Title: Vandalism
Post by: ktheodos on February 04, 2017, 09:31:17 am
Has anyone been a victim of vandalism and had luck with having their loss property recovered?

I have not personally been a victim of vandalism.  Many years ago, though, one of our kids went with some neighborhood kids to a farm.  They decided to drive the old beat up pickup on the farm yard.  They ended up putting a dent in the pickup.

No charges were pressed, but we had our child do "community service" to make amends/pay restitution.

I wish I could say that my things were recovered, however, that was not the case.  I've had jewelry and coins stolen from my apartment years ago and never got anything back.  Years later, I DID see the gold watch that was given to me by my parents for High School graduation for sale by an "antique dealer" on eBay!  I thought I could be wrong but I wasn't.  When I read the "description," it said that "the watch was made for a very small wrist."  It was definitely mine!  Unfortunately, at that point in time, how do you contact the seller and tell them?  They'd think you were trying to BS them.

Yes when we first moved into our house there were two old glass greenhouses in the back of our property. Kids used to chuck rocks through them on the way home from school which was impossible to prevent because everyone in our house was either working or at school themselves. The police caught one kid whose father made him come over and apologize to us, which was very nice, but we had to recoup our losses through insurance payments.

Had a neighbor's kid vandalize my mail box.  I knew who done it but could not prove it at the time.  I just fixed it and went on.

I have had my car scratched on the door by an irritated neighbor. Could not prove it, but the smirk on their face was enough to convince me.

Some people never grow up.

I had a break in many years ago when I was living in an apartment, unfortunately none of my things were recovered; once I became a home owner  I have always had an alarm system, but with these crooks  today I think if they want to get in  they will probably still find a way but at least I try to slow them down.

I had my house in 1980 broke into robbed and to cover their tracks tossed a match to it. I came home to the place on fire in a snow storm as i drove up my drive way it looked like fog inside. Only good thing was who ever did it closed the door behind them and it put it self out from lack of  oxygen.  Posted a 1000.00 reward for information and never got anything.

I've had my car keyed more than once...apparently I bought the car from someone that had made a LOT of enemies..and they didn't know the car wasn't theirs anymore.  Never found out who it was that keyed the car but really was annoying.

Last year someone got in my car and stole some change I had in the cup holder.  They trashed the glove compartment and left everything thrown everywhere.  I had about $15 or more taken.  This happened while parked under my patio and I had the lights on in the garage and in the house too.  They left the car door ajar as not to make noise when closing it.  I went to the police and they said I was the third person to report a theft the night before.  They finally caught them.  I am so glad.  People would rather steal from others than get out and work for what they want.  Hope everyone has a good day and may God bless each of you and keep you safe. :(

I'm not sure.  There was a time when I was in a bad marriage and things started to disappear.  We had a scag lawn mower and it was on the side of the house.  One day I thought I'd check it out so I could mow the lawn myself since it wasn't getting done.... the machine was gone.  Just vanished.  I don't know if my then husband sold it or if  was picked up.  I never found out.  I never cared to even ask... so many things then were just vanishing.  Like my kitchen aid mixer.  Oh now that hurt.

punishment these days is either too lenient or too extreme.
when I grew up, our parents had the wisdom to know what punishment would fit.

Yes I have, I was extremely sad, even though I have insurance.

Never been vandalized, but our home was burglarized some years ago.  Police came and took statements, some photos, and we never heard back from them again.  Guess they couldn't do anything without photographic/video evidence :(

Had my car broken into, nothing was taken though.  Glove compartment was open & everything on the floor of the car.  A bag of fabric softener sheets (for the laundromat) was opened and that was tossed on the back seat.  I think someone mistook the car for someone else's.

Years ago I was at my bf's apartment for a short time.  I left my backpack (with wallet)  in my front seat because I wasn't there long.  The lock on my passenger door wasn't working too well and apparently some boys were able to open the door and took it.  It was a really nice leather backpack.  I actually got it back.  They had thrown it somewhere and it was damaged but I cleaned it up.  I'm pretty sure they didn't get a lot of money since I usually don't carry a lot of money with me.

How did they know it was the same car?  There are a few vehicles exactly like mine in the county I live in.

My home was broken into years ago and the Xbox and candy was taken.  The police lifted finger prints said it was kids but nothing never came of it.  I had  $300 in an envelope on the dresser and they didn't take that busy getting toys I guess.

Had a car keyed in our driveway and knew who did but could not prove it.  Filed a police report and went to the girls house to inform her parents but of course nothing was done about.  Girls quit being friends and this was  her way to back at my kid

No, I have never been completely vandalized.  I say that because someone tried to open the door on my car but they weren't able to pop the lock on the door.

Someone got into my car once, didn't take anything but the individual sat in my car and smoked.
