Title: Surviving in the wild
Post by: articx on April 19, 2016, 08:42:14 am
Do you watch survival shows like Survivorman, Dual Survival, Alone, or Dirty Rotten Survival? Have you ever done a survival challenge (not on TV), or are you willing to do one with an expert?

I watch a lot of survival type shows.  Not necessarily the ones you listed but I love all the shows about life in Alaska.   I often think now if these shows were around when I was young I might have done one.   Some of the information you get from those shows are, in my opinion, is great education.

I watched the show of living in Alaska wilderness.  It's amazing and how the people survive the harsh winter.

My father in law loves these type of shows so I've seen a few. When we go camping with him it's an educational wilderness experience. The shows can be very educational and provide insight if you ever find yourself in the wild needing to survive. I always know, you need to make a fire, create a way to have clean water, create a shelter to harbor you from the elements and animals, and then hunt for food.

I watch the survivor shows when I can.  Naked & Afraid as well.   I stopped watching Survivorman because he always makes noises when he eats... it just got too annoying, my pet peeve lol.

I like Alone.  I liked the guy who won, he was a true survivor, not just someone trying to wait it out.

I enjoy watching these type of shows and learning things from them. May want to try something small but not some big adventure.

I have seen the previews for a few survival shows but have not watched any of them.  A survival challenge is not something I am interested in doing.  Just being able to survive in this world without those type of survival challenges is enough for me.   ;)

I like the dual survivors show. Especially that minimalist guy from Arizona. Those guys are funny and sometimes they always have a disagreement. Often times they eat some good and some not so appetizing type of food. Grosses me when they eat snakes.

This remind me the movie Cast away, I can't imagine if people without any technology and need to survived in the wild.

I just love survival shows, particularly Dual Survival, Alone and Naked and Afraid. I know there is a new season of Alone which I am currently recording. I have watched the pre-show on how they train and select the Survivalist. I was amazed at the techniques I saw for making a tee-pee, making a fish catching basket, building a fire which had it's own canopy to prevent rain from putting the fire out. Also I was intrigued how they made themselves sandals on Naked and Afraid to protect their feet. I had no idea of such things as lichen growing on one side of the tree only. It's just fascinating to watch. I'm afraid I'm an armchair enthusiast only though and could never attempt such a thing myself.

I Love these shows! And watch them all, some I watch every year. I have never done a challenge, not sure Id want to, but I feel if I was ever stranded that I might be ok for awhile using the things Ive learned
