I have two weeks left and I want to spend it with friends and my special other... but
we are all broke college students...
And these past few days have been a terrible start of my summer vacation...
-
Take a couple of hours and get together somewhere that has Internet Access and brainstorm a few ideas that can help your fellow students in the same boat. Then write up a short report about each solution and sell them online for 50 cents or a dollar. When you get set up, let your friends on Facebook know what you did so they can buy a report or two.
This can produce INSTANT money to your PayPal account and then you can go have a success party!

Hi! Go on a nature hike, or the beach for that matter! It's amazingly refreshing, loads of fun, and best of all, all you need is gas money! I like to take my own food and snacks. It makes a huge difference on my bank account because eating out is so expensive. Hope this helps!
-
I agree with Mart2618. One of the most fun things to do is to go to a state or national park with friends and go on a long hike. Bring lunch along to share on the trail. Or go camping overnight together someplace. Outdoor adventures are always sure to please everyone in the group.
-
Some theaters have free movies during the day. Check your theater. Hang out at a friend's house or go to the mall.
-
I like old Buddy plan to make a little extra cash. Just getting together is nice also.
-
My very first thought was to pack a lunch and go explore a national or state park. There are so many that are free and beautiful to explore. You could also get together and play games ( either sports or board games. Have everyone bring a snack food.
-
Well staying in and playing board games can be fun if you got the right people. We've had a blast doing that and it cost no money! :)
-
Volleyball, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, watching movies, cooking and eating. As long as you're together, you'll be having fun and laughing. :D
Be grateful that you have so many friends to do things with. Not all are so fortunate. Have a great time!!!!
-
Do not hang around broke people because they will bring you down. Earn your own cash and be financially independent. Do not forget: Money makes the world go around!
-
The outdoors is a great way to have fun on a budget.
-
Get your friends together for Movie Night at home. Watch a movie that you and most of yours friends like and pop some popcorn and have each person bring their drink of choice. :)
-
You can't go wrong with movie night! Also, research dollar theaters in your areas. Go to a Dollar Tree and gather supplies for a girls night in (nail polish, facial cream, hair products, etc.), go to the park and play like you did as a child, or throw on your exercise gear and go for a nice long walk.

If all else fails cruise Facebook and see what your friends and family members have been up to lol
-
Museums in my area are free, exhibits cost, but just going through the museum doesn't cost a thing. The library is a good option too-lots of books, peace and quiet. Getting in some exercise, like a hike, a game of tennis or a bike ride. Good luck.
-
On warm days head for the beach and hang out even if you don't swim. Play cards there are so many games or even board games. Exercise by walking this way you will all stay trim and healthy. If one of you have a TV find a show everyone will enjoy and watch and chat about what is going on in the movie. When I was your age I would play tennis, baseball, basketball and I am female. I hope this helps you.

ride the subway in Los Angeles, back and forth
-
Go to a park and hike! Go frisbee golfing! Take walks! Rent a red box movie!
-
Card games or board games and have everyone bring a dish to pass!
-
Fun things to do that are not expensive are going to the beach, going to a park where there is hiking and/or boating, or finding a free or low-cost museum to visit.
-
these suggestions are good
-
Dodgeball or kickball are always fun if you've got enough people.
Even if you don't, you can likely find some people who'd want to play at the park.
Pitch in for a small BBQ/potluck play some music, card games, board games and drinking games.
-
Find a free promo code - or two or three - from REDBOX & have a movie marathon
-
I do a lot of hiking and tv watching when I have no money. Or, there is a cheap movie theater near my house, two of us can go for $5.
-
there are lots of different programs and activities that next to free sometimes, check your local paper or creative loafing
-
If it's warm go for a hike, have a ball game (baseball, volleyball, etc). If it's too cold, get some kids together and put music on, and play board games or card games, and pool your money and get some pizza.

That is always what we resort to LOL but it never gets boring.

We enjoy that too.

Thanks everyone!

I find it interesting how many of these responses demonstrate what is wrong with society today. They have a serious problem facing them in that they have no money, but it's easier to ignore that and just waste the time being entertained instead of doing something about the real problem, finding a way to generate some money.

Get together, and go on a nature hike, try swimming in a lake or at the beach, or visit a museum or historical place in your town, usually that is free. You could also get together and play boardgames, cards, or watch movies on tv together. Also some theaters on college campuses have cheap or free movies. So you might try that.
-
What about going to the park with a soccer ball or to the court with a basketball, or handball? The beach could be another option or everyone could gather together and rent a movie.
-
Find a nice trail to hike/bike!
-
I agree go outside for a walk or bike ride or stay inside and play cards or board games
-
A lot of small towns such as mine show free movies in the park during the summer! Or, you can just have a movie night at home!
-
go hiking...go swimming...go to the beach or a lake...go window shopping or people watching at the mall or downtown...go to the zoo...tons of things. the best part thing is you have friends...have a blast.
-
And when you finish all these suggested free activities, you end up just as broke as when you started. Doesn't anyone want to take responsibility for their status in life? Is it someone else's fault you are broke? Why not use the time you have to CHANGE your situation instead of wasting it?
-
public library rents movies for free! :)
-
Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions everyone!

That by far is very very true as well.
-
play games.

Considering that she's talking about poor college students, I think the mere fact that they're going to school is evidence that they are trying to change their situation in the future. However life isn't all about work; you sometimes do need to do something fun as well if for no other reason than to let off some stress. Although I do like your suggestion of publishing a booklet of free activities to do, and then sell them to other college students. In fact, they may consider putting in a section of making extra spending money, like joining programs like FC!
-
Just hang out and watch movies. not everything costs money
-
Take video doing silly stuff and make a vine. Upload it and see how many hits you get!
-
play board games go to park just sit around and talk.
-
Thanks everyone!
-
Young people get bored so quickly its hard to keep them entertained much less for them to entertain themselves lol! I find reading to be a good solution but I know college kids probably don't read for fun.

LOL Definitely I don't read for fun.... unfortunately college textbooks kill the fun.
-
Ride on the city bus and just go where ever it takes you; go to a friends house and have a potluck party, play board games, or go to the beach.
-
seems a bit late to answer this but there's always the picnicing, hiking...just spending outdoors ..hope you enjoyed the summer!
-
GAME NIGHT!!!! I LOVE GAME NIGHT. Get a board game and get some popcorn and drinks and enjoy the night.
-
Go to a bar that has bands play and don't drink. Usually there is a small cover charge but they have bands that play all night at these places.
-
I'm not sure where you live. But out here in the midwest there are a ton of pumpkin patches. Many of them have cheezy plywood stands that you put your faces in for pictures. Oh and if anyone has a few dollars you can pick up some fresh jams or honeys. Spread it on bagels and have some beverages while your out at a local park. Wait a minute. I might have to do that soon myself.
-
Stay at home and watch movies with a few friends and eat popcorn with a nice drink. Go to a park and have a cook out, bring some music and enjoy.
-
Is there a park nearby? Movie night at home seems great as well.
-
First of all, stop being broke LOL!
Here are some ideas....
Go on a picnic to a nice park
Go to somewhere beautiful - a big garden, the mountains, a scenic route
Go play a game or a card game
Join meet up and go meet some new people doing activities you enjoy
Find a busy street corner and sing a song to annoy people and hopefully make some change ;)
That's all I can think of right now...
-
I know what you mean, I love to read. I was laughing to a book even when I was hanging out with an ex the other day and he asked what's funny. I said this is for me, clutched the book, and continued reading. It's not only brain food (as I call it), but very adventurous. If I can't get into a book by the second chapter I put it away.

That first line was an excellent suggestion xD

-
Play video games ? or just go out and play some sports.

absolutely xD

Sports is a great idea; not only are you spending time together but you're being physically active.

Yes definitly. Although that won't be an option when I go back home for Christmas. LOLOL :) I guess hot chocolate and a movie date would suffice in December.
-
Obviously you could just hang out, watch tv, and talk. Other than that it kind of depends on where you live. Where I live, walking around downtown is a good option.
-
Go to the library to check out books and movies, stay in and play a board game, or do a craft. Clean house, take a walk through a nature trail, wash the car or the dog. Cook something.
-
Just hang out, if you all can cook or bring an small dish or finger food, get movies video games and board games and meet at someones place and enjoy, it is the most inexpensive way to be with friends and have a good time. I am sure that if you guys sit to play a board game conversation will flow and next you all know you would be trading jokes, anecdotes, old times and just laughing and having fun without even spending a dime.

Oooo yes. My friends and I do that all the time. :)
-
Sport.. Get physically fit
-or-
Play LoL (never played it, but it is free)... If you don't want to spend money outside, might as well do it indoors and play video games
-
you could watch movies at home or in the dorm ?
-
You've been given a lot of good ideas here. I hope you and your friends find something that will be remembered as one of the best vacations you had.
