Title: insect bites
Post by: Gerianne on July 06, 2016, 07:05:39 am
can be dangerous. I get bit by surprise sometimes.
Swelling and redness follows.
It takes a couple weeks to heal. [need a bit of patience]
I was without neem oil.
insects and bugs do not like neem oil.
I am going to make sure I never run out of it again.
One neighbor told me a story that she had an insect bite and the larvae were in her knee....ouch.

I have never heard of neem oil, where do you get it? My grandmother used to put snuff on our bee stings or bites when I was a child.

Apply honey to a bug bite to sooth the skin. Because honey is a natural antibiotic, it can also help prevent infections.

Apply a blend of essential oils of eucalyptus, winter green and peppermint or tea tree oil to bites every 2 to 3 hours to relieve itching and aid healing.

The above quote was taken from the internet. Hope it can help someone.

I agree, honey will do the trick, best to use raw honey.  Also, the combination of essential oils works wonders but I found that Tea Tree oil also works great and that way you don't have to make the combination/blend of different oils.  Tea Tree oil is great for all kinds of issues.

I found this post interesting due to the essential oils references.  It seems essential oils are some of the best products out there.  I don't know enough about them.
But, this post shows essential oil for bug bites.  I've also heard of essential oils helping with cancer treatment.
Something to look into much deeper.....

I remember one year my youngest was out in a kiddie pool.  Her back got eaten up so bad... she looked like she had been beaten.  The skeeters were having a meal off of her.  I've never heard of neem either.  I'm going to look into it.  I hate having to use off (it's so darn strong) but it works so when necessary.  My mother's avon skin so soft adage never worked well for me and my kids.  Thank you for the product hook up!

You have to remember that essential oils don't have to go through nearly the amount of product testing that other chemicals must go through. For example, if you read / hear that there are no side-effects for an all-natural substance, it should be read that no side-effects have been ascribed to the chemical as of yet but doesn't preclude the possibility that the chemical elicits no side-effects. Similarly, by not testing the natural products as completely, there is no way to determine a product's efficacy (whether it works as described) nor ways to compare it with other, similar products (eg which is more effective at keeping bugs away: tea tree oil, essential oil blend, DEET sprays (like Off)). Now this is not to say that the natural products never work or live up to the hype, but rather that there may not be enough scientific investigations to determine how good a natural product is. I am glad that some places are doing more to actually put rigorous study into some of these alternative treatments / preventatives, like the Mayo Clinic's department of Complimentary and Alternative Medicine.

You've got to avoid them mosquitos too.  With their west nile/zika virus that they carry.

It seems this year insects are really bad.  I have been getting bites every day and I think I will try some of these oils and see what happens.

I heard of neem oil for acne, but didn't know you can use it as a insect repellent, thanks...Also for insect bites, you can use witch hazel to soothe the itching and swelling.

It's the reason why I use insect repellents during the summer or when I go camping, especially, in areas with lots of mosquitoes. I recommend getting any insect repellents from Johnson & Johnson or any trusted brand.

I'm a mosquito magnate when I go outside.  It's getting ridiculous.  I have to wear long sleeves and pants to work in the garden.  I have tried the essential oil repellents, but they don't work for me.  I have to use the nasty chemical bug sprays.  I had a tick latch onto my ear a few days ago, and it is just now healing up.  A big chunk of ear came out when my husband pulled it out for me.  I am going to try the honey solution for my next bite!

Neem oil is good; however, there are other ways to deal with insect and mosquito bites as well.

Tea tree essential oil works well for me after I've been bitten.  Also, Avon's Skin So Soft prevents being bitten if you remember to apply if before the little buggers get you.

I dislike mosquitoes but they really like me.  They leave big red welts on me.  I seem to be more sensitive than many people to them.  If I am out and about in the evening and they start biting, I am one of the first people to go inside.  Can't stand them!  The only thing I hate equally are biting flies.  By the way, I have never heard of neem oil.  I'm going to do an internet search and find out more about it.
