Title: People of Walmart
Post by: countrygirl12 on March 04, 2015, 07:50:14 am
I mentioned this in another thread about a totally different topic.  But I will admit I have in the past looked at these pictures and laughed at people in the pictures but I got to thinking about it and that is so wrong.  I refuse to look at those pictures.  Most of the time if someone is dressed in a costume it is either Halloween or some reason they are dressed up.  Of course that is not told when they put a random person's pic on there.

Maybe people don't have any better clothes than what they wear.  Whatever the reason.  It doesn't matter.  I just know it would really hurt me for my picture to be put on a site like that and people make fun of me and laugh at me because of what I wore or how my hair looked when I went to Walmart.  And I know for a fact that people have taken my picture when I was in public.  Me and my mom were in a parking lot and as we walked by a car a man in the car took our picture.  I told mom he did.  I saw him.  But there is nothing you can do about it.   :(

Some people want to say "oh they have a right to" but NO they do not.  You do NOT have the RIGHT to take pictures of random people you do not know.  But since everyone has a camera with them 24/7 and they are in phones, pens, watches, and everything else you never know when you are being spied on.

You are so right and I think you have a good heart to come to this conclusion.  I was looking at those pictures recently and I came to the same conclusion - it is cruel and it isnt right.  The people who are different are to be pitied but respected - they are human beings and they are who they are and we aren't perfect either in our own way.  I would be proud to have you as a friend.

I don't like pictures making fun of other people either.....I saw a video posted once of a girl who was obviously tripping on some drug walking the aisles.... it was supposed to be a "Hey this is why you don't do drugs" video. It got that message across but it was sad.

I don't look at them either. I was teased growing up and I do not care to tease other people. It is like being a bully.

I have to agree with you.  It's in bad taste to laugh at other people for any reason.

I would not like the video either.  I am over the public "shaming" as it is called.  And there are people who are taking medication that is given to them by a doctor and they take it as prescribed and they have a reaction to it.  Can trip out and have hallucinations and everything.  I know someone who that happened to and they took cough syrup with codeine in it and was allergic to the codeine and they did not know it.  Thankfully they were not out in public where people would be quicker to make fun than to try to help.

I don't look at them either. I was teased growing up and I do not care to tease other people. It is like being a bully.

It IS being a bully.  I was made fun of all my life growing up and actually have a co-worker who bullies me and a couple who laugh at me and make fun of me now.  They don't call it being a bully or making fun but just "having fun" and "aggravating" me.  But when it is to the point that I do not want to go to work because I don't want to have to deal with it then it is crossing the line.

It has been a long time since I have looked at any of those pictures but the last time I did there were a couple that I actually felt sorry for the people.  One I remember was a person who was really over weight.  And their clothes were not big enough.  Well, I am sure if this person could just lose the weight they would.  It is not easy.  And you cannot afford to buy healthy food.  Me and mom went to the grocery store and I pointed out this :  1 box of pizza rolls with 40 grams of fat and 400 calories is $1.   Beside it :  1 box of stuffed spinach and tomato rolls (with less in the box) $4.99  The calories and fat were a lot less but there are a lot of people struggling to even be able to buy food.  The junk, processed, make you fat food is all people can afford.

Kind of drifted there sorry.  Idk lately you hear tons of stories were people try to "shame" or say what it is MAKE FUN OF OTHERS on social media, the internet in general, and people flock to it.  Even worse is parents doing it to their kids and some idiot always has to comment "parenting done right".  And you wonder why these kids kill people???

You are right.  And people don't think it could be them being laughed at.  What if it is your mom or your kid?  Would you still laugh???  Some people would I guess.  Idk.  I have zero use for a bully.

I've seen stuff at Walmart that I just do NOT see at other stores, or even the gas stations by our Walmart.  I think alot of those Walmart people dress like that hoping to get put on that website or in  video.  I've heard they start looking even crazier the later the night gets....  I love the People of Walmart You Tube videos, and the Walmart parodys by Sloppy Secondz--not gonna lie!   ;D

Exactly why I loathe sites like this. It's so mean and honestly, we're regressing as people.

Actually, I never believe those photos are from Walmart.  I have been to many Walmarts and have never seen anyone dressing like that.  The Media is an ugly monster using info to get reactions from people.

I can't stand people who will ridicule another just to make themselves feel superior.  We are all God's children.

I am not sure what pictures you are referring to? Are you referring to "Wal-martians?" I totally agree with what you said about people taking photos of you without your consent. That is a violation of your rights.

People of Walmart are no different from anyone else.  They are human and deserve to be treated with the same respect and dignity as anyone else.  Just some food for thought.  Simply because people shop at Walmart does not give you a free pass to ridicule or belittle them.

Don't guess I've seen any pictures like yall have described but don't think I'd want to see them either if they are making fun of people.

Uh no.  It's called "People of Walmart"  I have never heard of the one you mentioned.  And people take pics of others for all sorts of reasons from making fun of them to using it for a profile pic on a fake site.  I remember a couple years ago a woman found her son's pic (he was a couple months old) on a site like craig's list up for adoption.  It was a pic SHE had posted all over face book.

It has nothing to do with shopping at Walmart or being belittled for shopping at Walmart.  I am not sure if you do not know what I am talking about or just missed the point of my post.  They are not being ridiculed for shopping at Walmart.  They are being ridiculed for the foolish ways, trashy ways and insane ways they dress.  I am sure there are "People of Target" and other such sites as well as the one for Walmart.

Well I have looked at them in the past.  I have even laughed at some of them.  Some of them are funny.  But I have noticed most of them are must making fun of people.  For example people who are over weight.  That's when I stopped looking at them.

Some people do dress in an outrageous way to get attention.  There was a girl came in where I worked a few weeks ago and she had half her head shaved, the other half her hair was purple.  She had facial piercings in her nose and eyes.  Tattoos on her face.  And an attitude to match the billy bad persona she was trying to convey to everyone.  Most everyone just ignored her and the more they ignored her the more outrageous stuff she done to try to get attention brought to herself.  Smh.

There was another thread sort of on this same line about people (employees) being rude at Walmart.  I don't think it has anything to do with WHERE you work but who YOU are as a person.  I deal with complete jerks at work but I also deal with a lot of nice people.  People who say thank you and ask nicely for help.  There are jerks every where.  There are also people every where who are having a tough time.  And sometimes that spills over into your attitude.  No matter who you are.

We should stop being judgmental, classifying people in some group is not right

Nobody classified anybody in any certain group.  There are also sites that are "Pictures of Target" and "Pictures of Lowes" and pictures of every other store out there.  People want to make it a Walmart thing and say they are being shamed for shopping at Walmart.  No, you are being shamed for looking stupid, wearing little to no clothes, clothes that are way too small, or extremely dirty or going out in public in pajamas.  The only group that would put you in is lazy maybe.

I do have issues with people too lazy to put regular clothes on when they go out in public.  I remember a few years ago this girl actually came in to where I worked to turn in her application and she was wearing pajamas.  I am not sure she really wanted the job.  smh.  Needless to say she was not called in for an interview.

I am not sure if you all saw or heard about the video that went viral (I did not watch it but saw a snip on the news) about a fat guy that was dancing and these idiot girls took a video and posted on line with the caption "just sit down and quit acting like you can dance" or something like that.  And like a million people liked it IN SUPPORT of him.  And have even raised several thousand dollars on that go fund me website. lol.

I have accessed this website many times and I love it. Admittedly I do wonder if these people are real because their outfits are so questionnable, but it is a great source of entertainment. There has been occasions when I wonder if I might know somebody, but I never do.
