DO you prefer name brand items or store brand/generic items?
-
It depends on what it is but for the most part I'm fine with store brand items. The bigger companies actually produce the generic brands so there really isn't that much difference.
-
It depends on the prices & timing to be honest because sometimes name brands are cheaper then generic and most the other time generic are cheaper then name brand & sometimes im like hell with it ill buy which ever i please lol
-
I almost always buy store brand. There are a few products that I only buy name brand, though.
-
Well, my tongue has flat taste buds, generic brands are ok for hubby and me. But, when my children growing up, they did not like generic brands and I cooked with Name brands, milk too.
-
Like most people before me...
Generic is usually fine with me.
I prefer name brand, Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing and Dannon Oikos Greek Yogurt, but other than that, I almost always buy generic.

DO you prefer name brand items or store brand/generic items?
I buy the generic names because they are cheaper. There a few products that I do like to buy the name brand. Those choices I have found by experience are really better than the generic. There even a few prescriptions that I prefer the name brand over the generic. They just work better.

It all depends... but I do like name brands over generic brands. I use generic brands sometimes because they are cheaper, and I love name brands because they taste better, good quality, and last longer
-
What ever brand gives me the best price for the product, I'll buy.
-
What I like to do is compare the labels = then make a decision which one I prefer. Sometimes there will be differences too great to choose the store brand item and other times the differences will be so minimal that I will go with the store brand.
-
It depends on the product. If the generic/store brand is just as good I will pick up that item because it will save me a few bucks. If the generic/store brand isn't as good I will spend extra money on a better product.
-
I buy both depending on the product. Mostly store brand. I am always looking for way to save and most of the time the store brand/generic is just as good in my opinion.
-
It really depends on the product. Some of the generics I like better than the the brand names. They are actually healthier sometimes.
-
It does depend on what the product is. Some Generic are ok but some things I have to get the actual named brand.
-
I try to buy generic because they're cheaper, but some brands are terrible.
-
I prefer to buy store brands as often as I can. Most of my shopping is done at Aldi so there are few things I need to pick up from other stores. Now there are some products that going generic just doesn't taste right. Oreo's for instance. Sometimes I have run across name brands costing less than store brands. Jennio turkey dogs are cheaper at our local wal-mart in comparison to fit and actives aldi turkey dogs. Household stuff though - who cares who makes the paper towels and tp?
-
generic are fine with me...read some where there are only really 6 or 7 pharmaceutical companies that make all the vitamins...but they all get sent out to different companies and have the different labels put on them...don't know how accurate that is but it makes some sense...there would be alot of small companies going broke...and I think this rule would apply to alot of other goods I purchase to....Kenmore is really Whirlpool...and alot of fancy model cars are are just dressed-up basic models...so the generic's are o.k. with me.
-
I usually just purchase what ever is cheaper. I don't really buy name brands.
-
It depends on what it is, I have tried almost all the generics, sometimes I cannot event ell the difference others it is really awful so I stick to the brand name, my girls actually tell ot do not eat the generic if is bad, that is how I know.
-
I buy both depending on what it is. Some name brands just work better (or I just think it does!).
On the flipside, some generic brands work just as good as name brands if not better, whereas some don't even come close to working as well as the name brands.
So...it just depends. I'm not locked into a decision one way or another.
-
I mostly buy store brands unless I have a really good coupon or sale on something I need.
-
I buy quite a few generic or store brands because they are cheaper but for some things I prefer the name brands.
-
I usually buy store brands, but through trial and error I have discovered on some things the name brand tastes better, so I will buy name brands for those items that I didn't care for store brands. I always will try the store brands first to see if the taste is okay, but sometimes the name brand wins.
-
Being as tight with money as I am I rarely indulge in name brands. That being said I will buy a pair of Levis every three or so years. I buy one pair of shorts every two years and usually spend two years looking for the perfect pair! I will buy Dial soap (in bulk) because I have used that brand since I was a teenager. I will only buy Ban under arm deodorant. Crest is the only toothpaste that I like to use. I only like to wash my clothes with TIDE. I will not pay more than fifty cents for a roll of two ply toilet paper or more than one dollar and ninety nine cents per pound for chicken *bleep*. I will not pay more than twenty cents for a can of soda.
-
I think that for most iteams the Name Brands and Generic/Store Brand are pretty close to the samething, but with some things the Name Brands are better then Generic/Store Brand
-
There are some things that I only use the brand name products and then there are some products that I use the generic brand.
-
use both which ever is best price
-
i use both..it really depends on the food..now for canned pinto beans i only eat luck's,not the store brand..and i will only eat duke's mayonnaise, don't like no other brand..other than those 2 not really picky on a lot of the stuff.

I go with whatever is the best
price value... There is a difference between "price" and "value" where price only factors the monetary cost while value factors in other things like quality, quantity, etc. For example, some generic items taste worse than the name brand version, so I might purchase the name brand instead because my perceived value of its taste is worth more than the amount of money I could save by going with the generic brand.
Also it isn't always true that the generic brands are cheaper... Although the name brand item may have a higher regular price, if you factor in coupons, sales, promos (eg using a shopping reward program like Ibotta), etc. the name brand may actually come out cheaper in the end. Because the name brand has a higher regular price, there is more "wiggle room" for those manufacturers to issue more coupons etc. whereas the generics are already fair low in price that they aren't able to have as many sales to discount the price even more. Some of the "Extreme Couponing" sites that I've checked out have mentioned that they hardly even buy generic items since they can get more discounts and can time them to stack on top of each other with the name brand items, which in the end saves them much more money than just buying a generic counterpart.
-
Depends what the item is. For most food products, generic is to ME the same as name brand, and usually about half the cost. For things like clothing, I usually buy name brand.
-
I live on a very strict budget and most of the time I buy the best price and most things in store brand are just as good as name brand. I always read labels too. I don't like when the number 1 ingredient is high fructose corn syrup and just about everything is. I try to avoid it. By the way, just so you know, olive oil will freeze if you put it in the fridge. If it doesn't freeze, it's not olive oil.
-
typically i am completely for the generic brand because most taste just as good if not better and they are way cheaper. however there are certain items that i have found the generic sadly lacking so i am still forced to purchase the name brand.
-
For the most part, I buy generic or store brand because they are cheaper.
But there are some items - because I developed a taste for the product and like it over all other brands and the store brand - where I stick to name brands, but try to buy those when they are on sale.
Actually, I try to buy the store brand when it's on sale too.
For prescription drugs, if generic is available, that's what I get. But when generic is not available, I have to use the brand name.

DO you prefer name brand items or store brand/generic items?
I buy mostly generic items with the exception to a few things. I have found that Crisco shortening seems to be a better product rather than the generic. I also buy pine-sol instead of the generic. Some-times you get what you pay for. It may just be me but I do have my picks on certain items while on other things like paper towels generic is fine. Heck! I don't need a paper towel that is strong enough to hold a bowling ball when wet!
-
Sometimes the generic items are just as good as the name brands so I guess it depends on what it is.
-
I prefer clothing made in the U.S.A. Some of the items you find now are so cheaply made, material so thin. It is hard to really find good clothing. Besides I am so hard to fit. I take a petite on the bottom and regular size on top. It is hard to find dresses to fit me right.
-
I usually go with generic brands, unless the cost isn't much different, or if I know I don't like certain ones. I'm a little more selective with food, than with medicine or house items.
-
I think it really depends on the individual product. I say this because if we're talking granola bars for instance, I think the store brands are as good as any branded version. However the other day I tried a store brand version of the Johnson & Johnson Head to Toe Childrens Wash and it didn't lather nearly so well. So if I find a store brand which I like the same amount (or more) as the branded version, I stick with it and save my money. If I don't, I'm happy to pay a little more and get the branded version.
-
The generic items are usually cheaper so I buy those more often.
-
I am not picky about Name brand or Generic brand, but If I need to save money I will just get the Generic brand.
-
It really dont matter to me,i doe buy generic because its cheeper
-
I think generic brands are good for certain items, and it is cheaper also.
-
generic brands are cheaper
-
It depends on the item. Many generic products are as good, sometimes better, than name brands.
