Title: Bombing Big Budget Movies
Post by: kingozzy on July 22, 2013, 07:48:25 am
After Pacific Rim bombed a while back, I thought to myself why are these big budget movies bombing so bad?  And after this weekend two other movies bombed too, Red 2 and RIPD.  Any thoughts on why?

I think sometimes the producers try too hard by having big named actors and / or CGI and special effects that it begins to hurt the story. With certain forms of entertainment, the plot / story is more important than how many big-named stars are in it or how many special effects there are.

I've not seen Pacific Rim, but maybe people thought this would be a Transformer knock off? Anyway, big budget movies even with pronounced action and A-listers do not guarantee success, especially when there is so much competition.

Personally, I can rarely afford to go to the theater to see movies.  It's easier to go to movie night at the library or borrow them there.  I did go to the early bird showing of Lone Ranger and loved it.

Maybe people are getting a bit more picky about how they spend their entertainment dollar.
