some cute things.
-
i love them, i can usually get shorts for the summer at them....
-
Yes, I love thrift stores.
-
yes great deals on good stuff why not
-
One year I didn't have a lot of money and I needed a coat. I didn't know what to do so I went to a thrift store. I walked out of that store with one of the best coats that money can buy a Harris Tweed. I paid all of $6.95 cents for it. So to the nay sayers who wouldn't be caught dead in a thrift store I say I hope you never need anything you can't afford to buy. I don't keep my nose so far in the clouds that I don't buy the things I need or want because of where I find them. It might help to develop an open mind. :angel11:
-
Oh heck yeah you can find alot of nice things at thrift stores from clothes to can opener's to alarm clocks and etc. when I had my second child here I come thrift store she is 21 now and we still go to a thrift store matter of fact we have one right up the hill here and a dollar store right down the street we are blessed brand name stuff you just can't beat the prices. And we also donate our clothes to the purple heart luv it
-
:) yes I love, love, love thrift shopping. The only items I don't peurchase are underwear. Everything else yes, yes, yes. I have found name brand clothes under 5 bucks thrift shopping all thrift stores are not created equal for instance I have a favorite store that sells name brands for a fraction of what goodwill sells them for plus the staff are friendlier.
-
I do but it seems to be hit and miss as far as whether or not I find anything. I have read of several articles lately about people who consistently look for certain items not just to save money for their own needs, but resale on ebay for extra income (things like Pyrex, name brand clothing, books, etc). It takes time and some stores are better than others.
-
Thrift shops are great places to find deals on lots of different things clothing ,furniture and other items. It is a great place for children's clothes because most of the time children out grow the clothes before they wear them out out. Sometimes it is hit or miss and sometimes you have to dig a bit but i have gotten brand new 3 pc pant sets for 3.00 and 6 drinking glasses for 3.00 a northface winter jacket for 35.00 that I have worn for the past 3 years.
If the thrift shops let you consign to sell items that isa a great way to make some extra cash and recycle things you no longer use. Just make sure you understand their policyfor consigning. Most shop give you 50% of the sale price . Some let you set the price others do not. Most shops rule of thumb if new should be no higher than 50% of what you paid.
-
yes I do shop at thrift store's!! I love salvation Army and Goodwill, the best thing about those store's is that you never know what you will find in them
-
Your friends are probably saying that because they don't want you to catch them there. You can find some neat things in thrift shops...check it out.
-
My husband and I recently picked up some gardening tools for hardly anything! We would have spent over 50$ at any other store for the same thing. I have also just purchased a candy and meat thermometer. Some of the best cook books I have found are at thrift stores. I have a great one that sells for over 20 bucks. I bought it at a thrift store for a buck.
:bunny:
-
I love shopping at thrift stores. When I had my own collectable store I resold some of that stuff for at least a buck more and they were not worried where it came from, and some of my customers wouldn't shop at thrift stores or even Wal-Mart, it was the cleaning of the products and the way my store was arranged. Did pretty good for a while but the lady I rented the building died and her sister and we got into it she wanted to raise the rent, electric, and propane so I closed my store down in Jan 1, 2008 and the building has been empty since she still has the for rent sign up, her loss.
-
My mom was one of those who had a problem with buying used goods, but I'll gladly give things another life. People today throw away too much. :dontknow:
About a year ago I moved into this apartment. There are ten units in all that share a dumpster. My neighbors throw away usable goods all the time. I rescued clothes, a doll, some plates and flatware, three reusable shopping bags and a whole bag of fabric. I donated or found homes for most of it, use the bags and added the laundered fabric to my crafting supplies. 8)
When we had the Duke City Shootout annual film competition I dressed sets with goods from the thrift stores. They are a set dressers friend. :star:
-
I love thrift stores ;D
-
I shop at them all the time. There are certain things I will not buy at a thrift store unless they are in a manufacturer's closed package.
-
Our entire family loves the thrift stores in our area. My daughter gets almost all of her clothes from the thrift store and my son gets the majority of his clothes there as well. I like the fact that they have a very eclectic variety that can fit almost anyone's taste in clothing. It does save us a lot of money as well.
We shop on Wednesdays because of the fact that their clothes are half off on Wednesdays in our area. There is nothing to be ashamed of because when it all comes down to it, you are really being frugal shopping at thrift stores.
-
I definitely do. Not all the time though. I like to go and browse once in a while and see what I find. There can be some great bargains
-
I do !!! And they have some decent stuff and kind of unique stuff as well i enjoy stopping by them every so often and love the thrift shop song on the radio now makes me think about my own experiences !!!
-
i do i get some good deals but i have friends that say they wouldn't be caught dead in a thrift store what do you think i say if i can save money one things i need i will
This is a quote from a song..."Im gonna pop some tags, only got twenty dollars I my pocket, Imma huntin, looking for a dollar, this is f#@$ing awesome. The name of the song is thriftstore. How can anyone go wrong getting a bargin and saving money to the same time??? ??? :peace:
-

-
I shop at thrift stores but my favorite is yard sales.
-
When I was down and out, I shopped at thrift stores / dollar stores because I had to. Now, that I am working again, I shop there because I want to.
-
My wife go to thrift stores often, I tend to go with her. Somethings I find some good things and deals there.
-
yes there are some good stuff !
-
yes i get some nice stuff there at great prices
-
Yes I like to shop there, sometimes there are really good deal. We got some really good kitchen utensil there that is hard to find in the store.
-
I do sometimes shop at thrift stores! I have found some really good buys at Goodwill!
-
I prefer garage sales but thrift stores work too...
-
I shop at them. I just did a complete wardrobe do-over. I'm lucky, since I live in an area that has a lot of thrift stores. Bought several pairs of pants, t-shirts, a jacket. I like going to them because often they have things that are so unique, that I'd never be able to find elsewhere. And I get a great bargain! It's way better than shopping in a regular department store. I also use ebay.com, although their prices tend to be a bit more expensive.
-
If you can save some money. why not!
-
I have never shopped in one,, but my daughter does all the time. And she has found some great clothing and other items lol Most of the clothing still has the original tags on them,,, they have never been worn so they are brand new. She loves these places. Thank goodness we have several in our area she checks out !!!!
And I also know some people who would not be caught dead in them places,,,,,,,,,,,,, Oh well,,, let them go pay the high prices for new clothing, what ever works for them :)
-
Thrift stores can be great places to get a bargain. However, let the buyer beware. I shop them often.
-
Yes, I shop at Thrift stores, my 14 years old daughter loves to go there and we find great stuff, we take one day a month and hit all the thrift stores in the area, and come out with at leat one bag from each. Of course I will not buy underwear and socks, there but everything else is fair play.
I also shop at dollar stores, and find great deals. I try to go with the cash I am planning to spend, because if I go with my purse and debit card I would spend maybe $50 in one trip. Some of their things are really good and I have often bought many decor stuff as picture frames and knick knacks that make my table/house look better and nobody would believe that it is from the Dollar store. Any penny save is better for my pocket.
-
I like going into thrift stores and consignment shops. You can find some real good items for next too nothing. Some of the clothing the stores have now are of the cheapest material and wouldn't stand up to a regular washing. I do not like flimsy clothing and have to pay a lot for them. I don't get to shop often but when we go to a town that has one i like to go in and browse.
-
at times i shop at thrift stores i can also get good buys there and like if your low on cash
-
I shop in thrift stores and get some good stuff for myself and others. I have recently started refashioning clothes and I get a lot of goodies from those places.
-
My husband calls this a date...seriously this is where he takes me out to.
-
Love thift stores for getting my kids clothes!!
-
love to shop thrift stores...my kids are forever changing sizes and growing like weeds.....definately helps with the clothing budget!!!
-
I do shop at the thrift store.
-

Yes, i do shop at thrift stores but not as often as i would like i really wish i had more patience when it comes down to shopping in thrift stores i know they have great deals.
-

I LOVE Dollar Tree! Unfortunately, we do not have one in my small town-- the closest is 70 miles away.

Yes, I do. I will give you a good reason why. I once purchased a new but missing minor parts name brand floor vacuum cleaner. I bought it for 20.00. I contacted the company about getting the minor parts ( attachment brushes ) I needed and not only did I get the parts needed for free, there was a 20.00 rebate on those type cleaners. I told them I bought it at a thrift store and they said that did not matter. Just had to send a copy of my receipt and within 4 weeks I got the parts needed and a 20.00 check. This also happen to me on a keyboard which was missing the power adapter. Called the company and they sent me the adapter for free. I visit this store at least once a month.
-
all of the time :icon_rr: and I donate often as well. Plus goodwill is the only place you can buy things like vhs tapes, vcr's, records, cassette tapes, regular cube shaped tv's (not flat screen plasma or led) .... yes i actually like the floor model tv's better, you can't put plants on a flat screen :icon_rr:
-
I do shop at thrift stores. You can find some good quality stuff at good prices, and often end up supporting a worthy charity. Of course there is lots of junk that you have to sort through in order to find the great deal. Anyone who bases their human value on where they shop should probably take a hard look at their value system.
-
Thrift store shopping is a win/win for everyone. You can get great deals at them, and the store organization gets income to help people in need. They also provide employment opportunities.
-
Once in a while when we are out of town will go to the goodwill and a couple of other shops. Only because we don't have them where we live. Sometimes you can get really good buys. Even still have the price tags on them. As for the dollar tree. I shopped there a lot where we use to live and worked as a merchindizer for american greeting cards there. They do have some good buys and i still will go once in a while for items for my crafts and of course while i am there always pick up other items. Hay when you can save money now a days we need too. After all the obamas need money to go on their trips.
-
i don't shop at thrift stores but, i do give alot of things i think other people can use, so far i have giving thousand of items and plan on giving more.
-
I worked at a thrift store, and believe me you can find some very good deals there, and also brand name clothing. I think thrift stores are a blessing, especially in these times.
-
Yes I do. Nothing wrong with thrift stores you can save alot.
-
I do I love finding a great bargin it's like a hobbie for me
-
The thrift store has great finds.
If you get lucky, you can get a name brand item for a lot cheaper than what you would pay at retail and in good condition too!!
-
I haven't in a very long time. When I was growing up my mom used to take us sometimes. My mom & I have both been thinking about checking out our local stores to see what's there but neither of us have got around to it or just don't have the money to spare since things have gotten extremely tight for both of us. :-
-
I shop at the thrift store.I shop at goodwill and salvation army. Goodwill sends 25% off coupon around your bday if you sign up for th.eir savings card
-
I don't think I have ever been in a thrift store. I do donate though.
-
Heck yes I love it. I find some amazing stuff at those places my fave closed down in the past month SAD face
-
I sometimes shop at thrift stores, they sometimes have good stuff.
-
Yes, I do shop at thrift stores. You can find a lot of nice things there. I have not been lately. You can get great buys in thrift stores.
-
Sometimes. In today's economy it's one way of saving $$$$$.
-
Yes I shop at thrift store. Some time you can fine item with the tag on them. I love thrift stores.
-
I've gotten a T-shirt & sweater for $10 total from Plato's Closet, which is basically a thrift store.
