I have a lot of semiprecious jewelry (mostly rings) - not real expensive pieces. Sterling, 10k gold with stones like aquamarine, amethyst, etc. They aren't cheap costume pieces by any means, but not more than $100 or so each. I would like to sell them as I cannot wear them and get no use out of them. I have tried going to jewelers with no luck and *bleep* shops just offer price of gold which is next to nothing and these are not junk or broken pieces. i was thinking about selling on craigslist but wondered if people actually would buy from there. Any thoughts?

Yes Craigslist is a great option. I had a Galaxy SIII and posted it on Craigslist. Within 2 days My new phone that I had, I was getting texted like crazy after a week I had a buyer he came to my house and picked it up sold for 75.00 . So I would post them if I were you. I want to post other stuff as well.

I would not buy anything off of craiglist. There has been so many stories about people selling items and when they meet to make the exchange, they get hurt.

That's why you have to do some real research before you do any kind of business with other people. Also if your going to sell something have them meet you on your turf not theirs, or in a public place where there is a lot of people. The people that get hurt are people that are careless in there decisions.

I would not buy anything off craigslist,,,, and anyone who does is crazy you may not live !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
with all the beatings and killings associated with craigslist, you are only asking for trouble, but to each their own
-
I would probably not just because i would assume it was stolen or something of that nature it just seems wrong and werid to me, just my opinion.
-
Well it isn't the feedback I was hoping for, but it does tell me information I need to know. I just do not know how I am going to sell these items.
-
If you have any doubt about whether or not to buy something online, then don't. It's possible it could be a stolen item or a fake. It's just not worth it.
-
Personally speaking, I would not trust anything that is being sold on Craigslist, Ebay, or any other related website. Craigslist especially has a questionable reputation after that rapist/killer located his victims using the website. That particular case alone forever turned me off to Craigslist. :-(
-
Sorry, I don't trust Craigslist, maybe you should try Ebay.
-
I would not buy a single thing off of craigslist with all of the people who have been set up and killed for whatever reason. I'm very surprised that the government has not had the site taken down.!
-
I will not buy in Craigslist so scary.
-
There has been so many bad stories about CraigsList that I think I would be afraid of it. I've not had any problems with anything I bought off of EBay or Amazon.
-
I dont understand you people, have you ever tried selling something online, cause if not dont knock it until you try it. Like I said I have sold a cell phone on craigslist and had 100% success with my sell. You guys read into things way too much.
-
No I wouldn't as I've heard of too many scams that co-incide with Craigs List. The last scam I heard was for someone wanting to buy jewellery without having actually seen it (always a red flag) and then offering to give the seller more than enough money, by check, to keep the jewellery for them. They finally arrive, give the check and take the jewellery, and the check bounces.
-
Heck no. Too many scams on that site.

That's why you would except only cash no checks, credit cards, or anything like that just cash and money orders then you can see who really wants it or doesn't. Have them meet you on your turf not theres or half way its either your turf or nothing.

You need to meet up in a public space, parking lot - if you need to meet up & have concerns.
I sold a television cabinet on Craigslist & it was a very easy transaction to do. I sold it right out of my home & the guy who bought it paid cash, he was buying it for his father. You hear about the bad, but there is a lot of good happening there too. :)

Thank You at least someone out there feels the way I do. All I have been reading is a lot of negative feedback

I would be afraid to. It could be fake and you would have a hard time getting your money back. You would have to be real sure of the one selling it. I would not take the chance. BMaston12

i would not i know people that have got stuff from them and when they got it it wasn't what they bought
-
You can get better deals I think vs wholesale.

Doesnt anyone understand, she is trying to sell it on craigslist not buy things. I think everyone is confused.
-
No, I would not. There is no way to know if the jewelry is genuine.
-
I never bought anything off Craig's List, but I would be cautious when meeting the seller. EBay is not bad either, But check feedback- 100% feedback is what I look for, but I never buy electronics or expensive stuff on there.
If you do sales with people in your state off Craig's List, make sure to meet in public areas, morning or afternoon or light outside during the evening. Do have another person accompany you incase you feel uncomfortable. I would avoid house meeting so in case the buyer turns out to be a creep.
-
I would from a flea market
But I sell
Jewelry
On Facebook

I've sold two items from Craigslist. We met in a public place I knew was busy and I was familiar with. I would never go to someone's home or let them come to mine. I also made it clear that I would pick the place and time if they were interested.
I also sized up their car to make sure they didn't follow me home and left after they had pulled away from the meeting place.
Communicate by email alone. Phone numbers are too easy to connect to addresses.
As far as jewelry is concerned, people are always going to be wary if it's real. If you have original boxes and receipts, this would be the time to have them available. If not, you might want to contact a jeweler and ask how much it would be to write up brief statements on each piece of jewelry simply verifying what the stones are, that they are real, and if they are set in 10, 14, or whatever karat gold or sterling silver.
The markup on jewelry is very high so I don't know what kind of a deal you originally received. Only the likes of high quality diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and pieces with a great deal of gold are worth much in the secondary market.
-
People would definitely buy them! Especially if they look well kept, people would most likely pay the price your asking.
-
I just don't think I would. Good luck to you though.
-
no i wouldn't....it's too dangerous....be careful
-
Probably not. Maybe other things like furniture or clothing. Some people are very good at distinguishing real and fake jewelry. I'm not one of those people.
-
I would be a little worried about craigs list, try a local online selling blog first.
-
I would buy jewelry from Craigslist if it was what I was looking for. I'm not afraid of Craigslist at all.
-
It will depend on how good it looks or how much it is being selled for. If it is selling for a low price then I know its no good.
-
I don't think that would for it a try. There are a lot of things not good to buy on Craigslist. And there are a lot of story bad going on so becareful on what you buy on craigslist.
-
I wouldn't buy anything on craigslist, to many nuts on there
-
I don't really wear jewelry and I think the people I would shop for would feel hesitant receiving jewelry used. If I was more open, I would more rather choose from Ebay with PayPal backing than with Craigslist, which I don't have as much assurance on the legitimacy of the purchase.

LOL, thanks. I think just the topic of jewelry and craigslist is being seen by some, but I appreciate the variety of responses. Thanks for trying to clarify. :)
-
I personally would not purchase jewelry from Craigslist, but I am sure others would. Good luck!
-
I have sold a lot of stuff on craiglists would not buy jewerly never know where it came from
-
I would never buy jewelry off of craigslist, ebay or any other website besides a reputable jewelry retailer. Even though there are some honest sellers on these sites there are too many others that can not be trusted. Whenever I buy jewelry I want to be sure I am getting what I paid for. I want the real deal - silver, gold, diamonds - not some fake.

They just understand what your trying to say. You want to sell not buy. See I understood
-
I understand you want to sell not buy. I seriously don't know if I would use craigslist. The only way I would ever consider would be meeting in a neutral place, NOT your home, don't ever use your phone (caller ID), or give your number out, there are ways to look up your address from your number. Try a parking lot in a busy mall or someplace with alot of people. Of course you know to only accept cash. I don't know what sex you are, but I would make sure my husband, brother, or any male would be with me. I have sold a few things on craigslist with no problems, but that was many years ago. Sadly things have changed, but good luck if you decide to use craigslist, just be careful and I hope you make a killing!
-
It depends of the deal being offered. It has to be something that I really like.
-
I would try ebay before craigslist, there are a lot of criminals on that site.
-
no never, haven't you heard of those psycho killers? we had something like that happen here in canada, a man went to purchase a van he found on kijiji, and the 'sellers' ended up burning him alive in the van he wanted to purchase.
-
That's Y I would never ever buy a car on Craigs list. Your better off going to a dealership for that.
-
I have a Facebook fan page called Shelljewellery!

What does that have t do with the topic of conversation
-
Of all the scary news about craigslist I would not buy anything from there.
-
Personally, I don't use craigslist that much. But, I've seen all kinds of things there. If you're selling jewelry, I think it would help to have pictures.
-
Guess I'm just not a trusting type person; I wouldn't buy jewelry off any internet site. Seems to me the odds of getting what you thought you would be getting are pretty low. I belong to several buy, sell, trade apps on Facebook and I see ppl selling even jewelry on those so you might check on that.
-
I know I wouldn't.
-
As long as you do your research it should be okay. I have sold things online and bought things on ebay and craigslist.
-
Buying anything off Craigtslist is buyer beware because you don't really know if its the real deal or not
-
no
-
I would not buy anything from a creiglist as I want my jewely to be fixed if need be
-
ummm,,,maybe??????

I sold my piano on Craig's List. I was a little leery of it, but I got my money (in cash) and the people brought a truck and a couple strong men and got their piano. I talked to them on the phone a couple times before we met in person.
-
maybe but probably not, depends on what it was.
