What is the best coverage/story that you have read/seen on the IRS Scandal? I have only read a few articles from the whole political spectrum, but I was a little surprised by the piece on Politico about Washington turning on the president.

I've read a lot of stories on this scandal. I think the part I like BEST is how the main stream media is starting to wake up to the facts of ALL the scandals that are going on right now, and how they're figuring out that not even they are safe anymore. That'll learn 'em, dearn 'em!
-
Just more of the democrats bs that has been going on. Maybe the mainstream media will wake up one of hese days go to reporting all the facts instead of just what they are told. All of the scandals are comming back to haunt someone.

I have no clue as to what it is all about. :confused1: :dontknow:

Basically it came out that the IRS was targeting conservative groups for special scrutiny during the last presidential election. Now there are going to be congressional hearings on the issue and President Obama is calling for those responsible to be fired. Already, the chief tax adviser at the IRS has been fired over the scandal. Here is an article from Reuters that talks about it:

i don't get what is so wrong with the irs looking more closely at groups whose main belief is they should not have to pay taxes. the government looks at terror groups who want to kill people, police look into gangs who want to commit crimes, there is nothing wrong with looking into any group who say if they could they would break the law. also how can anyone say this political when the woman who was in charge is a republican appointed by george bush. if your job is to enforce the law it is easier to do that by looking it the people who say they want to break it.

This line of thinking scares me to death! Maybe this is due to lack of knowledge of just what has happened here. This is NOT a case of people trying to avoid paying taxes unduly. This is a case of the administration using the power of a government agency to persecute those groups and INDIVIDUALS they deem to be enemies. In this case denying the groups the exact same rights and privileges afforded to EVERYONE for the sole purpose of denying them the ability to exist as an effective organization. Further they have persecuted INDIVIDUALS that were/are deemed as enemies. At the same time those individuals and groups seen as friendly to the administration were basically being free passes to do the exact same things being denied.
Regardless of ones political views, this is just plain wrong, and criminal in intent and action. This cannot be tolerated in a free society. If you see nothing amiss here, imagine that this were being done by the politial powers that you do not care for, and the target of this evil was YOU!! This type of activity has been demonstrated through out history to be the first steps of tyranical governments.
This is not a minor matter, and in no way can be justified or defended. The damages done here already are horrendous. Some specualte that this may have effected the most recent election outcome, but that is really just speculation, however the fact that it is even possible that could be the case should chill you to the bones.
WE should all be afraid, very afraid.[color=red

i think you may have your tinfoil hat on a little to tight. i am more afraid of all these right-wing groups that are trying to sign up for tax exemption just so the can try buy the election or scare people away form voting. do you not care there are hundreds of these groups who all share the same address and we don't know who is funding them? your dislike the president is keep you from seeing is the groups themselves, not the one irs office that give their application a second look. that is the only thing anyone did wrong was to look at the application of rightwing groups a second time, no one was even denied. somewhere in a deep dark corner of hell joe mcarthy is just laughing his *bleep* off
-
If you check the facts of history, you might discover that although McArthy was very flawed in a lot of ways, he was RIGHT concerning his focus of communitsts becoming entrenched in our federal government.
I have no fear whatsoever of any group or groups organizing and being politically active. That includes them all from Black Panthers to white extremists like the KKK or extreme religious zealots of any stripe. It appears that you are to one that is concerned over people that don't share your thoughts having equal rights in freedom of speech! Just what scares you about that?
Again, if you bother to check the facts, the 'liberals' have been vastly more prolific in these 'groups' than any and all conservative factions have ever thought of being. From the labor unions to demanding US Govt. funding for their pet organizations (Planned Parenthood just to name one of the hundreds) and shaking down individual donors. You care to compare the money spent by George Soros to any ten of conservative donors, be my guest.
Take the time to read up on things, you will find that that there are many different IRS offices and 6 IDENTIFIED individuals in the IRS that most likely are at some point going to be prosecuted for criminal actions. And this investigation has just begun. There will be many more evil doers exposed almost certainly. Care to make a case that Ms. Lerner is just some innocent non-activist? Take a look at her employment history of being rewarded for doing just such activism.
I am not a Republican, nor a Democrat and it makes no difference what I am politically. My comments are in regard to abuse of power and corruption at the highest levels, and sanctioned to be there by duly elected officials and appointees thereof.
My tin hat fits just dandy, obviously far better thand the rose colored glasses and blinders you are adorned with. Geeeez, there is no argument here, just facts that you can accept, deny or ignore. I wish you the best.
-
It doesn't matter who was being singled out. If this is seen as acceptable, then future administrations can single out who ever they wish.

And there is no problem with left-wing groups forming for the same reasons?

Everyday this thing grows in scope and scale. There is no one in the USA that is immune from this illegality. Those that think this is just 'innocent' or even good actions by the government are in for a rude awakening. There is NO excuse or justification for ANY administration to use and abuse the powers entrusted to them to quash or deny their political detractors.
It appears quite obvious that this is not the only case of the administrations abuse of power using federal agencies to quell the oppositon. The EPA in now in the crosshairs along with others.
I can't see even the most ardent administration apologist standing up for this criminal activity. If they want totalatarian govenrment, there are many nations that they can move to and leave the USA alone.

some of these groups, like carl rove's boost about how they were so good at bending if not breaking the rules, why shouldn't they be looked at twice? that is is all this is about, groups that said they wanted to break the rules having their applications looked at more closely. we need to get rid of 501 groups and super pacs they are destorying our electoral process.

Actually, that is not what this about. All these organizations get the second look treatment, but the length and scrutiny for right-wing groups was significantly increased. There's no justification for that. Most of them were just small community groups started by average citizens and not some elaborate attempt to buy an election.

The head of the IRS, Shulman, visited the White House 180 times during the last two years... his predecessor visited the White House ONCE during his entire stint. Hmmmm why was Shulman ever at the White House? This guy is supposed to be a manager, and should have absolutely NO part in policy making of any sort. His job is to oversee the IRS doing its job, nothing more. Yet this fellow was a constant presence in Obamas den of policy formulation. Yet our beloved President claims he had no knowledge of anything going on at the IRS... OK, then his people are the most incompetent batch of people the world has ever seen assembled in one place, especially so for White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler who has admitted to knowing of this criminal conduct practically since its first appearance. It is naïve to think that the President had no knowledge of this trash at any level. Sadly this scandal is so huge that Obama's knowing of it is almost a side issue.
Consider that the IRS singled out individuals they saw as being in opposition to Obama and his grand designs, and these same criminals are soon to be responsible for Obamacare. Pray that it never becomes known that you or a loved one has ever been tagged by the IRS as an opponent and you have to try to access the government run healthcare system... good luck!

Obviously you do not understand what the Tea Party movement is about. They are not some criminal organization trying to break any income tax laws nor are these groups even promoting tax evasion or even how to use the legal deductions to your advantage to reduce the amount of taxes you have to pay. The "Tea" in their name is an acronym for Taxed Enough Already. These organizations protest the idea that the Federal government has become so bloated in spending that it needs to continually increase tax rates in order to cover these costs. And the government spending is not just targeted towards more so called "left-wing" causes, but all areas of government; thus there are actually some left-wing people that attend Tea Party rallies to protest the expensive military spending. The organizations are trying to persuade government officials to learn to live within their means. Sure, there may be individuals within these groups that won't obey the tax laws, just as other organizations may have nut cases in their membership. Should the TSA scrutinize passengers more than the rest that are members of the Islamic Society of North America just because there may be members of that organization that are Islamic extremists that would like to see the downfall of the US and may support at least the cause of Islamic terrorism?

AND, we could make a very long list of the federal government employees that have paid no attention to paying their own taxes! Little Timmy Geitner comes to mind quite readily. Then there are the substantial number of congressional elected folks that seem to think that they are also exempt from paying taxes; should we mention Charles 'I've done nothing wrong' Rangel?
There are mobs of folks that will refuse to admit to anything that this administration does, regardless of how obvious, is wrong. Sad for them, they remind of the poor Jews of Germany that denied the workings of Hitler and his gang... that is until they were forced into the gas chambers...
