How did you feel mentally when you first realized you would need
to use a walking cane daily or as needed based for pain?
A family member purchased a cane for me after I had been complaining of falling at
times and have so much pain. My cane does help a great deal, but mentally it does make
Me realize that I am slowing down due to health problems and I cannot keep up with some
Folks. It is what it is though.

I can certainly imagine what you mean. I recall when I was in my teens watching my dad potter around the house. I remember noting to myself that he was becoming slower and it made me a little sad. I watched him bend over to pick something up and his breath was heavy and he had slight trouble getting back up again. Now I am getting on a bit and I also have trouble getting up off the floor.

I know how you feel. I don't need a cane, but things are harder as we age. No matter how sad, upsrt, or depressed I get, I remember some words from a song I heard, thank goodness you are on the 'right' side of the grass. Feel better soon!

Yep - I am 61 and I am having a very hard time getting around and even a cane doesn't seem like it helps all that much but it ticks me off lol to be in this shape. But as you said - it is what it is and we deal with what we are dealt. Best of luck to you and me both.

Although i have never used a walking cane..
I can tell you my grandmother used one of these... She fought for many many years
not to use it.. because she didn't want to feel like she was dependant on it and have to use
it to walk on a regular basis.. as she aged.. she started getting excausted and needed it..
She used a cane but it also wore her out to use.. so she started using the walkers where you can push& sit on
or the little carts where she can ride in.. :)

Well who ever said getting old we should be enjoying our golden year did no what they were talking about. So far I am 72 and have not had to use a cane yet, but I do know in the years to come I will have too. Getting old sucks.

My brother is 71 and he has to use a cane. He was reluctant at first, but realizes it helps. He's bought into the "old" mentality though. He gets it from our mom who was "old" as long as I can remember, even in her 40's. I refuse to buy into that destructive kind of thinking.
