Title: Writing Songs
Post by: anotherlaujgirl on August 11, 2014, 03:37:06 pm
I always make songs up as I go. Sometimes they're good sometimes they're not.

But every time I manage to make a good one, I have other people sing it because I am not a singer.

Sometimes I wish I could sing them myself.

You Never Know What Technology Will Do To Your Voice. I Remember Hearing Artists Back In The 80,s Rehearsing In The Studio. It Didn't Sound Really Good Until The Final Cut :)

LOL That's true, but I don't want to sound good because of technology. xD So I always have friends sing my songs for me.

Actually many of the songs that you hear on the radio were not written by the artist that is performing it. Some people have a talent for creating music and others have a talent for performing it. So feel proud of your accomplishments when you write a song, even if you cannot sing it yourself.

I've never actually written any songs but I have written a few pretty good poems that could likely be used for songs. I'm not very musically inclined but I do have a nephew who is and since reading these posts, I am inclined to show him my poems to see what he could do with them. Thanks!

Take some singing lessons! If you know music, it is not really that to hard to sing!

sometimes a little melody just breaks out of me and then I try to add lyrics.; but it only happens once in awhile.

I have only actually sat down to write a song once or twice, and had it turn out to be any good.  For me, the best songs come when I am doing other things (doing dishes, taking a shower, cleaning up around the house, working outdoors), and it starts with a little snippet of a tune, but the words and music almost come at the same time.  I have been asked to write lyric for someone else's melody, and to come up with a tune for someone's lyric, and neither one works well for me.  They have to show up together, most of the time.

I kind of love how everybody's process is a little bit different.  I think the process is a part of the art, and everybody's art is different.  And I agree w/the previous poster.  There are sings, songwriters, and singer/songwriters.  Whichever one you are, do it with everything you have, and no one can (reasonably) ask any more of you.  Just be you :)

Thank you! And I totally agree with you that the best songs come around when a pen and paper is unavailable! xD

Have you considered taking a singing class?

A lot of music stores usually have a person or two on staff who offer singing lessons. There's a lot of people who teach chorus/choir who give singing lessons on the side for extra money.

Explore...you'll be surprised on what's out there in your community.

Yes I have considered it. But can't afford it. My families really big and my parents never really cared for it enough to let me. xD So now i just do what I can.

I write songs too. I play guitar and sing them myself, though.

That's awesome!
I play guitar but I only know the basics. So most of my songs have the basics in them.
