My husband have that also, we tried all the remedies (chiropractor, aromatherapy etc.) and one time we have to bring him in the emergency because he cant stand for 3 days. After that he knows already how to avoid it, don't lift heavy things, avoid playing golf and don't do much. If you feel that its about to hurt stop doing and just take muscle relaxer and rest.

I have severe spinal stenosis which causes sciatic among other problems.  My doctor sent me to physical therapy. I was taught exercises which help.

If you have not seen a doctor, you need to. What did your doctor suggest? Did your doctor refer you to physical therapy.  If not, talk to your doctor again.  The right exercise might help.  There also might be back braces that will help and finally, there are surgical procedures that are sometimes necessary.

There are doctors who treat spinal and back issues. Have you gone to one?

What are you doing for your sciatica.  It needs to be treated.

I had that for quite some time some years ago but haven't been bothered with it in a long time.  It was one of the most painful things I have ever had to cope with and I do feel for you.  Pain pills were very little help for me.

While it may seem counterintuitive, exercise is usually better for relieving sciatic pain than bed rest. Patients may rest for a day or two after their sciatic pain flares up, but after that time period, inactivity will usually make the pain worse.

It's terrible pain, sciatica. I started going to a chiropractor and that helps quite a bit. There are a lot of yoga stretches good for relief too

It is true.  There are some stretches which can really help, doing them on a daily basis once the acute flare up has calmed.  Doing them daily can be preventative to an extent.

Do not do heavy lifting or twisting of your back for the first 6 weeks after the pain begins.Physical therapy may also be recommended. Additional treatments depend on the condition that is causing the sciatica.

OUCH! Painful.  I've had that through the end of each of my pregnancies.  Dr. said it's from added weight gain and encouraged me to walk.  Avoid anything strenuous.  As soon as my babies were delivered and my body reclaimed it's shape the sciatica would go away.

I have spinal stenosis as well and have had a horrid bout of sciatica as a result.  The only thing that relieved it ultimately was an epidural injection.
The specific things that aggravate the condition are: lifting anything heavier than a half gallon of milk; bending backwards, sitting for more than 45 minutes at a time, twisting the spine.
Before I get out of bed in the morning I do a series of stretches including knees to chest and holding for several seconds; repeat a few times with each leg - then, both legs together.
I hope you get relief soon.

You could also do some stretching on the floor, plus maybe change your diet, if you have diabetes..

I have this, I thought I had a kidney stone it was so painful, I couldn't even lift my arms to take my shirt off. Luckily the pain isn't so bad these days.

The doctor told me to sit on a cushion to help.
