Since I started using wifi my monthly internet bill has gone from $50 to over $200 with AT&T! HELP please :pumpkin:

$200??? Get rid of your internet provider! Threaten to cancel with them and some times they will try to sweeten you up by making you stay with them with better deals or offers. OR just cancel all together and switch to another provider. Good luck! :) :clover:

I switched to a mobile hotspot (paid $200) for it and then I buy top-up cards to pay for my internet. I get unlimited 4G for $35 a month. There's no way for them to "overcharge" me because I only pay with a top-up card (it's like a gift card).

I thought our internet was bad but $200 a month beats ours. You need a new provider. We have Hughes Net and pay around $70. I have friends that bundle their internet, phone and tv and get great deals but we don't have cable here. Look around and I think you will find something much better than what you have.

Before you start switching providers, check your bandwidth usage. It's possible you're using it for other things in the background. Do you use a cloud storage service ?

No one on here can help you. You need to call ATT. Are you on a deal where it is unlimited use or do you get a certain amount of data and you are going over your allotment? ATT cannot know if you have wifi in your home. Sounds to me like you are just using more data and you do not have unlimited data
Call ATT and first off : Ask for a call center in the US. If they argue with you say it again. They have to transfer you. This info came from ATT. We recently had a rep from h*ll who pretty much refused to let us speak to a supervisor or anyone else. Finally we told her "Transfer me to your supervisor NOW or I will hang up and get someone else to do so and report you for refusing" she finally did it.
Anyway, after you get to the US then ask for a supervisor (unless it is a matter of going over your allowed allotment and then it is your fault not theirs).

If you are in a contract you cannot threaten to cancel. :(

Is it really unlimited? The phones at Walmart say "unlimited" but if you read the tiny print then it is only 5 gig.

What are you using to connect your WiFi to the internet?! Usually if you're using DSL (which is what I'm guessing since it's AT&T) they don't normally have a cap on bandwidth. Or are you talking about a cellular connection? If that's the case, I'd ditch that and connect your WiFi to a line of some sort (eg cable, DSL, phone-line / modem, etc.) You shouldn't connect your phone to WiFi if that connection from the WiFi router to the net is also via a cellular connection; that just defeats the purpose since you're just trading the cellular costs from off your phone and onto the WiFi-cellular connection.

What service provider do you have? Is it really unlimited data, or do you get throttled after a certain limit is reached?
-
Are you using the internet on your phone or another device? I have ATT for both cell service and internet and haven't experienced anything like that
If you're using a mobile device to connect to wifi make sure you turn your cellular data off. If the wifi goes out it'll automatically start using the cellular data which could cause you to go over the data limit

I wish I could of some assistance to you. Good thing we have a lots of helpers already here to help you with the matter at hand. Hope you'll get it resolved in due time. I am not very good when it comes to computer/phone connections and or bills. Good luck!

Just for Internet! That's crazy. Try a bundle, internet and tv or even phone. We have a bundle through att no premium channels our bill is half that-good luck.
-
I pay $59.99/mo for HughsNet and I think that's high. Can't get cable here.
-
You must be talking about a cell phone wifi. ATT charging $200 for wifi and they do not have a limit on how long your online. You should get regular dsl and save your cell phone gigs. ATT does not even charge taxes.

I thank everyone for their replys! :pumpkin:

I have a bundle deal with TW and it is not 200.00

Have you looked at your bill to see what they're actually charging you for?The only reason my ATT bill is $200 a month is because it's for two cell phones plus home Internet.

Recently did a quality related study on ISP (relating how a specific organization that needs TQM)... Most ISP "make" the mistake of double bill... It's too bad tht there is a heavy monopoly in the isp/cable providers in America... Makes them believe that they can treat their customers like s*** and get away with it.. "Oh you want to cancel our service? Too bad we are the only ISP in the area"
Probably have to move to Sweden or S. Korea to get good internet and data speeds
-
yeah dang man I would cut internet all together
-
I have seen news about AT&T recently. They are not to be trusted.
-
ATT is total crap!
-
call att immediatly, no one should have to pay that much just for internet,,is it possible that you have phone and cable included?
-
Well, I've had internet service with at&t for over 6 years and haven't had a problem like that. I agree with another poster and check your bill to see what you're actually being charged for, and then I would call at&t for a further explanation.

I found information about AT&T. They and Verizon and T-Mobile are funding the American Legislative Exchange Council. Have you heard of the Koch brothers? CREDO is a new discovery of mine. I signed a petition there to save a school in upstate New York. Do some more research on your own.
I find it interesting in my everyday life to trace back some steps of who owns what companies. I find myself saying " I didn't know that." and "I'm glad I know now."
-
cancel and go with a different servicer.
-
drop them now. At&t are criminals when 1 year is up they can charge anything. and don't go back trust me on this
-
WOW I thought Comcast was high for my TV and Internet, but my internet is only about $60 a month so now I feel better :)
-
I guess I'm feeling blessed with what I pay for internet. I thought my cable/internet bundle was expensive ($98/month) but I guess it isn't. I have a wireless router hooked up, also.
-
Is some one else using your wifi? Is it protected from other users?
-
I am not understanding if your bill was for Internet at home or for the data on your cell phone. If it is the data for cell phone, then check if your phone is picking up the wi-fi when available, my daughter had that happened to her a few years back, once you set your phone to pick wi-fi when available then it will not use your data plan until it is absolutely necessary.
If it is the home internet then check what type of plan you have, I have a bundle with FIOS and internet is the one that I pay the least for.
Good luck

It not work for me :) That why I switch to *bleep* now. They do increase my bill too... I try to talk to them but it not work out :) So I cancel them... No more talk! :)

it is unreasonable for them to charge that high. I would either call them to clarify what make them charge that much, if that happen I would switch to other company.....it is not end of the world....you know
