???Is microwave safe to use? My wife has one. I don't use at all. I also encourage her not to use it as much. I was told once that the heat is not natural. It's radiation. That causes a phobia. Any restaurant that uses microwave to cook, I tend to stay away from them. I prefer to use the oven to cook my meal.

Microwave are non-ionizing radiation... Electromagnetic radiation that agitates the food particles and cooks them.... Meaning it contains low levels of energy that doesn't directly damage DNA... Technically TV (modern, not back then it the olden days), computer screens, and cell phones produce low level radiations... Although it's below gov't standard it still produces some.
It is safe to use a microwave a few times, but of course not daily... Just stay away from using plastic or styrofoam since it will fuse with the food or such

Microwaves are fine for quick heating of food, not for major cooking. If you wanted something to cook then a convection oven would do the trick. I use a microwave once in a while.
-
We use ours mainly to heat water, bake potatoes.
-
Look, all the statistics or research says that Microwave is bad for your health, but I still use it for convience. I hope that they make a new product that will be more healthy for people on the run.
-
I don't like the taste of food heated in a microwave, so I tend to use the oven, even if it is time consuming.
-
It's mainly used to heat up foods, not cooking.

Technically speaking, the heat coming from an open flame or from an electric flat top stove is also radiation. People, generally speaking, are probably more at risk from radiation from the sun, tv's, computers, cell phones than they are from a microwave.
As long as one stays the proper distance from a microwave, and heats food per recommended directions, you'll be fine.
One common thing most people forget when heating/cooking things in a microwave, is the appliance is designed to excite the water particles inside the food being heated/cooked. If the food has low water content, you need to add some water to the dish to allow for proper heating. Often that is why re-heated food doesn't taste as well, as the food is too dry when heated. Next time try adding about a tablespoon of water when heating - it'll probably do a better job.

you sound like my mother..she hated microwaves, but I use mine like crazy to defrost and warm up plates
-
I never use my microwave to cook, only to heat food which is quite often. My personal opinion is, it can't be much more harmful than a lot of the other products we use in our everyday lives. :dontknow:
-
I use microwave to warm things up, but not sure if it's safe!! :(
-
Not sure how safe it is, but I use mine regularly. I try to not use it daily, though.
-
People keep saying it's unsafe but i'm pretty sure that if there was sufficient evidence that microwaves weren't safe, then they would surely be banned.
-
I use them all the time. I'm not too worried about it. I do try to stay back a bit while it is on.
-
Microwaves are not safe no matter what, but it does not mean you should not use it for your own needs it takes forever for some symptoms to react to your body so the choice is yours to use it or not.
-
I heard all those beliefs r myths... I read that it heats up water molecules or something? idk I think its safe though, maybe more than stove cus the stove has the gas if its not electric
-
I use mine all the time to warm a quick meal.
-
I use my microwave for popcorn or heating food only. I limit myself on using it.
-
As yet there are no standards for claims such as "microwave safe"; if you are in doubt as to the safety of such materials contact the manufacturer or use a ceramic/glass alternative.
-
I don't use the microwave anymore. The food just does not taste good. I use the convection oven for reheating purposes
-
It must be safe since stores have been selling them for years.
-
All I can say is WOW! I never thought that a microwave can be this harmful to your health. Thanks for the 411. Now I am getting phobia maniac if that's even a term for it because I heat up my left overs every day in one. Does that mean I will eventually have cancer??? I am now well aware and very scared!
-
we use ours mainly to warm things up. Try not to make tea in the water will wear out the inside of it and it will start to peel.
-
instead of freaking out about the microwave you should really freak out about what you are putting into the microwave namely the ingredients in your food. if you look at a package and you dont understand what the ingredients are in the item they are probably not he best for you

:bunny: I haven't had a microwave in about a year now because my hubby passed away and ours quit working and because of the loss in income I wasn't able to run out and buy one and except for microwave popcorn I don't really miss it.
-
I use mine often. We would be hearing warnings all the time if they were not safe to use. It s very convenient for lots o thing to make my food preparation go quicker.

I cook with my microwave all the time and hadn't had any problems yet
