Do you think you are paying too much for property tax?!
We are thinking to buy a home, and it seems like everything we like all has high property tax in NY!! :(
-
Uh yeah. But it is better than paying rent. If you buy one day it will be yours. And if you rent you have to ask somebody else what you are allowed to do. If you own you can decide for yourself what color to paint the walls and if you want pets. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thanks countrygirl12!! That's exactly what we are thinking!! Put the money into our "own" house instead of someone else's property!!

The house I am living in with 13.50 acres and this year they are $214.00 which isn't bad but when you only have $710.00 a month to work with that is a lot. This house is suppose to be mine, but my mom and my stepdad decided to get a loan against it (this is after my mother transferred it to my aunt so my stepdad couldn't use it over my head and I would never be in jeopardy of loosing it) I have always paid the property taxes on the house, but since they got the loan they had to carry insurance on it so that it gets paid for, well they want me to pay that as well. I couldn't afford the rent (there mortgage) so I get section 8 housing which is called HUD they pay $300 and I am suppose to pay $100, which they told me I didn't have to because it was there loan and the HUD was suppose to help my parents out. Now they are trying to make me feel guilty but I don't because the agreement was they would never get a loan against it. They lied to me for over 21 years now I am trying to get a loan to buy it and it would be mine and no one can tell me what to do.

We pay over $2,000 for 33 acres with a $150,000 home and $20,000 garage on it.
I work for a municipality that has the most severely distressed TIF in the state of WI and our mill rate is one of the highest in the state. The mill rate is around $40 per $1,000 value.
Very hard.

I'm in WI too, and from what I hear, WI has one of the higher property taxes of the states (lucky me). But with the rent hikes that were going into effect, it was the right time for me to buy.
Good to know you are thinking about the property tax portion of your house payment. That's one thing I learned when I was in the market for the first time, that many friends I knew has "sticker shock" after hearing all the "deals" you get on your mortgage. Yes, that payment may rival the rent amount, but then you need to tack on extra for escrow to cover insurance and taxes. As long as you are planning for those, you should be good to go.
-
What I like best about Property Taxes is that the money to pay for them comes out of my escrow account so I don't have to come up with any money!!!
-
mine is part of the mortgage payment so it's in escrow also the insurance on the house is included .much easier that way but still high about 1900.00.

I resent having to property taxes every year when we already own our house. But as always with the govenment they will tax us on everything they can and now being forced to buy into an insurance plan that we all know is just not going to work. This is almost the last straw. Lordy the taxpayers are supporting almost half the nation hat is not willing to work and live free off the rest of those that work. What a mess our country is in.
-
I dont think that ours is that high but I live in Wisconsin and not NY. Good Luck deciding!

Taxes, taxes and more taxes!
-
I pay about $1600 and I don't have no where near 33 acres, let alone one-third of that. :o It's the way of life if you want to be a homeowner in California.
-
Yes, but at least it belongs to me and not someone else so I look at it as an investment and given the high prices of rent these days it is better to pay a mortgage!
-
Yes I do think that property tax is too much. I'm fortunate that I only have to pay county taxes. I live just outside the city. If I had to pay both city and county, I don't know what I would do.

I Used To Live Up State CT. Taxes Were 4000 a year for My House. Now In Missouri, The Taxes Are Less Than 1000 A Year :peace:

My property taxes are very high and it is a part of my mortgage. But when taxes increase so does my mortgage. Renting is the worst way to live. You are paying huge for rent, yet you can't paint the walls and you have to put up with all the noise from other asses who live in the building. Also the rent is usually so high and they can increase every year you sign your lease. In other words you aren't getting anything back for paying all the rent but the Landlord does.

So you want to get a loan to pay off their loan and get it in your name? And I am curious as to where you live to have taxes that cheap. I have less than an acre and my taxes are almost $1000.
