My current cat isn't bad about papers.  Her thing is plastic bags.  She licks them, bats at them so they make noise, drags them down off the counter where I store them, and sometimes goes running through the house carrying them on her mouth.  They really fascinate her for some reason.

My cat also licks them, like in a crazy kind of way! I read that there is animal fats rendered in the plastic and this possibly that is what the cats are picking up on.

All cat's do this to various degrees. It's they way of saying, "Yes, we are needy as Dog's"; just not willing to admidt it. It is also the reason if a cat bonds with a child under 3yrs old, when the child begins to be mobile, that it will get into more trouble than the average child - mostly due to their devious partner in crime.

I had a cat who loved magazines, not so much paper, but the texture of magazines.  Although, one time now this was years ago when we got paychecks, remember those days?  Anyway I had my check laying on the table and I was going to go to the bank to cash it, but I never got the chance.  She ate 3/4 of it!  I had to take the remaining 1/4 to payroll dept. the next day so they could issue me another check.   :BangHead:

He tries to lay on ours, but he gets yelled at for that one. usually he just jumps in our laps, and stands there until we pet him.

I have not had a cat for years....my current landlord not pet friendly.....I use to have a cat my son names Bob...it was a girl, she was a big yellow and white cat with a bob tail....the dogs in the area were afraid of bob she could beat'em  she was a good cat....on evening about five dogs trapped her under the house and killed her....if they had attacked her in the open she could have defended herself and got in the house.....I have not had a cat since....

My two cats are brother and sister but they are so different in their personalities. She enjoys the outdoors, brother on the other hand likes to stay inside. They even have various places to lay, never lying in the same place. They are truly a part of our family, always bringing a smile to our faces.  :cat:

My cats make sure I know they are around, especially my oldest boy.  When I am typing on a keyboard he will come and literally pull my hand away - letting me know - hey, it's time to pet me!!!!!  If I don't pay attention to him, he doesn't stop!!!  It's just their way of saying pay attention to me!!!!

Haha...My cat is similar. Whenever my nieces do home work and their papers are spread all over the table, my cat lays right on top of their stuff. I think my cat just likes chaos, LOL...Because whenever I'm sorting though papers or cleaning up, she lays right in the middle.

I wasn't aware of that.  If that's the case, then that explains a lot.  Part of the reason I don't want her messing with them is because I don't know exactly what's in them.  I've tried using reusable bags more, but I think that just makes her more determined to get at the plastic ones that are left.

My cat, Smokey, LOVES papers, paper bags, plastic bags, and boxes.  I call him "The Garbage Man," LOL.  When we shop, as I'm putting away all the groceries I throw the plastic bags in a pile on the floor.  Smokey makes himself right at home in the pile of bags.  If there's a box available, it doesn't matter how big or small that box is, he's cramming his entire being in to it and will go to sleep.

Is your cat screaming because he's in pain, or is he just bored and needs some entertainment?

I think cats teach other to do this to their humans -- walk on papers and books.  Our cats do it, too.  "No!  You shall not read, you shall adore me!"

Here is an image of a 15th century manuscript which shows cat paws on it.  Apparently, this author had a similar problem with his cat.   :cat:

My current cat is a calico.  And it is so funny.  If I start to pack a suitcase, my kitty will crawl into the luggage and lay on the clothes.  Also, she is a persistent meower - loves to talk. LOL.  I even have to be with her when she is eating.  If I leave, she stops eating almost immediately, even if she is hungry.  She then meows for me to go back to keep her company while she eats.  She does this to me when she wants to sleep.  She cannot stand sleeping alone.  If she wants to sleep, I must also.

Yes. My cat will lay on my papers, computer, beside my computer.

I remember when he started playing with the straw in my drink. He will also play with the pencil or pen that I try to write with.

Recently, he walked across my keyboard and it took me a couple of minutes to get back to the right screen. I was a little upset that day because I was afraid he did something to my laptop. Luckily he didn't.

Cats definitely let you know when they want attention.  Our cat Sweetie is pretty laid back though.  She usually just hangs out in her rocking chair in our living room.

I've only had a cat as my pet once in my lifetime.  It thought cats were such cute pets, until my cat became fascinated with my sofa.  I purchase all types of cat toys and cat food to distract my cat from my sofa.  Nothing worked!  The cat began clawing my sofa.  My sofa was torn and natty.  Then my cat brought dead rats into the house and began hiding them under the sofa.  What was it with my sofa?  Afterwards, large snakes came into the house to eat the dead mice under the sofa.  Then the snakes migrated to my two small children's bedrooms.  Now, my house was infiltrated with large snakes in the walls, under my sofa, under the foundation of the house, and of course, under the sofa.  I had to get rid of my cat, the sofa, and the snakes.

My 18 volunteers with a rescue cat group. She told me that yesterday they climbed up the back of her pants leg. Also that they have a fetish for her shoe laces and keys. Cats love anything soft and that makes noise. :cat: :cat:

Right now I have four cats, but they're not my first kitties.  My first cat was very polite and would walk around my papers, even if I was sorting them into piles all over the floor.  He'd carefully walk between them.  My current kitties are oblivious to such thinking.  In fact I have one who will sit on my closed laptop if I don't watch out.  They all have their individual ways of being with me or getting my attention.  Magic likes to rub himself on my feet or get me to massage him with my foot, but shies away from mushy hugs and kisses.  His brother likes to cuddle and goes under my covers at night.  My siamese brother and sister like to lay on my hip when I sleep on my side.  Sweetie comes to me when I go to bed wanting to be petted and rubbed, a lot.  Her brother will pin me down by settling on or between my legs, as soon as I crawl in, before I get settled.  He's also very fond of working with his paws and will push things, like my coaster, off tables.  I could go on, they're such characters.   :cat: :cat: :cat: :cat:

My cat loves boxes, always trying to curl up in one whenever he finds one open. About a year ago, we had purchased new karaoke equipment (new speakers, soundboard, stands, etc.) all of which came in fairly large boxes. The next day when I came home from work, I found that my cat had created his own "club house" with those boxes... Not only was he camped out in there, but he had also dragged his toys (which I've never really seen him play with), his blanket, and one of my socks (don't know why only one sock -- perhaps it has my odor on it?) in his little fort.

My best friend also has cats that are fascinated by boxes.... A few weeks ago, she was trying to pack some jars of homemade applesauce to ship to a friend that lives out of state, and one of her cats curled up in the USPS box she had been trying to pack. My friend took a picture and e-mailed her friend saying "If it fits, it ships. Sorry about not sending any applesauce, but I hope you like your new friend!" (No, she didn't actually ship the cat... Although her friend did reply after the package arrived mentioning something about being disappointed that they couldn't meet the little critter.)

Yes.  Cats are like that.  My daughter's cat lays on her laptop.  My cat jumps on my recliner and lays between my legs when I'm on my computer.  They just like a lot of attention.
