Title: Argument AGAINST "Jesus as a Sacrifice for Sin"
Post by: mythociate on January 06, 2014, 04:45:02 am
I know 'people often build entire doctrines off of one passage without respect to the passages that "correct" it' (like the infamous 'dashing your children on the rocks with joy'), but ... if you let ONE open your mind a little, then you can start to see some others in a new way.

What opened the mind a little for me was one of God's first covenants with man (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis%209%20/&version=KJV)---the one He STILL signs & signs-again today (although we know the "science" behind it now ... that it's an 'optical illusion,' a 'trick with light' rather than an actual "bow" in the sky).

What I'm looking at here is the reason behind the covenant, stated as such:
Quote
16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

Maybe it was some commentary I read, but I seem to remember the text saying something about 'how man is hopelessly evil and there's no changing him' (or maybe it was some commentary on 'the mark of Cain'). But still, there's the fact that God needs the signature to remind Him that He swore NOT to destroy His corrupted creation.

(Of course, that COULD be an early form of 'the Second Law of Nuclear Physics' (or is it the First? 'No matter can be created or destroyed,' only separated & combined  :glasses-nerdy: ), allowing for extinction of one species to make room for the proliferation of another.)

Anyway, you could probably give me all sorts of counter-arguments to that, and please do! Thank you! :turkey:
