Title: Hello tax season!!
Post by: kimber62372 on January 04, 2014, 12:06:06 pm
Well, it's that time of year to get your documents & deductions ready for your tax refund! Who pays a professional and who does their own? I have been doing mine and some family and friends taxes for years! I don't charge them because I love to help them as much as I can. I would love to do it professionally though and might charge real cheap like $20 for easy returns and $10 for seniors. Do you think this would fly?  ???I'm in NJ and the taxes here suck the life out of you! uugh! lol  ::)

Definitely do your own taxes because you save $$$$$ plus no one will know all your business.

My wife is a CPA and does our.

If you are good at it you could probably charge $25-$50 per return and should be able some decent money.

I'm young, don't make/spend a lot of  money, so it's best/less expensive to do it myself

Two years ago I did my taxes myself. But after getting married I paid a professional because of state tax information. Now that I understand the new forms I will probably do our taxes again this year.

For $10-20 a tax return it's not going to be worth your time. Unless you are doing stuff for family, anything under $100 would be a waste of time. Also if your planning on signing other peoples returns, you're going to need to look into being a RTRP.

I can't wait for my tax return. It is nice to get something back for the hard work you have done.

The past couple of years I've done mine using Turbo Tax, it's so much more convenient.

I typically do my own taxes using an online service.  I don't have anything too complex that I'd need assistance ... yet.

Also, as hawkeye noted above, if you are planning to start a business doing this, if you are planning to sign the forms, the IRS has certain licensing requirements you'll need to have in place before you do so.  Here's a link to a page that provides more information and resources requiring those license requirements:

http://www.irs.gov/Tax-Professionals/Frequently-Asked-Questions:-Preparer-Credentials (http://www.irs.gov/Tax-Professionals/Frequently-Asked-Questions:-Preparer-Credentials)

If you are planning to start out helping friends/relatives fill out their own taxes using software or online, where they are doing their own filing, and you are in the role of being a coach/mentor, you probably won't need the license.  However, if you accept money, you might want to have some kind of waiver/contract they sign indicating you won't be held liable for errors.

Thank you ALL! For your input -- I gave you ALL a "THANKS"!! The reason why I would charge so cheap is because I would like to pay it forward and NOT charge a ridiculous amount for something that takes me minimal time to do. One day I will hopefully get certified but until now, I just do it for others for satisfaction to help them out without signing my name to anything. Hope you all get a BIG fat REFUND from the IRS this year!!! JANUARY 13TH is when the IRS will be accepting tax returns and if you go to your states website, you may be able to file your STATE taxes for FREE like I do in NJ. Happy Tax season to ALL!  ;)

I do mine myself because I don't make a ton and it isn't really worth it to have someone else do it.  If I were to make a ton online in addition to what I make in general, I may have someone do them just to make sure I don't get in trouble, but so far I haven't had a problem figuring out the form and doing it myself.  I generally use Turbo Tax for my Federal tax form and look at what they say I should get for State and do the State form myself.

I dread it.  I work full time and have 3 small businesses I do on the side.  I have kept good records, hope I get alot back on my income tax.  Hope everyone has a good week and may God bless each of you and keep you safe.

I usually do my own because I don't have much to do. I work at a CPA firm now though so I don't know if they do taxes for us or not; I guess I should find out huh? LOL
