Do you prefer to walk or run for exercise?
-
Of the two choices...I'd rather walk.
I'm "training" for a 5k though next month, and so I've been running.
It's just too harsh on my knee when I run, so I don't enjoy it.
-
I walk a few miles most every day. Once upon a time I was a runner. But the old knees suffered a lot.
-
walking - for sure.
running is for the really young who don't have the subtle hints of old injuries creeping up when they are running
-
I love to just take walks and admire the beauty around me. If I tried running, I'd probably fall and break something!!

Oh great. Good luck to you. :notworthy:

Both. Walk to see the outdoor views and run to burn calories faster.
-
I jog a little, then walk a little, then jog a little, the walk a little. I keep this up for 2 1/2 miles every other day and it keeps me in really good shape. I don't go if it is raining or snowing, but do go even if it's really hot or really cold, so it ends up being at least 3 times a week which is enough to keep pretty fit.
-
I go to a gym and walk every other day and do the weights the others. When I walk I use the elliptical and the treadmill. I like to break it up and listen and watch tv at the same time. My 30 min. usually fly by.
-
Walk and walk. We have very good sidewalks to walk in the city where I live.
-
I prefer to ride the bike and do the stair master. If I had to pick one though I would say walk because I walk my dog often.
-
Walking, even though I know that running is better for me. Walking is of course easier!
-
Run if my knees are feeling good that day
-
We like to walk, it seems to be a little better on the body. Not as much bouncing around on the knees and such.
-
i prefer walking and I love when its in the 70's. Its perfect walking weather
-
I love walking. It's much easier on the knees and my body, also for me more relaxing. :)
-
i used to like running but now i prefer walking

-
I prefer to walk when exercising and I also like to do other exercise too. When I walk it feels so good and it is very relaxing too...I love walking when I get the chance

I walk with leslie sansone, She is great. My heart rate gets up and i feel great during the day.
-
I prefer walking
-
I love to walk and enjoy my surroundings, lately though I have been walking on my treadmill for 30 minutes or so.
-
I like to walk once in awhile. But I mostly do Tai Chi about 2x a week. Either way they both help me relax, makes me feel good and maintain my weight.
-
Me and my husband walk at night 6-7pm and its nice, relaxing and make the knees stronger.
-
I am a walker, love to walk with loved ones, enjoy the nature and ignore the real world for a few. I was interested on running for a while, but I had a doctor tell me it really isn't good for your knees ( no matter your weight). So I wont be doing any anytime soon

I prefer to walk as the fact of being an "OLD WOMAN" lol I better have a really good reason if I have to run cause my poor ole knees will decide that I am going to pay for it dearly later. I hate to just exercise. You know the kind where you sit in the floor and do sit-ups or whatever. I enjoy going for a hike and just being out in nature. I used to run 15 miles a day when I was a young girl but when I was 25 years old I was involved in a bad car wreck and it messed up my legs really bad. I now know the limits that I am able to push myself and if I over-do it then it takes me a couple of weeks before I can function half-way normal. Hiking is the way I like to exercise. :peace:
-
i prefer to walk because its easy to keep a good pace no matter how im feeling compared to running because if you feel a lil sick (running sometimes makes it worse)
-
I go for a walk every evening. It's nice to get out and enjoy the fresh air. Many years ago, I enjoyed jogging but I'm getting too old for that.
-
I love walking. Never been much of a runner. I have asthma and can't run 20 feet without having trouble breathing. I like to take my dog on long walks at least every other day.
-
I've never liked running so it's walks for me. I have always loved to walk. I can take the dog. We go almost every day.
-
def walk! :D
-
I'm a runner, have been for many years. In an average week, I probably run 3-4 times for 25-30 miles. Very rarely do I have a month go by where I run less than 100 miles. Walking is ok, but it doesn't really get my heart rate up.
-
Definitely walking!!!! While running might burn calories faster, it sure does put a lot more stress on the knee joints and you can get injured much faster and much worse!!!!
-
I prefer to run.
-
I mostly walk. I've talked to too many runners who have bad knees now. I jog a little to mix it up. A great alternative to running is to walk really, really fast.
It gets your heart rate up and is great for your blood pressure. It also helps your mood. Yay!
You lose more weight faster with running, but I don't think it's too good for your knees. Plus, you run the risk of falling. Falling can break your bones, and put you out of service altogether. I would rather not take the chance.
If you just keep moving, you're ahead of the game in many ways. So keep moving! :P

I've never been much on running, but I am thinking of trying it. I found an app called "Couch to 5K" that helps a non-runner get started. We'll see if it works.
I like riding my bike (bicycle, not motorcycle)
-
I prefer to walk. I probably would break my neck running, so walking is definitely the wiser choice. I belong to a gym and do the elliptical and the treadmill. That's enough for me. I used to walk around my neighborhood at night, but don't feel safe enough to do that anymore. :sad1:

I need to exercise. I prefer to do it when I am alone. It is bad when you are overweight, but people tend to laugh when you are trying to exercise. I used to walk a mile or more. Now I get tired when I walk, and I wouldn't run because my knees tend to hurt. It is no fun when your joints hurt and you feel a twinge if you try to even bend. Yet I will take my time and try anyway. I thank God I am not morbidly obese, like some people I know. I would be insanely happy if I could lose enough to get to 160 pounds. It would be truly wishful thinking to get back to my pre-weight size before I became pregnant, and that would be 140 pounds. I know my daughter would be happy to see me in the 100's; she has never seen me that small. ??? ??? ??? :o :o :o :o

I used to jog/walk and do some hiking. Over the years, working out from home with dvd's and tv exercise programs have yielded by far the best results in terms of weight loss.
-
I would like to run, but I can't for health reasons, but I do like to walk especially when I have someone to walk with me.
-
Walk. It's easier on the body.
-
I prefer walking because it isnt as tiring and i am able to do it for a longer period of time. Also if you have something to do later in the day you won't be as tired as if you had ran.
-
Now that I am older, I prefer walking as opposed to exercising. I used to run regularly in my younger days, but I hurt my left leg in a motorcycle accident and that kind of slowed me down.

At my age, walk. Running is so much slower since I am almost 60. I used to run the bases in softball, but that was years ago. Do still love the game, though. I just can't keep up anymore. The benches are even harder now. Walking gives you time to take in the sights.

I prefer to walk. I've heard that walking can burn just as many calories as jogging and for me it's much earlier to do than jogging which I find to be much more difficult with my lack of stamina. I can walk a lot longer than I can jog, so I find that it's better for me. When I can't walk outside I can walk inside back in forth in the hallway or basement.

Keep at it, girl. It doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks. It's YOU that's important. Slow or fast, just move.
I'll bet you will start feeling better if you do. And remember, there are always epsom salts if you get sore.

I like to walk around my neighborhood and look at the houses, their gardens, and just enjoy being outdoors!
-
Walking is one of the best exercises I've used. I agree running MAY burn more calories but I think walking keeps the body in better shape.
-
I love to walk for exercise. Somehow I find that I have a clearer mind after the walking.
-
Unless we are talking about an elderly person...I don't consider walking to be exercise. I definitely don't see how it could be compared to running.
-
I currently incorporate 30 minutes of exercise into my daily schedule. Walking is okay, and you can burn at least 200 calories during a 30 minute walk if you keep a steady pace. I prefer a light jog. It gets the heart rate going, and helps to burn more calories.
-
I love running to get a good workout in, I feel that just walking is a waste of time for me and dosnt burn a whole lot of calories..... Just my opinion though ;)
-
I prefer to hit the weights. Sadly I have been too locked up in making money to pay for an expensive family to take time out to work out. I sleep five to six hours on week days and six to seven hours on weekends and then jump into the money fray. I wake up at four fifteen, on weekdays, and walk the dogs/make kid's lunches/drive son to school/work for eight hours/pick up my son/come home/work two hours/make dinner and work another three to five hours. On Saturdays/Sundays I generally work twelve to fourteen hours around the kid's activities/housework and yardwork. Work has been slow the last week so I have some 'me' time and will hit the weights today and do some cardiovascular tomorrow.
-
Probably walk more than run....
-
In the past I always preferred walking and getting in my 10k steps per day. Well, I can't do that anymore because of joint and body pains which prevents me from walking. Now I am stuck on a stationary bike. I exercise 5 days a week for 1.5 hours a day along with free weights.
-
I actually prefer aerobics... or DVDs like p90x, etc.
-
I feel guilty, I don't do any! :-[ I do need it though.
-
Love to walk when its nice weather like not too hot not too cold.
