we live in a house but we are trying to buy a mobile home i hope we get it it is 3 bedroom 2 bath 2 car garage on a acre of land i like where we are but it isn't big enough and i would rather pay the money to own in stead of paying rent

If I had to choose, since Ive lived in both, Id prefer a mobile home. Apartments are too noisy, plus the danger of careless people leaving candles or grills, or stoves burning, and starting the building on fire. However if your in an area prone to tornados you have no chance in a mobile home. Since you have acreage with the mobile home you have space as well, I dont like trailer parks, as again your right on top of one another

I prefer a house - been in ours for 35 years!

Give me a house any day, and preferably AWAY from any "HOAs."

I'm currently debating about getting my own place though I'll probably only be able to afford an apartment if I want to move near work. Though, honestly, if I could afford a small house, I'd rather do that then deal with an apartment. Just visiting my friends apartments, I can see why it would be nice, but I like the idea of not sharing a wall with the neighbor who loves being up at midnight every day of the week.

If money is really tight, a mobile home is the way to go. I live in a hurricane area and would have to evacuate in advance, which would be a real problem. I would also think carefully about it if you live in a tornado area. The house is the best way but does require lots of upkeep.

i would rather live in a house compared to a mobile home just because of the added security in bad weather and not having to pay lot rent. used to live in one with my parents when i was younger and was not a big fan. when i moved in with my husband i lived in an apartment and i will have to say that was the first and last time for that. i swear they just let anyone move into an apartment. we had two people murdered in our unit and thats when i decided we were breaking lease and getting the hell out of there. i personally have owned one house on my own and two with my husband. i would rather do this as it is your property that you can do with as you like and is a great equity to you in the long run and now that we have kids its nice to have the stability.

I do not see the logic in buying a mobile home and >renting the land it sits on. It is worse then buying >a box in the sky. You still don’t own any land and >you are still paying someone else to use it. It’s >legalized theft.

I much prefer to own a home. They are more likely to keep their value (and hopefully increase in value). Mobile homes tend to lose value.
-
maybe if I lived somewhere like Alabama I would do a mobile home but I am from a little town called oswego il. Even though its a quiet town I wouldnt do a mobile home here.

We own our home, but would be willing to move into a mobile home. It has to be in very good condition and not worth less than the land it's on.

we did own our home but recently moved into a mobile home.our neighborhood was getting bad..the home we are in is really nice and has a brick underpinning and on a spot of land that we are gonna by..land and home..i am glad we moved even though at the moment we are paying a lease

House is always better, but to each their own.

Personally I like owning over renting. Renting has its purpose - if you need to remain mobile, in case you get a job offer that requires you to move to a different city/state/country - if you rent, it'll be easier to move. If you owned, you have to deal with selling your property which is more challenging when you are not in the area.
Another reason to rent is if you get a really sweet deal on your rental, where your payment is less than that of a house payment, you can use the low rent to your advantage to save up extra money so when you are ready to buy, you have a nice down payment.
If you are starting up a business, renting may be for you as well - as most of your focus will be on getting the business going, you probably wouldn't have the time to focus on house maintenance. Renting where you have a good landlord that takes care of things like cutting grass, snow shoveling, indoor maintenance - works to your advantage to free up your time.
Eventually if you get settled in an area you want to stay, or if the cost of renting doesn't provide any savings advantages, the best bet it to own. That way you get to keep most (and if you are lucky maybe make a little extra) on your investment in the house when you do sell it someday.
Between a house and a mobile home - from a resale value, I'd choose the house over the mobile home - mobile home values don't hold up very well, generally speaking. I also like having the benefit of a basement that houses in my area have (mainly because of tornado safety reasons).

Both have their advantages. I am in a mobile home and quite happy. It's in a community, so I do have neighbors - which I like. But they are not as close as apartment neighbors would be.

Before we purchased out home in 2005, we lived in a mobile home and I loved it. Well I say I loved it, other than when there was bad weather. We moved because we were having another baby and needed more room. If I ever did purchase a mobile home I would make sure it was NOT in a park, they are usually expensive on the lot rent and some have crazy rules, such as we were not allowed to have anything on our deck like a barbecue grill, potted plants. They told you what kind of curtains you could buy and hang. They told you how many INDOOR cats you could have, one. So I would think on that first.

I've owned my own home for the last 10 years (2 different homes) and I will say I would rather live in an apartment. There are so many hidden expenses in owning a house. In the last 6 months I've needed a new garage door, had to have a tree cut down, new roof, and new plumbing lines in my downstairs bathroom.
EXPENSIVE.

I have lived in all three. It is alright living in a mobile home as long as you own the property, you can pretty much do things to your yard that you can't do if someone else owns the land (done that too and did not like it) I also lived in an apartment. It was quite and nice neighbors who looked out for each other. Some places are not that way. I was just lucky. Now we have a small house in town that we are slowly remodeling. But in our part of the country we don't have as extreme weather as they do in other parts. I would love to move back out in the country some day.

I feel safer in a house than a mobile home, especially during storm season.
Good luck with your purchase.

I don't know about it. But are you have to pay for parking since you have a mobile home?... For me I like house because you don't have to share garage with anyone. :)

I live in a mobile home that is set up as real estate. It is set up on a permanent foundation and has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths.

When I lived in an Apartment, it was hell. This guy lived over me and I think he wore the heaviest boots he could find. It was very distracting. I bought a Condo and it wasn't any better. A mobile home isn't my favorite although some are really beautifully inside, give me a brick house every time.

We've lived in all of the above and own two now... we want to sell our current house an move to an apartment with NO upkeep...

We live in an old house that is cold in the winter and hot during the summer. I want to buy a trailer, and that is because this is the family house of my husband.   :rainbow:
