Title: If you had million dollars what would you do?

I would purchase a home, a car, help a few friends and work only part time. Now I know one million is not a 'gazillion' dollars, so it just goes to show a very modest home and car will suffice. With part time work I can cover my 'necessities' and be contented with an occasional overseas trip or inter-state travel.

I was so proud of her for going to college, but now she owes so much money. I'm not sure it is worth it now because she is not using what she went to school to be because of the economy.

Post by: potluck6 on October 25, 2013, 06:21:22 pm: after taxes your left with about 700,000 still good amount. i'd help my son buy a house and give some to my other kids oh already see a problem they would be jealous of who got what. I would pay off my own house and get a couple cats then again my dog would be jealous would have to get him a dog. Also news cars and a new kitchen put whatever is left in the bank fun to daydream.

Post by: inertia4 on October 26, 2013, 07:19:30 am: Well a million dollars today does not go that far. Here in NYC houses are way expensive and cars today are a lot of money. So if I were to buy a house here in NYC I would spend most of that money like somewhere in the neighborhood of 700 to 900 thousand dollars and that is going cheap. Other houses here go for well over a million. I would maybe have enough to buy a car and then I would be broke. So, if I had a million dollars, I would bank it and use the interest to help pay my bills. Other then that, nothing.

Post by: plennis on October 26, 2013, 10:27:40 am: Pay off my house and all my other bills. I have been really working on getting debt free the last 2 years, so it would mostly be the house. Put some aside for any emergencies that come up. Then help my kids, and put some money in the college funds for all 5 of the grand kids. I started accounts for each one when they were born and add to it for birthdays and Christmas. They have to many toys and clothes, so this money will be there for them when they are older for college or technical school. I set it up where they could get school money (high school trips, all of my kids went to Europe in their Senior years with school programs) any time, but they could not get it for anything else until age 25.

Than I would buy my house and the house next door. Another thing I would do get a more reliable car. Pay off my Bills, than I would help my mother with her bills and a better car.

So if I had a million id give it to animals and strangers before helping out any of my friends or family (except my mom, dad and Grandma). Matter fact I'd change my # and move to another country.

Then I would help some people I know that need help. Then I would travel a little here and there. And then just sit back on easy street lol.

With the cost of living rising every year it will take a lot of money just to be able to afford the basics. A million dollars will not go as far as it did years ago.

Post by: demaina on October 27, 2013, 12:45:05 am: Probably most if not all of it would go into credit unions in $90,000 increments so that it's covered if the bank is robbed or something. I would probably go out and buy a decent smartphone cause the one I currently have works only like 2% of the time, which is fine currently but I'd love to be able to make a phone call whenever I want to, not if the phone will let me.

If I find a job, I might use some of the money to get an apartment/house/condo closer to the job, but that depends on the location and if my parents don't need me any more.

Then I would pay off all my bills, buy a small home, set aside a fund for college for my son and then I would help a friend. It is fun to day dream. Maybe someday it will happen, but until then I'll have fun dreaming.

I would follow suit on a lot of what the other posts have said. I would take care of my children's college-first and foremost which I am estimating to be around three hundred thousand dollars. I wouldn't pay off my house because I would need the tax break and my interest rate is pretty darn low. I would three hundred and fifty thousand dollars (invest half of the remaining seven hundred thousand dollars) in a slightly aggressive investment, two hundred and fifty thousand dollars in a conservative investment and keep one hundred thousand in liquid investments.

Post by: Mirages on November 04, 2013, 05:20:04 pm: I would make sure my baby girl and baby boy would be ok in the future and I wouldn't let them waste the money they would not be able to have it until they was 30 yrs old, I seen kids waste money like crazy and by the time they finish a trade school they could have a little money save up for a good life. I also would give some to my boyfriends 2 boys cause I already feel like they are my boys. The rest Get out of debt and get me a nice house so all my kids always have a place to come home too. :D

This way they would still work but yet not struggle. I would also donate to charity, Make a Wish foundation would be at the top of the list I think.

By the time I paid off my house, my car and other debt that I had, I would have enough money to do some traveling, buy a place up north (Michigan) and be able to take some time off of work and not have to worry about whether it's paid or not. I would love to take my kids to places they haven't been yet!
I'd probably buy a boat too!

Use some for necessities, invest part of it and bank the rest in hopes of gaining some interest to live off of instead of blowing it all on useless stuff!

I think better questions are not what you would do if you won a million dollars received a gift, windfall or whatever. But, how well do you manage your present income, Do you live within your means? Are you self-sustaining? Have you embraced a savings habit? Etc ... Over our lifetime we may make hundreds, thousands and millions ... It then becomes a question of, How well do we use the money that comes to us? My answer to the Million Dollar question would be similar to others. But rather than playing the lottery or waiting for my ship to come in, I will learn to do better with what I have. GOD Bless! :peace: :thumbsup: :wave:

I would get a nicer version of a few essential things (TV, car, etc.) and be able to travel better and more often. I certainly wouldn't go on a spending spree; I'd try to make it last as long as possible.

Myself I would have a monthly payment of what i live off of now. Which means it would last about 34 years. I give 10% of my monthly wage to charity now so why change it. My parents didn't help me with schooling so i would help my son.
