Have you heard that the world is eating more chocolate than is being produced and that if it continues we will run out by 2020, especially because of the popularity of dark chocolate (which has more coca beans in it). One possible solution is to grow a variety that has less taste, but would that work for you? It would cut down on consumption, but could go the other way too far.
-
I like any kind of chocolate but dark chocolate is my favorite. I wonder why more beans cannot be grown. That seems logical to me.
-
Nooooooooooooo! That would be horrible. A world without chocolate would be catastrophic.
-
I heard something about that. I don't think we will run out. It will just be expensive and none of us common folk will be able to afford it. lol
-
Well, we should all get down on our knees and pray that doesn't happen. Right? :angel11:
Long live chocolate! :star:
-
I too like chocolate, and don't want to see it run out.
-
Yes I did hear this on the news. It is devastating isn't it! Having said that I really don't know if I could contemplate having less cocoa flavor in my chocolate either! Oh what a quandary! Chocolate is my favorite candy, my favorite dessert, my favorite guilty pleasure. We're going to have to start rationing I think. How sad.

I heard about this story AFTER I heard that there was going to be less chocolate because of the countries the cocoa bean is grown in - due to Ebola and these countries not having enough people to pick the beans. Now I wonder which one is true. Actually, I wonder if ANY of it is true or is it just another way to jack up the price of chocolate since everything else has gone sky high.
-
I don't eat a lot of chocolate, but still hoping the price doesn't raise way too much due to this.
-
No, that would not work for me. I love my dark chocolate but only have good chocolate as a special treat. If
it were non fat and delicous, I may rethink my answer.
-
I saw that and it is a depressing thought - a world without chocolate would be - well just plain and simply a sad world. I do so love me some chocolate.
-
I would have no reason to live...
-
This reminds me of the twinky scare. Going to stock up and set up an ebay account. LOL. I like chocolate but am not a great consumer of it. There are other plants that make chocolate tastes. Like the chocolate mint plant. It will actually turn milk to a chocolate color and it does taste like chocolate.
-
People know better...they go for the chocolate because it has more nutrients than coffee.
-
No i have not heard this nor do i think it is true if it was going to run out by 2020 i think it would be in the news somewhere thats not that far off.
-
I heard that. I'd definitely miss it if it was gone. I love chocolate, white chocolate is my favorite but dark is a close second.
-
Oh no, I need chocolate! :'(
-
NO! Life would be hard without chocolate, I do so enjoy a Hershey or a snicker every now and then.
-
A world without chocolate would be sad indeed.

I love chocolate mint plants. They smell so yummy.
-
I like to eat chocolate. Thank You!
-
I saw that too.....I love chocolate so hope we can find a solution so I don't have to pay more
-
I read about this on the internet. What will we do without chocolate??? Since I personally don't care for the dark chocolate, I think they should stop making it since it is using so much of the cocoa beans and only make milk and white chocolates (my favorites).
-
It would suck if we ran out of chocolate cause I love it hope it doesn't run out though
-
I think it would work for me but its just crazy to think that we could run out of chocolate!
-

That would be contrary to normal human behavior! When it gets closer people will start hoarding it.

Somehow I think God has more important things to worry about than if we have chocolate or not. lol

A while back I had heard that the price of chocolate would increase this year because of the cocoa bean crop being destroyed or not producing enough because of drought.

Really? How does this work? I have chocolate mint in my garden every year. But I don't really know what to do with it. So do I just jank the leaves off and stir them in my milk?

lol. It HAS been on the news. I have seen it and heard it several times.

I am sure people who love the dark chocolate would disagree with your theory there. lol.

If you think this is no big deal, look how many responses this post has in just over one day!
-
I was the first one to answer you yesterday and when I checked it today I couldn't believe how many replies there have been since then. A lot of people obviously care about chocolate.
-
I'm pretty sure Monsanto will take care of this as soon as they can.

I wonder also. Shame believing this story is like believing Republicans will come up with anything to benefit the American people and i do not mean the RICH.
-
I heard this today on The Doctor's. I hope it is not true. I can't live without my chocolate fix every now and then.
-
I will survive with or without cocoa or hot chocolate.
-
I will survive with or without cocoa or hot chocolate.
I am sure we all will, but it will be interesting if someone solves the problem before it hits. There certainly does seem to be a lot of people willing to buy it if they do.
-
I rarely eat or drink chocolate, but I do love to cook and bake with it. My family loves it. I on the other hand am not a big sweet eater. But it would be shame if something happened and there would be no more. Of course with a/fib I am not suppose to have it because of the caffeine.
-
No I have not yet of this either. I watch the news every day. What part of the world or where did this come from. Where did you find this.

Search Google for world wide chocolate shortage.
Be sure to read the latest from Snopes.
-
I haven't heard that before! I personally am trying to cut down on my own consumption of chocolate, for weight-loss reasons.
-
I haven't heard this about chocolate but it is interesting
-
I am going to have to check that. The last time I googled something and posted it, it turned out to be a hoax.
-
wow i dont eat much chocolate but i couldnt see chocolate with less taste cause i do like chocolate from time to time
-
To me dark chocolate is my favorite

I know its a figure of speech but I think anyone could survive without chocolate.
-
Wow I did not hear this, it would be weird if we ran out of chocolate. Maybe I should start collecting now and sell it at exorbitant prices when their gone.
-
Oh no! That would be awful! I'm not much of a sweets person, but I do like chocolate candy. I think they are just utilizing some fear-mongering to have an excuse to hike the prices up. They already said the price of chocolate will be higher next year.
-
Everyone chocolate is not going anywhere. As long as humans are around there will be Chocolate
-
How sad, what will we do without Chocolate?
-
I have not heard that, it seems a little far fetched but at the same time, I guess it is possible. I don't eat a ton of chocolate myself, I think I would be able to survive without chocolate. I'm sure I"d crave it sometimes but there are plenty of other sweets out there.
-
I have heard this on all the news channels lately too. I love chocolate, so I think they will figure something out, raise the prices something, something. I love chocolate
-
The candy and beverage companies won't let that happen
-
I love dark chocolate and it is my go to stress buster.
-
No more chocolate? That's a terrible thought!!!
-
I saw this on the news the other day. I will eat some chocolate right now to mourn.
-
Wow that would be just terrible with no chocolate
-
I hope this isn't true. 2020 is very soon.
-

I wouldn't believe everything that's on the news. It's a pessimistic point of view that goes no where with me. It's like saying that, in the future, there will be no retirement income for senior citizens. Occasionally, we also hear something bizarre, on the news, like....
water can cause cancer. It's just plain silly to believe that stuff.
-
Well, it appears we won't "run out" but a shortage will put the prices higher. Can't vouch for the following link but it is interesting and does provide some supporting links as well (usually not found in hoax sites but I can't be absolutely sure) and puts the blame squarely on low paid and/or slave labour and the ability to grow more lucrative crops more quickly.
The link also gives 5 other commodities that we are running short on. Again, not sure of the validity but all seem reasonable to me. I've heard of the helium shortage before but I wasn't aware of how critical it is to our high tech functioning.

I read something about that. I'm on the fence about this one; on one hand I feel like we could do without it (side effects include rotted teeth, high blood sugar and acne) but on the other it's a comfort food and some kinds are actually good for you. I guess we'll just have to wait and see; so many things are falsely predicted these days.

Well said I came across an article here in NJ and it wasn't true it was a hoax. But who knows people just like to put things on the internet just for fame.
-
oh nooooooooooooo! :(
-
I too would be lost without my special dark choc. my daughter owns a bakery and candy making shop and trust me the prices have gone up already for the holiday season quite a bit :(
-
Here's a thought. I worked for Ambrosia Chocolate Company in the 1980's where I was told when I started that I could eat as much chocolate as I wanted while working there. I ate my fair share of chocolate for my first month and for the next 5 years while employed there I never ate a single piece of chocolate at or away from work. So to help the cause of keeping chocolate from becoming extinct, let's all eat our hearts out for a month and give it up for the next 5 years. As a whole, maybe we can make chocolate last until at least 2080! :D :D
-
I' ve heard about the possible chocolate shortage and I, for one, don't believe it. After all the media only tells lies and never the truth anyway. LONG LIVE CHOCOLATE!!!!
-
yes... I have read that, Really bad news!
The truth is that the production of cocoa is getting lesser.
Oh, no please....
-
True, I can't tell you how many times I've read an article on alarming news and it actually turned out to be a hoax.

:o
I suppose Carob could help us chocolate addicts until we get used to it ;)
-
Guess its time to save up a good amount.
-
Cant really save chocolate. It would either melt or go bad.
-
I have never heard of this before, but thanks for the info.
-
Are we going to run out of gas, coffee, plastic, trees, etc. too ??? 8) :peace:
-
I sometime wonder why can't they add coco beans without add any sugar at all, that may cut down the consumption ???
-
Well if there wasn't such a high demand for cocoa this year in other countries then we would have this problem I think.
-
I WANT chocolate .... every day ....    :rose: :rose: :rainbow: :rainbow:

Not too worried about it, they will find a way to make more chocolate.
