Title: Electronic cigarettes.
Post by: hudsonmike09 on April 27, 2013, 08:10:22 pm
I recently started using  an electronic cigarette to cut down on the real ones. It's been working pretty well, I've gone from about 2 packs a day to less than half a pack a day. I know it's kind of like trading a crutch for a cane, but at least it's a start. It's also a lot cheaper.

I've seen the advertisements, what exactly is an electronic cigarette. Does it still have nicotin?

I tried one of those for a while.  It helped cut back, but I never bought the refill.

There are several different types. I'm using the kind that you can refill. Basically it's an atomizer attached to a rechargeable battery. the battery heats the elements in the atomizer and creates a vapor from the liquid. You can get the liquid with different strengths of nicotine.

I've seen ads for E-cigs on some of the PTC sites I participate in.  I often wondered if they actually worked/helped or not.  Thanks for the info.

I have tried the electronic cigarettes. I suppose I didn't get a strong enough concentration of nicotine because I started craving the real cigarettes. The electronic ones are great though. You do save a lot of money with them and you don't smell bad. Plus you can smoke them anywhere because they are not real cigarettes. Blu cigarettes has a website where you can sign up and get reward points so you can get a discount or free items. It's a good thing to look into!

Just a little update. It's been almost two weeks since I started this thread and things are going pretty well. I was holding steady at about half a pack of real cigs a day But I have only had three today and it's almost bedtime now so I don't think i'll smoke another one tonight. Thank you all for your interest and support. :D

Well done! From 2 packs a day to only 3 cigarettes!!!! I'm also on the electronic cigs and it's okay, but I don't really like the taste. It did make me cut back, so I suppose it is worth it. I used to smoke about 15 cigs a day and am now down to 5.

Congratulations! I had very good success with the ecigs. Sadly I have a  :BangHead: feeling about myself, because when we moved last time I was out of refills, so I started buying regular cigarettes again. Just like that, I was hooked again.

But, this month my husband and I are going to start using the ecigs again.

I agree and people can actually stand to be around those better than a real sig.  I don't smoke but my step daughter uses one of those and it doesn't bother me.  Good luck with it all!

I first tried the e cig because I was tired of having to go out in the winter weather to smoke at work!   That was Feb. 2012!  I have never touched another cigarette since!   I just found I prefer it!

I don't smoke cigarettes. I think it's a disgusting habit and all the ads they show about smoking cigarettes make them even less appealing to me.

I haven't smoked a real cigarette since November using an ecig.  I use the Nic Maxx.  I have tried the Vcigs but can't find a flavor I like from them.  They are cheaper if you buy online from them in bulk though.

Good for you ... I have been using an electronic cigarette for over a year and I love it.

After the 4th month of using it ... I was down to smoking only 2-3 real cigarettes a week.

Since January 2013 ... I have not had any real cigarettes and have no desire to have one.

My theory is that I didn't quit smoking ... I quit tobacco

Best of luck

The big deal is the elimination of the tars and noxious gases that ruin your lungs and cause more medical problems than can be counted! You get a shot of nicotine, which by the research I can find is really not harmful but is still likely the most addictive substance known.

Everthing I see seems to indicate that these are a great subsitute for smokers as they do help one get rid of the toxic aspects of smoking on a personal level, and keep the nastiness out of other peoples lives as well.

I have no idea if they are cost effective in their use compared to the cost of cigarettes, I cant imagine them being more expensive!

I applaud those that have been using these and hope that they help you get rid of the habit completely. Even if you keep using them, thanks for not smoking!!
 ;D

I have an electronic cigarette in front of me, which I confiscated from my son and girlfriend, and am reading it where it says it is equal to about 2 packs of cigarettes.  It also has 1.8% nicotine which it states is very addictive and habit forming.  I don't think this brand (OneJoy) is recommended for quitting smoking, because of the nicotine.  The ones with vapor are the ones to help quit smoking.  I wonder how destructive these cigarettes are to our bodiesl

I have tried all different ones out there but I still smoke cigarettes, but I have never gone over a pk a day been smoking for 30 yrs. now or more but the last electronic cig. was the blu and that seems to last the longest out of all that I tried and I enjoyed that one but I need something else to make me quit smoking the real cigarettes. I need to get hypnotized I hear that works.

I never got around to trying electronic cigarettes even though I really wanted to. I've been able to stop smoking for about 8 months now and it had alot to do with not putting myself in situations where I was likely to smoke. Basically became a recluse for a little while but it helped in the long run. I have one maybe once every couple months and the desire has never came back after.

I quit for 4 months the last time i switched to ECigs then lost it and instantly bought a pack. My favorite kind is the Volcano Inferno E-cig. A months worth of nicotine is around $7-15. Your nicotine in the ecig will last 1-3days and the batteries last way longer than other brands.

I've heard that the liquid in the ecigs is the same stuff that they use in breathing treatments, except for the nicotine and flavoring. I don't know if that's true or not. The ingredients are polypropylene glycol, vegetable glycol, water, flavoring and nicotine.I just read that from the bottle.

I'm smoking one  rite now.... So far its not working for me since i rather just go outside and smoke a real cig..... ehhh I mean its not bad.... its OK. but I can taste the plastic a little bit when i smoke it. I do like how it lights up (I got the BLU, its kinda pretty, when u inhale it the tip lights up blue) and its doesn't burn or get hot so it's a lot safer.  I was told i need to try diff flavors. we shall see....

Hypnosis did work for me for 5 years but then I started smoking again.  I later tried several hypnotists and it didn't work again.  I'm 5 months smoke free with the ecig.

I've been on the e-cig for about a month now and I'm holding steady at 3 to five real cigarettes a day. The hardest ones to let go of are the ones I crave first thing in the morning and after meals. I think if I can get over those humps I'll have it whipped. Then I  can start cutting back on the strength of the nicotine in the e-liquid i'm using. Thank you all again for your thoughts and encouragement.

I was wondering if they are smokeless and if they directly affect other people like regular cigs do. Do they last a long time without breaking down? I bet they are helpful in or near work campuses that do not allow smoking.

Not sure what pries are where you live, but the last 4 months of my wife`s life we spent an average of $600 a month on the cheapest ones we could find which is over twice as much as we were spending on regular cigarettes before

My husband and I bought the disposable e cigarettes to try them out. We bought a cheap one at first just to kind of get an idea about them and my husband hated it, said it made his throat hurt. So I got the Blu disposables which were alot better. We have cut down some but not as much as I hoped. I just need to stick with it and hopefully eventually be done with cigs for good.

One of my co-workers started using one of them and she said that she can taste a bit of a difference if it's a menthol cigarette, but there isn't much difference with a normal one.  I figure whatever helps people quit or helps them be healthier is a step in the right direction.
