Educational costs are through the roof. My daughter graduated as valedictorian and has had about ninety percent of her tuition taken care of in scholarships.  We are able to cover the rest. My son goes to a private high school that costs over fourteen thousand dollars a year-no tuition assistance there. We have always made their education a priority and the public schools in Colorado (after elementary school) are horrible so we pay through the nose for them to have the best education available. We are definitely the poorest family at both schools but still make too much to get any assistance. Assistance is not based on debt ratios-only income levels so we are somewhat shot when it comes to getting any help.  It kind of kills me that we still have to pay a public school tax even though we are paying for private school.

My kids have already graduated from college but my younger daughter just had a baby and she and her husband are already saving $400 a month towards the baby's college expenses. I am also saving another $100 a month for the baby's college. It is a good idea to get in the habit of saving for that right off the bat so you don't get stuck with huge loans once the child does go to college.
