If you was selected president how would you change the economy, and why?

I am not sure that the President really has as much power to change the economy as he claims. I know he can influence people, even blackmail them, but the way our government is set up, it really isn't designed to legally grant him that power.
I recently heard a speech where someone said that our economy is going south because there are more people leaving the workforce (due to the fact that the baby boomers and subsequent generations have, as a whole, had fewer children or no children at all) and are consuming less than the generations that are in the work force and entering it. So, unless we get rid of or improve the social programs we have in place, we will continue to have these problems. Another option is to force as many as are able to continue working and not claim social security until they are no longer able to work.
This person obviously doesn't have all the answers, but the fact is that there are significantly more people taking money out of the social security and medicare pools than contributing. No president or legislator wants to pull the plug. They want to put as much as they can toward saving these (and other similar) programs.
