Even the airlines industry is no immune to necessary mergers. Some companies can merge so often that they become "too big". If a businessman flies for a business trip, his company pays. Perhaps there is no concern for price. Whatever is needed, they will pay to get their rep to the distination for the benefit of the company.
I still think the consumer goes with reasonable prices for the flights and airlines available for their destination.
There used to be stiff competition. People do have their preferences. They may base their decisions on how they are treated.

Before long there will not be any choices. The phone companies, internet companies, all of them are merging into one big company. And if a little company tries to start up they cannot compete with the huge company with millions of customers - therefore they stay the only company.

My father works as a Airplane technician... The company he works for merges with one the worst airplane industry and it took several years until everything gets standard.

Even with low oil prices, the prices of airline tickets do not seem to get any lesser.

I hate the fact that we lost the perks like food and baggage and the tickets are still not cheap!

If I am not mistaken: Southwest and Jet Blue have the lowest airfares.
