Title: HOrrible allergies!
Post by: anotherlaujgirl on May 09, 2013, 06:44:57 pm

SO i've had these horrible allergies for over a month.

How in the world do I get rid of them?

Allergy Meds haven't helped out much.

-_____-

I've been taking 2 hour exams and i'm not allowed to leave the room.

It's been horrible. I can't really blow my nose or sneeze without making noise.

Yesterday the allergen count was 10 times what it was last year in IL. It felt like someone had sprayed me with mace!

I have had colds and allergies since almost the beginning of this year.  I had an MRI done recently and the images showed my sinuses being swollen. My nose has been running like a faucet.  Allergy meds have not been very useful in stopping my runny nose.  I have even tried sinus medications and they too have been unsuccessful.  I do wish it would stop.

I have allergies to dust and pollen it is horrible! What I do is stay away from those items. When there is a lot pollen around in the spring and in the fall I wash my face and hands whenever I am exposed to it. If I  go outside for any reason when I come in I wash them immediately and if I am out I use the ladies room to do it. You sneeze a lot when it stays on your skin or when it is caught in your ears or nose hair. Pay special attention to those areas and gargle a lot with some type of antiseptic mouth wash. This is how I get some relief and I take allergy medication if it really gets awful. I hope you feel better soon.  :)

I know it is not easy to get rid of allergies. I have them and my eyes get most effected with allergies. I usually do not take any allergy medication. I do take Advil cold and sinus. That seems to help me a bit. I have never tried Advil's allergy yet.

I haven't had a bad allergy attack since 3-4 year (when I was in High School)... Maybe because I stay at school most of my time in an AC room working at my circuits course... If I have to deal with allergies, I wouldn't go out on the first week of real spring (meaning nice sunny days after the cold temperature recede) and only go out at a rainyday or nighttime... Never go out in a sunny day after rain because thats when the pollen goes crazy

I can sympathize. Both my husband and i suffer with allergies. I wish I could help you out but I haven't found a cure. Claraton allergy meds ( or the generic ) work the best without making us sleepy but nothing works entirely when the pollen is this bad.

Some locations announce on the weather what the allergy forecast is.  THat might help you prepare ahead of time.
Good luck on your tests.

Allergies are getting worse every year due to the high pollen count and weather changes.

I wish i could tell you there was a sure cure, but there is not. Try to stay away from the worst offenders if you can. I do take a shot every couple of months and it helps but not a lot. I cannot take the otc meds of anykind anymore. I love it when it rains and clears out ome of the dust. And it is bad this year because we are so dry. Once all the trees get bloomed out it is not quite so bad and then along come the weeds. Can't win.

My allergies are pretty bad this year too.  We just had rain this week and it's sooooo much better, but I was pretty miserable earlier in the week.  I know I have pollen allergies, so if it's spring allergies - the good news is they should be decreasing shortly as the grasses get to normal growth, and leaves are on the trees vs buds...and those flowering trees drop their flowers.

I found when searching for OTC medicines - to lessen your waste of time, pay attention to the active ingredients of the different medicines.  There are few popular active ingredient combinations used.  If the product you chose does absolutely nothing for you - then as you research other brands, do not choose another brand that uses the same active ingredients - as the result will be the same - it won't work.  Instead, choose a product with different active ingredients and see how you respond to that one.

If you find one that sort of works, then you'll know some of the active ingredients that work for you.  Try others with similar ones that may have them in different ratios until you find the one that works the best for you.

In my case, I respond best to Allerest or Sudafed PE; but Claritin does absolutely nothing for me.

All depends on how your body chemistry is reacting to the incoming allergen as to which meds will work best for you.

If you cannot find any OTC medicines that work, then you may need to go see a specialist to get tested and prescribed something to relieve your allergies if they are more than you can cope with.

Claritol has worked for me in the past.  Sorry to hear that you are suffering from allergies. I guess from now till August is when my allergies hit the worst. Rainy season hits, trees/flowers start to polinate and the air is filled with all kinds of things that mess my head up big time! It gets to the point where I just want to go to bed for relief...which isn't really an option.  The work environment isn't much better. Every day at precisely two thirty everyone in the office starts sneezing. The air cycle must kick in and everything that has built up in the ducts must flow through the air to cause this massive sneeze-a-thon!

I have the bad allergies too. I take Singulair every night as one of my perscriptions. But I also have a stash of cough drops and throat drops with me all the time. And when I really have the time I make a cup of hot tea and honey. It helps with the throat and nose.

Take vitamin C!...My sister has bad allergies and she said it helped her a lot. So if you suffer from allergies you should take Vitamin C all the time, so when allergy season comes around you wont be affected.

Tell me about it, pretty much all April allergies have devastated me. There was one remedy in particular I tried, which was a Neti Pot. It was weird to use, but it definitely cleared my allergies for a day or two. The allergies came back for one more day, and then I haven't had any problems since. Not sure if its the Neti Pot, or they season dying down.

Not sure if it'll help, but hey! No negative consequences, right? I'll try to remember to try it out.

I totally hear ya!!!!!

I can't have any windows open!!

I can't go outside... and if I do I have to make sure my skin is either totally covered... or I have lotion on every part of skin that is exposed to the air...

I use nose spray, eye drops, zrytec, clariten, benedryl inhalers steriod cream omgosh... and I still cant control it...

I am so allergic to grass, weeds, pollen, dust, etc, etc, etc... lol

As others have said.  I have to wash off continually if I am exposed... And Change Clothes.  That is a big thing.  If I sit on the furniture after being outside.. I will transfer that to the furniture.  I change several times a day... if I go out.

Total craziness.....

Cover up, Wash, Lotion (plug pores and hydrate) meds, nose spray, cough drops for throat, shower, keep baby wipes handy... to wipe off.

We live where there is always wind blowing... so it heightens all allergens.

Good luck... I feel your pain.

I have allergies especially at this time of year that really set off my asthma--I have prescriptions for that.  As for over the counter stuff for stuffy head, etc.  Claritin D has worked best for me.  But check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking anything!

Sadly you will not "get rid of them" until the allergy season is over!!!  The best remedy is a netty pot and saline nose spray!!!
