Title: Walking Stairs at home
Post by: melodylogan45 on May 16, 2015, 03:34:03 am
How many flights of stairs do you walk daily at home and is it comfortabe for you to
walk those stairs or does it cause you pain?

I live in a garden level apartment so I only have 5 stairs and I chose this apartment on purpose because of
my issues.

I have a very hard time climbing stairs because of my arthritis and fibromyalgia.  Fortunately, our house only has three steps at the front porch and at the carport.  Our washer and dryer is in the basement, but my wonderful husband does the laundry and brings it upstairs for me to put away.

We have a two story home so we go upstairs to the bedrooms.  The laundry is in the basement.

I do not have any health issues or knee problems, so for now this house suits us fine.

It is a different story for the times when my parents visit as the stairs then are quite a problem for 80+ year old people.

I have about 14 steps up to my upper level and about 10 steps down to the basement. So I probably do a lot of stairs per day.

So far they don't bother me. We'll see about that in the years to come.

I still take the stairs instead of elevators when I'm in a building just for the exercise.

I go up and down stairs all day and it's one step at a time, but I appreciate the fact I can still do it at 76 and will keep it up as long as I can.

There is no way to get in my house without stairs, but the largest set of stairs come up from the garage (14 steps), which i go up and down to get into my car.

Only have a few steps at the porch and they are painful most of the time.  A place with even more steps is def not in my future....

My intentions are to do my basement steps at least 3 times a day and preferably 5 times a day but I miss it alot and sometimes don't even do them once a day.

Now I have just 4 steps into our single level house.  When we lived in multilevel houses, I got more exercise going up and down.  I miss that form of exercise.

My family has almost 20 steps on the staircase, but maybe for the next house I would consider the ranch style. I've seen my family uncles/aunts have issues with stairs in their own homes and I worry about mobility in the future too.

We live in a two story house and when my children were young, they would take those stairs two at a time.  At 69, I can still go up and down relatively easy.  Sometimes I feel some twinges in my legs and knees, but I actually go up and down the stairs several times at once when I am looking for a good workout.  It doesn't take long for that type of exercise to get my heart pumping!  I need to do it more often.

I live in a townhouse apartment. There are 14 steps on the stairs.  I go up and down them at least a dozen times a day, sometimes with pain, but most times without.
I have arthritis in both knees, and I had moved my computer downstairs so I wouldn't have to climb the stairs so often.
I moved it back upstairs after about 3 months. I found that not climbing the stairs every day was making the arthritis worse.

We only have a few steps to get in and out of the house, but they don't bother my knees.  My parents have issues with them when they visit, though.

We only have a few steps, and I would not mind a lot of steps.

I only have one flight of stairs between the first and second floors in my home but I go up and down them all day long without experiencing any difficulty or pain. I am sorry to hear you have health issues that make stairs difficult for you.
