I have a friend who was doing some manual labor without a shirt and he cooked himself. He's well done.
Do you have any tips or tricks for dealing with the symptoms that go along with sunburn?
I was advised to put vinegar on his skin. I tried that but he's still waiting for something more effective.
I was also told that he should lay down in a tub of cool water to release some of the heat. He tried that but he was shivering.
Then I gave him some Ibuprofin so he could sleep.
Any other ideas or suggestions?

Years ago when my sister was young she had a bad sunburn and our neighbor, who was a nurse, told my mom to apply milk compress. It did take the sting away, hope it helps.

I and my brother's years ago had really bad sunburns and tried Preperation H cream. And in one day pain and burn gone.

put some tea bags in tub..the tannin in the tea will draw out the burn...i have used this and it works....i have also heard that you can put milk in the water

Vinegar. Yes it may not smell good but rub it on the burned area and it will take the burning away.

Vinegar and aloe are what I typically use... Actually the aloe is in the sunburn cream I use, but you can also just break off the aloe leaves and squeeze the juice / sap out of the leaf.

Aloe Vera. It is the best thing for sunburn. Either the gel from the plant leaf or store bought aloe vera jelly. You can wrap the burn with gauze after applying. It really works. It even helps other burns. BMaston12

I highly recommend Aloe Vera. The gel inside the plant is amazing for many skin conditions, and most effective for sun burn.
My daughter got a sunburn this year, and thank God I have Aloe Vera plants, because after five minutes of applying it, her pain went away.

I heard several votes for aloe. I concur. I've also known people who swear by using vinegar.
I've never had a bad burn, so I can't speak from personal experience. I constantly caution people about being out in the sun for extended periods with no protection. It's called common sense. :silly:
The idea of using ibuprofen for the pain was good also.
Remember "Time Heals All Wounds." That includes sunburn.
ADDENDUM:The vinegar should be apple cider vinegar.

The sun has gotten brutal with the pollution of the earth.I hate it now.You really have to be careful staying out of it,wearing a hat and using screen.
To anyone that has gone thru it i would suggest you learn from this NOT to let it happen again and use precautions if you have to be in it.
To show how tuff UR isnt worth the pain!!

Yes, aloe gel is your best bet. I use it and have seen it do amazing things. It's soothing and very healing. I never heard of vinegar for sunburns, but apple cider vinegar is good for an itchy scalp and dermatitis. Vinegar is an antiseptic. >:( :)

Definitely aloe. We have a plant at the front of the house just for that since we tend to be outside a lot.

Aloe Vera sunburn relief lotion/cream works like a champ and rehyradting helps a bunch as well.

there are serious warnings about ibuprofen!!
Noxema always cooled me down. there are other cooling creams with aloe.
