Title: Favorite Christmas Movies
Post by: lvstephanie on December 24, 2014, 08:46:17 am
What is your favorite Xmas movie? And by Xmas movie, I mean any movie that is set during the holiday season, not just those that have their plot centered around the holidays.

For me, I enjoy It's a Beautiful Life for its message, esp. since the holiday season can sometimes be depressing for some people like those that have lost loved ones. For a comedy, I like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation... Although not as great as the original Vacation movie, I still think it is a pretty funny look at the holidays for an average family. Finally for an action movie, I'd have to say Die Hard (remember that the employees inside Nakatomi Plaza were having their company's Christmas party). This film actually launched Bruce Willis' role in action movies. But what I really enjoyed about the movie is the plot twist that emerged.

I guess that's why I didn't really list those older kids movies as favorites of mine... The enjoyment really isn't from the movie itself but rather the nostalgia that those movies bring. But from that standpoint, I do like those movies too; even seeing a short clip reminds me of my childhood Christmases.

The Life & Adventures of Santa Claus.

It is an animated movie I saw a few years ago. It tells a story about a boy named Nicholas and how he grew up to become Santa Claus.

I like Home Alone and It's a Beautiful Life, for different reasons. Home Alone is light and humorous, It's a Beautiful Life is sad and sentimental. But both celebrate the season beautifully.

This year, my friend and I were looking thru Netflix for a family Christmas movie for my friend's 5-year-old, and came across Frosty, or so we thought.... Turned out it was a modern cartoon modeled after the original Frosty movie, but had a completely different stoyline. Definitely not as good as the original.
