why do they tell you that you need a flu shot when after you get it you get the flu this is mind boggling to me i just hope this flu is gone y the 28th when we leave on our trip
-
I understand your point and I know a lot of folks that it happens to. I was told by a physician that you may have gotten a different strain of the flu than for the one you got a shot. I'm not sure but it made sense. There are many different varieties of the flu. Hope you're better soon.
-
I know some who get the flu after getting the shot and some who do not. I choose not to get the flu shot. I take my chances.

You have to also remember how vaccines work... They purposefully trigger your immune system so that it recognizes the actual flu when you contract it. Thus you may very well feel all of the symptoms of the actual flu, only it won't last nearly as long as you would having gotten the full-blow flu. So you may get a fever, runny nose, cough etc. but you will get over it rather quickly.

I am hearing nothing but bad things about the flu shot
-
I have gotten a flu shot every year for the past 10 or 12 years. I have had the flu MAYBE 3 times in that stretch. I get colds or have allergy symptoms every year, but I am able to work through those and they are not of the sick in bed/stay at home severity.
It may not be the flu shot that has kept me relatively flu free, but I'm going to keep getting it annually. I know that there are mixed opinions on that and I don't criticize ANYONE who has the opposite mindset. We each have our own experiences.
-
1 or 2 times I got the shot I got the flu
haven't had the flu shot in years and fortunately have been fine. Hope the trend continues. :turkey: :peace:

We get our flu shots every year. Hubby is a sub at the schools and the kids are always catching it and bringing it too school, and since we both volunteer at a charity, a lot of the people who come can not afford nor seem t want one. So i say it is better to be safe then sorry. It is also a must for me with my immune system messed up with the Graves disease.

I have not had the flu shot ever because I have heard it can have side effects. I had the stomach flu once like 6 years ago.
-
Getting a mild flu is after the shot is your body's way of building up immunity. I hope you feel better.
-
I have gotten a flu shot every year except not yet
-
I've had the flu shot one time - and ended up with a strain of a flu. My youngest has had the flu shot and within days she ended up in the ER dehydrated and sick for a week. I think I'll pass on the flu shot from now on and rely on good sanitation and personal hygiene.
-
I have had a flu shot every year for decades and never had any reaction to it or had the flu since I started getting shots. I think I will keep doing it.
-
I dont get a shot, I had a reaction a couple years ago. My arm was sore for 6 months, felt like someone slugged me as hard as they could, they said now and again it happens but not often
-
I got a flu shot a few years ago and I felt a burning sensation that went down my arm and into my hand. It lasted for hours. I've been hesitant to get another one ever since.
-
I take vitamins esp vit c so never really get flu
-
I do not get the flu shot and have been fortunate to have not gotten the flu
-
It's a 50/50 chance you'll get the flu if you get the shot.
-
I've only had the flu once in my life. I do not get flu shots. I don't know what the heck they'd be injecting in my body. Don't trust it.
-
I've gotten the flu shot twice in my life & both times I have gotten sick from it. So now I hold off getting it; probably will start getting them when I get to the older age it is recommended.
I have a friend whose arm hurts her after the shot similar to rghvac69 symptoms.
My elderly father gets them yearly, and he has had no reaction from them.

Some patients have serious side effects from flu shots, including having the flu itself. Each patient is different. It is up to you: Flu shot or not. It is a very personal decision.
-
That is why I don't get flu shots. Every time I get one, I always get the flu. I have never ever had it when I didn't get one.

I hate getting a flu shot. My arm is always sore, especially when you get a nurse who does not really know how to inject you so, you feel the needle all the way through until she actually yanks it out. My doctor forces me to get it (though she isn't the one paying for it). The main philosophy is the flu shot doesn't prevent one from getting the flu it lessens the strength of the flu when you get it. I guess that means you suffer a shorter amount of time when you get it. In my case I suffer with really bad allergies which affect me in the same way as a cold (i.e. runny nose, cough, drainage) without the sore throat and my doctor fears without a flu shot my allergy attack will turn into pneumonia. So I guess the purpose of a flu shot is not to prevent it from happening, but to weaken it when it does happen.

My husband takes the flu shot every year and comes down with the flu. I never take the shot and I can't tell you when the last time I had the flu.

I am not a believer in flu shots. I believe that injecting yourself with a strain of the virus so that you build up immunity often times causes you to be sick for a day. If/when I get the flu it generally lasts for three days. So you are increasing your chance of getting a one day flu for the chance of not getting the flu versus not getting sick for a day and possibly not getting the flu at all. My wife has gotten the flus shot every year for the last twelve and still managed to get the flu for four of those years plus was out two days from reactions to the flu shot in two other years. I have not gotten the flu shot at all during the same period and have only gotten the flu three times. I think it is a gimmick put on by the insurance companies and medical industry. I like my odds better and will abstain from getting the flu shot.
-
I took the flu shot once but I actually got the flu after that. So I no longer take the flu shot. No flu since :)
-
This happens when you have a weakened immune system, on the verge of illness; but, remember this, the flushot is stressful/fighting/reacting to the flu that you were about to catch because of (verge of illness, you got a reaction) that one flu could have been devastating to you.
-
I always get the flu shot. I never had any reactions and didn't get the flu.
-
I did not get the flu shot last year and ended up getting the flu. I got the shot this year and keeping my fingers crossed that I do not get it...
-
I do not believe in flu shots. Usually wash hands really clean before I eat anything. I also stay away from restaurants and pot lucks at church functions. Trust what I eat and who's preparing the food.
-
Not sure why anybody would get sick after, but it happens!
-
I have gotten the flu shot every year for years, I got sick the first time but never after that, it has been good to me. Before the shot I got the flu once about 20 years ago, and I do not wish the symptoms on anyone, not even my worse enemy, it is awful, so I take my chances with the shot. And even if I get sick it might not be the full strength of it.
-
They inject the virus into you and I do not get them anymore. Every time I got the shot I would get the flu, it was horrible! I try to minimize my visits to the doctors and heal myself. Hope you feel better. :)
