If it is an oil change, or tune up or even a dead battery I do it myself. As far as brakes if my hubby doesn't do it I take it to a mechanic because that is one thing I won't do. We very seldom use a mechanic it is less money to do it yourself especially if you know what you are doing. but if you don't see a mechanic.

My vehicle goes to the mechanics shop. Even for oil changes.
-
My dad taught me how to change my oil so I did it myself for many years, but now the garage floor is too hard.
-
Whatever I can do by myself - I do - everything else - to the mechanic! :)
-
I take my car to the dealership for any and all maintenance.
-
let someone else work on it for me
-
Mechanic! My husband is very mechanically dysfunctional and I don't even know how to open the hood!
-
Just told my son he needs to learn how to do an oil change, good luck with that.He saidyou need a pan and have to jack up the car maybe, and you have to buy oil so probably not gonna happen anytime soon.Good going for those that do their own maintenance.more power to ya.

I work on my own vehicle when I can, but for really big repairs I take it to a mechanic.
-
Back when most cars on the road had carburetors, I used to do most of the work on my vehicles, including the oil changes. Now that cars are computerized and oil changes are reasonably priced, I take my vehicle in for repairs and oil changes.
-
It depends on how bad the repair is. if anything a mechanic is my last resort.
-
My hubby's a mechanic! Thank God!! He does oil changes and small things until my warranty expires then he will do the work on my truck. He gets discounted parts, so that is always a PLUS! ;D
-
The only service I do in this car by myself is wash it or check the wiper fluid. Everything else is done by the mechanic.
-
I can do the basic things you mentioned and a few more things you didn't mention. I work with a guy that does car jobs on the side and he helps me and I am trying to learn from him all the time.
-
mechanic let the pros do it it's easier
-
I always take my car to a mechanic. I am clueless about vehicles, so it's good to have so many places around me.
-
sometimes a mechanic, but usually my son in law..
-
We bought a complete maintenance contract when we bought the car, so our only worry or surprise is how to get it to the dealership every three months.
-
I just do the basics and let the pros take care of the rest.
-
I cannot do anything on my car so mechanic all the time :) .. I think they do have warranty so it the best there.
-
I have my son do it. He researches everything thoroughly and tells me how much it will cost. He does good work.
-
My husband or I take our vehicles to a mechanic for whatever work needs to be done.
-
I take my car to a mechanic. There would be more things wrong with it when I finished working on it because I wouldn't know what to do. :P
-
Someday I wouldn't mind learning how to do basic maintenance on my car, but for now, I take my into a dealer service shop to get the maintenance done. I do know how to change a tire in case of a flat, but not oil or filter changes. (I do know how to add fluids if needed, just not change them)
-
I know nothing about cars so always a mechanic.
-
My dad will usually help with the smaller stuff, but have to go to the mechanic for the bigger issues.
-
I wish I knew how to work on my vehicle but I know nothing. My dad used to change my oil but he's too old to do that now so I take my car to a mechanic for everything.
-
I wish I knew how to repair my car I'd save a ton of money. I take mines to Pep Boys. My ex bf is a mechanic and that's one of the many reasons I regret breaking up with him is that he could have maintained my car for free :(
I have to have about $1900 work done on my car and I sure wish I knew a cheap mechanic.
-
A mechanic. My eyes glaze over when people start talking about cars in depth.
-
Our vehicle always goes to the dealership for any type of maintenance.
-
I don't know how to fix my car so oil changes I have done by a midas company and I use a mechanic when I have other cr problems
-
As cars have gotten more computer driven, I have done less and less myself.
-

We have a wonderful mechanic. We take our cars to him to work on. He is honest and has been repairing our cars for many years. Have a good day!
-
My husband works on it for all the small minor stuff.
-
I always take it to the mechanic. My hubby has friends that are mechanics so we just take it to them.Once in awhile, my hubby will do the real easy stuff like change battery.
-
mechanic. I would just ruin it more! lol

I usually let mechanics do it, so much easier
